The biggest argument always boils down to “taking a life away, acting like God”.

So - how does IVF sit with you? Are you anti it, because it is “acting like God”. Are you for it because acting like God to create a life is somehow fine whereas taking one away is not?

Do you understand that many IVF pregnancies are high risk and may ultimately require medical management aka abortions?

I’m firmly pro science and think access to both abortions and IVF is a wonderful thing, for avoidance of doubt.

One never sees protests outside fertility clinics and I wondered why.

@mublma - what about religions that believe access to safe abortion is a religious right (e.g. Judaism)? Why does your religion trump all athiests, but other religious faiths as well.

The funny thing is that there is nothing in the bible about abortion. In fact the lovely book itself even says life is "first breath".

And you can't see the parallel between that and your attempt to force your beliefs on everyone else, no matter what the female body count.

In this scenario, if unable to access an abortion, many women will be beaten to induce a miscarriage. Leading to medical complications and sometimes fatal injuries. Pregnancy is one of the most dangerous times for women in abusive relationships @mublma

The issue here isn't that services provide abortion, it is that women are not provided support when faced with DA and helped whilst pregnant and after birth if they do want to keep the baby.

How will a woman having a safe and legal abortion kill or seriously hurt them?

Cartoonmom · 29/06/2022 12:37

@SexyLittleNosferatu - yes, that's my understanding of the Jewish interpretation. Life is sacred, but life is the mother and not a fetus. I worked with a Jewish woman who wouldn't even consider baby names until after a live a birth and she spent time getting to know the baby.

I'd rather take my chances with that than bring hell here to earth for vulnerable women and girls.

You can jab me with the really big trident.

Consider that your beliefs also harm girls, women & children, and would also be reviewed on a hypothetical judgement day?

I'm sure there is a lot in the bible about being open minded, not being led by fools and acting with kindess.

@mublma

Could you read and seriously consider this?

Sadly your belief won’t count for anything on judgement day

Imagine wanting to worship some evil cloud-dwelling overlord who has set aside a special day to judge the particular brand of intelligent ape that he chose to create and befriend. What a douche.

So you don’t believe that abortion is traumatic?

Neither of mine were remotely traumatic. Both very straightforward and uncomplicated. I'd make it a hat trick should the need arise.

So you don’t believe that abortion is traumatic?

@mublma

I'm disappointed that's your only response. It doesn't seem like you're acting in good faith or with integrity here.

Yes, a planned early abortion of cause can be traumatic. But it is better than the alternative in many scenarios, particularly the one you outlined above.

It's been explained many times. You are being obtuse. I don't expect anything else. You are incapable of analysis.

Your beliefs will lead to God knows how many women dying in back alleys, along with the unformed foetuses. Although the forced delays will actually cause the abortions to happen at later stages than they otherwise would. It will hugely empower abusers, people traffickers and rapists. That's apparently OK with you too.

Your response to this is either to say you don't know what to do about it, or blame the women themselves for their desperation when they die. Either way, you don't care about it.

Judgement day is coming, apparently.

It is traumatic for some though, there is a really sad thread running at the moment with women trying to get over the trauma. I'm not saying that balances out with the trauma of having an unwanted baby but it is real.

I do not think you are acting in good faith or in a Godly manner.

From what I know of Jesus' teachings, I don't think spreading misinformation or abuse online is what he preached.

LynneBenfield · 29/06/2022 12:46

Re trauma of abortion. Some are, some aren’t but in the case of those that are, they are LESS traumatic than continuing an unwanted, unplanned pregnancy.
