AIBU here 😂. I've been given some birthday money for my 40th and really want to spend it on some house bits that are helpful to my everyday life. I really want to get my life and house into order. Was thinking about a robot vacuum etc. Any other ideas?

Robot vacuum. Got mine on Amazon. It’s little noisey but it pootles around while kids get b’fast and great if have dogs. Collects loads of fluff, more than broom. I don’t use the mop setting tho as but feeble for my grubby lot.
Also slow cooker
chest freezer
lots containers for pasta/rice/pulses so not tons of opened packets spilling out inyo cupboards
nice gin glasses and a drinks trolley are on my list too!
enjoy your shopping!

BadNomad · 04/07/2022 23:48

Similar to a lot of people - robot vacuum (two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs 😅) and an airfryer.

Plus -
Small chest freezer
Robot lawnmower
Automatic litter tray
Motion-activated stick-on nightlights for late night bathroom visits
Ozone machine
Wifi/app-controlled dimmable lightbulbs

This little gem:

No worrying about the temperature of the iron and stressing in case it gets stuck to an item of clothing. You just put your water in the iron, whack it on the highest temperature and whizz through the ironing in no time!

  • Air fryer - cooks things SO much faster than regular oven, and it's healthier overall. Tip: avoid "halogen" ones. The bulbs fizzle out and usually aren't replaceable.
  • Swiss Army Penknife - getting a decent one comes in so handy in so many random situations
  • Google Home speaker - SO helpful! I use it all the time for random on the spot questions, or just to turn stuff on or off that connects to the smart speaker
  • Handheld vacuum cleaner - quick jobs and cleaning around the corners of rooms so much easier with that
  • Automatic liquid dispenser - like handwash or washing up liquid. it comes in super handy and is just kinda neat to have. It's also a really good way to stop you wasting liquids
Happy shopping and happy birthday :)

One of my dogs would chase it, and the other one would be terrified.

Bopahula · 05/07/2022 00:04

Due to this thread, I've now ordered a Eufy RoboVac. I'm naming him Terrence.
hopefully my cats won't be too scared. 😂

I'd highly recommend an iron with a ceramic sole-plate. Totally non-stick.

Do you think I can part exchange for a (not very bright) Labrador?

Haha same situation here 😂

SpangledShambles · 05/07/2022 00:49

Stack of same size plastic storage pots with lids. Chuck away all the old Tupperware

washable duvet

large heavy duty washing machine when you next need to buy- your washable duvet and sheet and cover just go in as is and dry in a few hours. No more changing duvet covers.

stop ironing.

dehumidifyer. Never need a dryer.

lots of kitchen scissors- use for everything.

pets for fun and love!

idiotmagnet · 05/07/2022 00:49

A greyhound. Is a dog, but doesn't do much.

Storage boxes with coloured lids from Lakeland in a variety of sizes to keep nuts, flour, rice, sugar, grains, coffee etc in. They fit perfectly in the cupboard and you can have a mix of sizes depending on how great the volume is that you use eg. pasta is a big box and chia seeds a small one. They all fit together nicely in the cupboard

Door hooks for hanging up ironing, especially loads of school uniform

Extra shelving away from the kitchen to store non perishables so I can bulk buy which saves me time in trips to the shops

Acrylic make up storage boxes designed to organise all the small bits

IKEA storage boxes to organise clothes in drawers

Recycling labels for all the bins to separate different types of waste

Store pillow cases, duvet covers, sheets in one pillow case so the whole set is easy to find

Waterproof sheets from IKEA to protect mattresses

Pillow case protectors to extend life of pillows to prevent staining

Decent feather pillows

Combination duvet that can be buttoned together for winter and taken apart for summer

Tissues, wipes, pens, notepad, spare change, bottled water, towel, umbrella, jumper, dog bowl, dog poo bags, torch, dry snacks, shopping bags, small first aid kit in the car for sorting out the kids / dogs / adults on long journeys

Phone charger and holder in the car at all times

Glass storage pots with plastic clip on lids to make lasagne, fish pie, cottage pie etc and freeze, then put straight into the oven for baking

Harmonypuss · 05/07/2022 05:53

Pressure King Pro electric Pressure cooker and an Air Fryer Oven.

By using these two items and my microwave I've discovered that I don't need the big oven, plus they're cheaper to run!

SummerPuddings · 05/07/2022 05:54

@TicTac80 why do you put your soap in hemp bags?

SummerPuddings · 05/07/2022 06:00

ginswinger · 03/07/2022 23:33

An air purifier-a really big one from Homedics. It makes me house just smell like fresh meadows and not socks
Hand held back massager for undoing knots

If you're considering Audible, you can also check to see if your library offers an audio and e-book service. Ours does which means I can access thousands of books via an app for free. The kids' audio books are tremedous too and gratis. Our local library app is called Libby.

Oooo! Library app is genius 🙏

My Karcher Window Vac

Such a brilliant invention. Love using it. Love very shiny windows with the sun streaming in 🌞

comeondover · 05/07/2022 07:57

@BadNomad what's the ozone machine for?

Bollingerknickers · 05/07/2022 08:14

Can anyone recommend a dehumidifier please? Family of 5, always washing hanging around the house in winter.

Thanks

kazlau · 05/07/2022 08:41

Robot vacuum and a ninja smartlid 15/1. Also, I’ve never seen so many deleted comments. I’m intrigued what on earth they were. It’s hardly a controversial topic.

MaggieMagpie357 · 05/07/2022 08:58

Definitely frozen chopped onions, saves so much time when cooking.

Also freezing slices of lemon/lime/orange etc for drinks garnishes, open freeze on baking tray and bag up to add to gin/water/cocktails etc when needed. I also buy large bags of ice in the summer for £1 from the supermarket

Our extra fridge is mainly used for drinks but is ridiculously handy at Christmas and as an overspill on Big Shop day

Ikea freezer bags and clips for closing packets etc

Couldn’t be without Lakeland waffle tea towels, v absorbent and dries everything quickly with no streaks

Koh cleaner, microfibre cloths and grout brush - great for a multitude of surfaces (even ovens) and lasts for ages, I buy one box a year (family of four plus two pets)

linelgreen · 05/07/2022 08:59

Quooker tap that does sparkling water as well as boiling.

I’ve got a Meaco one. It’s fab. You can get two kinds: refrigerant or desiccant. Desiccant one are for very cold rooms like conservatories. Refrigerant for in your house.

I’ve got a meaco one too. It’s AMAZING. Mine holds 25 litres I think. It will dry clothes in about 12 hours.

Konfetka · 05/07/2022 12:30

Robovac sounds great but does it work with oriental rugs? I'm wary of the fringes being mauled

Needhelp101 · 05/07/2022 12:32

Ice machine! Honestly use it every day. Only takes about 20 minutes to get enough ice, then it gets turned off again to save electricity.
