To reduce the number of showers I have each week

Let's be honest here. During lockdown probably most of us that worked from home rolled out of bed to their laptop and started the work day (in pjs)

I believe my need for showers daily took a nose dive. Don't get me wrong I went old school and did a daily clean with a flannel and yes still brush my teeth twice a day. I was showering twice a week.

Now back into the swing of things, working face to face (twice a week) I find my routine has stayed the same and the need for daily showers has gone. Obviously if I go work out I will do but I'm talking daily no.

What's other people's experience? Has everyone resumed normal life or are there people out there like me who are now content doing a flannel wash instead of a daily shower????

I am waiting for the gross comments but honestly I don't feel worse for it and my water bill has dropped!

I shower every other day unless it's hot. It's improved my eczema compared to when I showered daily.

stayathomer · 07/07/2022 19:10

I work ft in a shop and If I have a particularly sweaty night I shower, otherwise 3 to 5 times a week. I think each person knows themselves how often they need them, I’ve done the flannel wash thing too and it’s done the job. I wouldn’t think you’re disgusting if you’re washing with one!

I shower about once a week, or if I've got particularly sweaty/dirty in-between which is usually due to gardening.

I flannel wash other days.

My hair needs washing a lot less too: shampoo about once every 3 weeks and water wash when I shower in-between.

No one's commented that I smell. I work with teenagers and they'd be pretty brutal if I (or anyone) did

Im not sure teenagers area good judge of this, they normally smell

And post pandemic, I would wager lots of peoples sense of smell has been impacted to some degree, most people I know seem to have some hangover from this.

easyday · 07/07/2022 19:12

I cut down to every other day during lockdown. Couldn't go longer than that without feeling really grungy. Nowadays might miss the odd day (usually a Sunday) but otherwise it's daily.
I'm really busy tomorrow so I'm having a shower tonight so I can skip it in the morning.

00100001 · 07/07/2022 19:14

It's so weird how the "1+ a day otherwise it's grim folk," are so adamant that they absolutely know how your body works and how anything else is wrong.

I completely understand why some people feel the need to shower twice a day, just as I completely understand why some people only need 1-2 a week.

As long as you aren't smelly, it's down to the individual!

Correlation · 07/07/2022 19:14

I thought flannel washes were for the days when people only had a bath in the house? So one full bath a week and flannel washes in between. I agree with PP that flannel washes are a faff and just make a mess - showers are just much easier. What if you turned the shower off in between rinses?

BonnyandPoppy · 07/07/2022 19:14

I shower two or three times a week as flannel wash the other days. I get bad dandruff if I wash my hair everyday

KateMcCallister · 07/07/2022 19:14

If I'm not leaving the house I don't shower, our water bills are high enough as it is and I don't smell from sitting in front of a laptop all day.

This is MN though and you'll be told you're disgusting.

00100001 · 07/07/2022 19:15

Lots of people are finding electricity prices so high, that actually a family of four halving their shower bill, by cutting down to every other day, instead of daily is a necessity!

Augend23 · 07/07/2022 19:17

I shower about every other day, unless it's been very hot, or I have done two days in a row of vigorous exercise.

HangOnToYourself · 07/07/2022 19:17

I'm an every other day kind of person with showers but will go longer if I'm not seeing anyone. Maybe its grim but it honestly doesn't bother me and its stops my eczema flaring up

The only place I hear about people doing a 'flannel wash' is MN.

Unless you've got mobility issues, surely it's quicker, easier and less of a faff to just hop in the shower?

AYearOfCushions · 07/07/2022 19:18

Two proper showers a week with a good scrub and hair wash. The rest are 60 second showers at most so quicker than a flannel wash.
In the winter I can skip a day here and there but not in the summer!

InChocolateWeTrust · 07/07/2022 19:18

I shower when I actually need to.

I often just dunk in my kids bath water after them at bedtime.

During lockdown I followed the same routine when wfh. Clothes a bit more casual, but I'd never work in PJs. So no change. Daily shower takes no time. Far easier than faffing about with a flannel.

Pumpkin314 · 07/07/2022 19:20

Bemused that anyone thinks people who they shower everyday are lying. A hot shower is a pleasure to me, not a chore. I need one to wake me up and feel human in the morning. A flannel wash sounds like far more of a faff. The only time I don't shower everyday is when camping, and even then I shower everyday if the shower blocks are nice and clean and warm, just every other day if they're more of a cold spider-filled shed!

gottaloveascamhun · 07/07/2022 19:20

2 x showers a day, 5 mins each.

liveforsummer · 07/07/2022 19:20

Some people start to smell a couple of hours after a shower and others could go days. I can definitely get away with every other day no problem, maybe longer as I rarely sweat, am eternally cold but I'd want my bum crack washed more than twice a week 😆.

Tabbouleh · 07/07/2022 19:20

The people who think other people don't shower daily and are lying are leaving out the many of us who come from a different cultural background or from hot countries. Where it is considered grim to not shower daily.

DH definitely smells if he doesn't shower daily and so does DS. They take the Tube.

LetMeInYourWindow · 07/07/2022 19:21

Smelling other people, especially when you have to touch them, is pretty grim.

Swabbing someone’s skin and seeing brown appear on the once white swab is also grim. These could be well dressed, fully made up women as much as scruffy unkempt men, but they obviously aren’t clean.

User0ne · 07/07/2022 19:21

@bellac11

They're poor judges of when they smell

It's not the same thing

Tiredmum100 · 07/07/2022 19:22

I shower twice a day. Once in the morning, before work, then when I get home. I'm a nurse and I just don't feel clean if I don't shower after work. On my days off I shower in the morning, unless I've been out in the garden or its been a hot day. I wash my hair every day too or it just doesn't go right.

WinterMusings · 07/07/2022 19:22

Lov · 07/07/2022 19:08

You would think as this is anonymous people would be honest 🤔

People just can't accept that others are different, not lying!!

I guess if you're showing before going to the office (or on public transport/Drs/shops/visiting people) then however often you do/don't shower only affects those in your own home. So unless they're avoiding being in the same room, then crack on.

However, I can't understand having a strip/bowl/flannel wash instead. It's not as good & much more messy, so why not just get in the space designed to enable efficient, non messy body cleaning? What's do onerous about having a shower?? (Assuming no disabilities??)

I was just about to say that, what a thing it would be to lie about!!! For what benefit?

I shower everyday because I love it,, want to do that. And also I havent seen anyone being judgemental about those who dont yet those who dont seem to be coming across very defensive for some reason, whats that all about?

Tabbouleh · 07/07/2022 19:24

Why would anyone lie about showering daily on an anon forum? 🤔
