To wonder what we do now that will be frowned upon in 30-40 years time

This video is a prime example of how attitudes change. It seems we go just go from stupid to stupid all the time.

digg.com/video/this-1967-british-news-report-that-interviewed-drunk-drivers-before-it-became-illegal-is-bonkers

Another example is passive smoking. Obviously stupid and horrible to think we just smoked freely inside, thinking it was fine to breathe in smoke.

Fossil fueled cars will likely be the next as will idling cars outside of schools but I wonder what else we'll be scratching our heads over in future.

Eating meat

5128gap · 01/07/2022 13:10

Maybe the age for driving. There's so many accidents involving teen drivers, including three who lost their lives before the age of 19 within my own circle.

Private car ownership

I'm with you on this one I think. I predict great fleets of electric self driving taxis you can summon with your phone and that in a generation or two people won't know how to drive and owning your own car(s) will be seen as either a quirky thing for rich people, or an eccentric and expensive (and dangerous) hobby.

RelativePitch · 01/07/2022 13:22

@Cornettoninja yes I appreciate New Zealand and Aus are more protective. It's just it was all over the press recently how many animal deaths cats are responsible for per year in the uk- t's up to 270 million. Then you have people petitioning to make it law to report a cat being run over in the same way that you have to a dog. Whilst that would be great for grieving owners, the legal status of a cat would probably have to change with all the implications that brings.

Andante57 · 01/07/2022 14:07

What will happen to dogs then? Will they just be wild?

I wondered that. Maybe in the not terribly attractive sounding society that dotjones is predicting, domestic dogs will be seized and destroyed.

Dajeeling · 01/07/2022 14:09

Licking the back of envelopes fo seal them and selling all this Trans stuff to impressionable teenagers- particularly on those clearly on the ASC spectrum.

Cornettoninja · 01/07/2022 14:31

All fair points @RelativePitch but honestly I’ve been hearing the same arguments my entire adult life and nothing has happened yet. A petition to change the law is just that, a petition. I doubt very much it would ever reach the HoL if I’m honest, and if it did would soon prove unenforceable.

I think there’s a certain group of supporters of the idea of keeping cats enclosed who undermine the legitimate arguments because it soon becomes patently clear they just don’t like cats and have found legitimate arguments to back up their dislike rather than the other way round iyswim.

MissusMop · 01/07/2022 15:20

Eating meat, dairy and eggs. I can easily imagine this will be seen as abhorrent within a couple of generations.

angela99999 · 01/07/2022 15:37

I'd say long-haul flying in particular, but flying in general - and taking holidays abroad.
It's just so hypocritical to spout about global warming and yet continue to fly without good reason.
Recycling has to become second nature too, in most places it's relatively easy to do this now.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/07/2022 15:41

I’m not sure eating eggs, milk and meat will be abhorrent. We’ve survived for years on this.

I was veggie years ago, but just found it bland. I hate fake meat, and l love eggs and cheese. Vegan cheese is rank.

Why would people be different in 40 years?

palygold · 01/07/2022 16:02

Definitely not in a couple of generations.

icelollycraving · 01/07/2022 16:04

Drag. Men dressing as women I think will go the way of blackface.

I definitely think this is true - I'm not confident we'll get there in 40 years

I sincerely hope it will come to be seen as unaccetable that people were kept alive for years with no quality of life and poor care, rather than allowing them an earlier, peaceful and dignified death.

This all sounds a bit Logan's Run!

I think Brexit will frowned upon

Logan's Run killed them at 30...

Hmm, I don’t know if Australia are indicative of popular trends regarding ecosystems. They’re notoriously protective of their habitat and have been for some time. Not many other countries have gone to their extremes.

Definitely should. Hundreds of millions of small mammals and birds killed every year by cats is going to have a devastating impact on local wildlife populations. Can't see how cat ownership can be justified.

Expensive showy weddings
Expensive, showy school proms
Showy baby showers and gender reveal parties
Influencers

Hope that all these will be gone, but partiularly influencers who honestly serve little useful purpose.
Could also wish that talentless, low-grade celebrities will be gone.

And birds eat crops that are grown for human consumption. Birds are bigger pests to me personally 🤷‍♀️

Seen several comments about surrogacy.. am I missing the point? What’s wrong with surrogacy?

Yes 😂

FootieMama · 01/07/2022 23:07

Was wondering the same about surrogacy?

FootieMama · 01/07/2022 23:09

Also black face so very diferent from drag.

Rainbowshit · 01/07/2022 23:12

Transing children. It's insanity that we allow children to make decisions that will sterilise them and leave them medical patients for life.

TheKeatingFive · 01/07/2022 23:38

I'm not sure why it would be surprising that exploiting vulnerable women's bodies and buying and selling babies might be frowned on by some.

MyOwnView · 01/07/2022 23:42

Swearing on web sites (like this one)
Lack of morals.
Not disciplining children by giving them boundaries.
Free speech (lost never to return sadly)
Discipline in schools.
Greed.
Children never seeing their Dads wearing a tie.
Children unsure who their father is.
Parents arguing openly with teachers.
Poor table manners.
The list is ongoing.
Girls wearing trousers in school.
Lack of school uniforms.
Lack of respect for the religious, for teachers or the law.
Im sure in 34/40 years they will be confused as to why all parents were not told to attend parenting teaching groups.
