To wonder what we do now that will be frowned upon in 30-40 years time

This video is a prime example of how attitudes change. It seems we go just go from stupid to stupid all the time.

digg.com/video/this-1967-british-news-report-that-interviewed-drunk-drivers-before-it-became-illegal-is-bonkers

Another example is passive smoking. Obviously stupid and horrible to think we just smoked freely inside, thinking it was fine to breathe in smoke.

Fossil fueled cars will likely be the next as will idling cars outside of schools but I wonder what else we'll be scratching our heads over in future.

Children never seeing their Dads wearing a tie.

is that supposed to be a bad thing? 🤔

TheKeatingFive · 01/07/2022 23:46

Girls wearing trousers in school.

Also this. Seriously?😵

Seen several comments about surrogacy.. am I missing the point? What’s wrong with surrogacy?

Clearly there isn't one point of view to which you MUST subscribe on surrogacy but the issues with why some (including me) are deeply suspicious of moves to normalise /expand surrogacy and particularly any kind of paid surrogacy are here.

MyOwnView · 02/07/2022 01:09

Perhaps the NHS will go in a few years.
The use of the huge internet ‘Ariel’s’ near houses, nurseries and schools will be a safeguarding problem.

We may no longer have free roaming cats. New Zealand wants domestic cats to cease by 2050, various councils in Australia have brought in 12 or 24 hour curfews because of the damage they cause to wildlife. I couldn't bear having a cat that wasn't allowed outside, it would be a sad existence.

Who in NZ wants domestic cats to cease by 2050? First I've heard of it.

TomPinch · 02/07/2022 05:42

I'm in NZ. There isn't a plan to ban cats by 2050. There is a plan to eradicate non-native predators such as stoats and weasels (and probably long yellow ferrets with guns too). Cats are more than usually popular here but there are places where they're banned and a lot of people do say that they should be got rid of as they prey on native birds.

MercurysMeteor · 02/07/2022 07:03

Though provoking thread, thanks op, here are mine…
-drinking the milk of another animal.
-current levels of sugar and ultra processed food consumption, particularly in children.
-piercing of children under age 16.
-80+ yr olds driving without objective medical/driving retest.
-smoking at all
-many children going to school/home by car for a walkable distance
-optional use of a helmet while riding a bike
-sending humans physically into a war zone… (replaced by drones/robotics/targeteering from a distance).

onlythreenow · 02/07/2022 08:29

@TomPinch - thanks. I'm in NZ too and was wondering if I had missed some major announcement about cats!! Actually, I knew I hadn't, but was wondering where the poster had got their facts from. I believe cat ownership in NZ is higher than many other countries, there is no way cat owners would allow them to be banned.

I'm not vegan although used to work in the vegan food sector. I could see that if I went vegan, I would want to make other changes too. I wouldn't be happy to just buy falafels from sainsburys. I would want the whole business to support similar ethics if they were going to get my money. I can see the rise in vegan owned businesses, which makes sense. If you are vegan and buy the kfc vegan burger you are still contributing towards animal cruelty.

We are hopeful that one of our high streets in Bristol will become the first vegan high street. I celebrate this more as a triumph for small businesses but if this becomes popular I see supermarkets piggy backing (excuse the pun) and setting up Tesco V or Morrisons Vida or some shit to infiltrate these spaces.
I am hopeful that the rise of black owned and female owned businesses will continue. The cost of living will impact this though. I'd love to support locally owned, small businesses but I will struggle to afford to in the future.

Grammar schools. Let them go.
There is excessive and enduring pressure on these children and so many counsellors involved.
Some parents don’t tell the school their child is having long term counselling.
If Comprehensive Schools were in practice for all, then the GB would be great again.

Not all areas have Grammar schools and children are then bused into other areas.
The pressure on these children is cruel. Some parents will say, not my child, they love their Grammar School. Well they’d do just as well in local comps. I do hope they ban these establishments. Local schools have so much to offer if headships are capable and staff are committed.

The country would save a fortune closing these unhealthy greenhouse education establishments.

optional use of a helmet while riding a bike

If I was going to bet on anything changing, it would be this. It blows my mind that this is the case.

Veganism - hopefully future generations will take note of how utterly UNhealthy it is and that it is only pushed so much because the profit margins are huge

Denying the existence of racism, commenting on ‘forrin looking suspicious man spotted driving round in a van’ etc

Hopefully the weird hatred some people have for the working class will have gone by then. It's so tightly ingrained in so many people that they can write comments like the one above, in which the imaginary racist can't speak properly, that the people doing it can't even see how disgusting they are being

Fraaahnces · 03/07/2022 07:01

Gourmet wankery. I think food will be so expensive and hard to come by, that nobody’s going to have time for Artisinal coffees poured by superstar baristas.

Popcorn77 · 03/07/2022 08:05

Girls wearing trousers in school??? - explain?

Fraaahnces · 03/07/2022 08:06

I also fear that people are becoming more and more fundamentalist… When people like Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow and Trump are treated like spiritual leaders no wonder we are looking for a greater meaning… I hope that younger generations channel their search for meaning into more important priorities like human rights, health, education and the environment.

Singinginthesnow · 03/07/2022 08:18

The children who were allowed to transition will be speaking in documentaries about how they shouldn't have been allowed to transition as they didn't know really what they wanted and they could have been left to explore. Girls used to be called Tom boys but didn't start taking hormones and the same for boys etc.

Women will start getting their identity back! Women are slowly being eroded in my opinion. I used to be more comfortable with my girls using a public loo with me outside waiting.... not anymore! Anyone can walk in and claim to be nin binary, trans etc.

Meat and alcohol will be eaten in smaller quantities.

Everyone will either be offended by everything or our kids generation will have a goof head wobble and wake up and not be so silly! My 9 year old has already started saying how a lot of adults are very sensitive from what he's witnessed in life, tv and Internet shows. And I agree with him.

I'm hoping relationships/sexual relationships will be more private. We don't need to know what people get up to! Unless your chatting to a close friend/relative.

And shows like naked attraction I hope will be axed. Scrolling through the channels and suddenly a Penis, vulva or boobs are staring and flashing across the screen!

It will hopefully be easier to buy or rent a property without killing yourself for a deposit.

Kids activities like sports etc will be easier and cheaper to join to help with healthier lifestyle.

Hopefully boris and his buddies will have been sacked or put away for all their lies. But they will just be replaced by someone equally as bad or worse.

This is just what's in my head at the moment....
