AIBU here 😂. I've been given some birthday money for my 40th and really want to spend it on some house bits that are helpful to my everyday life. I really want to get my life and house into order. Was thinking about a robot vacuum etc. Any other ideas?

My robovac mop and hoovers

buckeejit · 03/07/2022 22:20

@Sexnotgender I use my kitchenaid micro mostly just for houmous & dressings. Do you quarter e.g, onions & do 1 at a time?

My robovac mop and hoovers

Pressed send too soon. It’s a bagotte. Currently about £150 for the vac with a free mopping set.

TicTac80 · 03/07/2022 22:38

I’ve got a Eufy robovac. Def not one of the super expensive ones! It just does vacuuming though. I set it to run each day downstairs and I tend to empty it at the end of the day (but I could get away with emptying it every 2-3 days). I’ve got 3 cats and one of them is a part Maine Coon (so very very fluffy!)

Dasher789 · 03/07/2022 22:55

Sorry to derail slightly, also interested in robot hoover. Do they no not to go down stairs?

Mulhollandmagoo · 03/07/2022 23:13

An airfryer!

Amazonisaddictive · 03/07/2022 23:29

Loving this thread. Can’t believe I’m putting suggested items in my basket on nisbets at 11.30pm 🙄

ginswinger · 03/07/2022 23:33

An air purifier-a really big one from Homedics. It makes me house just smell like fresh meadows and not socks
Hand held back massager for undoing knots

If you're considering Audible, you can also check to see if your library offers an audio and e-book service. Ours does which means I can access thousands of books via an app for free. The kids' audio books are tremedous too and gratis. Our local library app is called Libby.

Dri buddy
Houseplants
A really soft blanket
A lidded casserole dish...everything that goes in out comes out amazing

girlfriend44 · 03/07/2022 23:37

How do you get in the corners with a Robovac?

Selok · 03/07/2022 23:37

Ninja foodi multicook, I have recently bought ninja health grill too- brilliant purchases so happy with both

tappitytaptap · 03/07/2022 21:37

Really tempted by an air fryer. Tell me what you all do with it?

@tappitytaptap trust me you won't regret! I hardly use the oven now. Frozen/chilled any type of meat, I even made pasta bake; beef stew and dumplings, rice as it had saute, bake, roast functions too! Brilliant, best thing I have

CuriousMama · 03/07/2022 23:52

What's the best airfryer to get?

ofHardey · 03/07/2022 23:58

@ginswinger can you link the air purifier please ? Sounds amazing!

ofHardey · 04/07/2022 00:04

Ooh forgot to add my ideas:

Shark steam mop plus buy extra pads
E cloths for streak free cleaning
Method glass cleaner to use with the e cloths
Led energy saver bulbs in all lamps.
A matching set of cups for guests
Guest cutlery (put away otherwise)
A different coloured set of towels for each member of the family

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 04/07/2022 00:44

I JUST bought a cheapy mandoline thing from Ikea - it was £3. Revolutionised salads. I'm not a fan of chunky veg (yes I'm a fusspot) and this slices them so fine it's great.

Silk pillowcase - especially if you're prone to headaches. The coolness is amazing, although I originally actually bought it for my hair and skin.

If you like iced coffee - a fridge jug and a strainer. Cost about a tenner all in and now I can have my preferred coffee any time of the day. Oh - also treat yourself to the Starbucks pack of 5 travel cups with straws. They're fab, massive, and the plastic straws are way better than paper, metal or silicone.

Yes I cut them into 1/2 or 1/4 depending how big they are.

I’m vegetarian and use a lot of vegetables and find it really time consuming to do carrots/celery/onion really finely as a base for recipes. Do it all in my little chopper in 2 minutes.

Dehumidifier. There are four adults in my house and in the winter there is always wet washing hanging around. The dehumidifier cuts drying time right down and it is much, much cheaper than putting on the tumble dryer.

Totally agree with this. Absolute game changer.

A fridge just for drinks. I don’t necessarily mean alcoholic drinks but it could be. We have lots of visitors and neighbours who drop in spontaneously (live in the country) and it would be so great, especially in hot weather, to not have to have bottles of fizzy water or cans of beer or bottles of white wine clogging up the main fridge.

I have one, it is set at a colder temperature than the main fridge.

It started by accident, I had a small 'beer fridge' when I lived in hospital accommodation but I found it so useful I kept it and eventually replaced it.

It sits in the living room.

If you cook and depending on how much you have to spend a food processor with a really good motor and lots of accessories.

How do you make best use of your food processor? I bought one and it is still in its box. I have been busy at work. Toying with sending it back.

@ofHardey sure!

Yes to Robovac!!! Had mine for 3 years. I'm evangelical about it. At least 5 of my friends have bought on the strength of my recommendation.

They deal with drops, level changes and steps. The thing that trips them up can be cables.

I bought the cheapest, entry level Eufy on an Amazon Prime special day thingy. I think it was £125 ? ish. Not super cheap but coming down to a hoovered kitchen ( I set at night ) is top. Bung it in the bedrooms and other rooms during the day.

Also

enough t towels

socktopus

'Tile' finder for my keys

Key safe outside the house

Battery powered light that comes on over my bins.

Glass boxes with lids for leftovers

plastic optic spouts on the oils by my cooker

Stash of Birthday Cards esp cheap kids ones

A big ole heavy office size sticky tape dispenser

a ball of elastic bands

a dog poo bag roll holder on a carabineri clip that has a house key on it,

More than one pair of scissors

Punching holes in loyalty cards and putting them on a big split ring .I know I should just go digital with them but haven't got round to it.

Tape measure in my hand bag

Slow cooker

First aid box under the sink - plasters, antiseptic, arnica etc

Basically what @AtomicBlondeRose said.

Bleedinghearts · 04/07/2022 13:22

Not unreasonable! Get the best one you can afford! I have an Ultenic t10 robot vac and mop, best purchase ever. After that I love the ninja dual 400, really quick especially doing dinners for the children. Saves on electricity as well.

LexCake · 04/07/2022 18:03
  1. loads of plastic and metal clips to close half used packets of food (e.g. raisins).
  2. a thing for attaching phone to dashboard to use google maps to navigate.
  3. plastic towel clips from Lakeland which attach to heated towel rail (and I’ve written each persons initial on them to avoid towel confusion)
