To be totally gutted for American women?

Anothernamechangeplease · 24/06/2022 15:19

The US Supreme Court has reversed the Roe v Wade ruling. Millions of American women have lost their right to make decisions about what happens to their own bodies. Sad

I have never had an abortion and personally, I'm not sure if I ever could, but I have always been passionately of the view that individual women should be able to make that choice for themselves. It's awful that this right has been removed for so many.

A lot. The Evangelical right and the Catholic right are generally suspicious of one another, but they are cosy bedfellows when it comes to winding back the clock on women's rights.

Artichokeleaves · 24/06/2022 16:26

This is where women need to start organising. Properly. As a sex class. And put women's rights at the head of their voting power. We need proper women representation in positions of power as opposed to the ones let through for being good girls who do what they're told and don't scare the horses, and we need to use the 52% voting power we have.

We've been way too passive for way too long. Largely because we have too much else to do.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 24/06/2022 16:26

Lots of money to be raked in from selling very young babies to childless couples.
''Gazumping'' has happened in the past.

That is utterly terrible. But I do think buying a baby is awful anyway.

EmmaH2022 · 24/06/2022 16:27

EmilyBolton "her body goes through massive changes as a result of that almost a parasitic relationship."

Scientifically, it's not almost parasitic is it? It just is parasitic.

I knew this was coming. obviously I voted YANBU. It's not a shock, but I've given up on humanity and I expect to live to see this in England.

alwaysontheloo · 24/06/2022 16:27

I feel ill reading this. It's so frightening.

RevoltingHumanHead · 24/06/2022 16:27

That was to @Puzzledandpissedoff 's 'As said on a previous thread, I'm wondering how much the fact that 6 out of the 9 supreme court justices are catholic has influenced this'

bloodyunicorns · 24/06/2022 16:28

A corpse has more rights in the USA than a woman. Horrendous.

MissMarpleRocks · 24/06/2022 16:29

This will happen here won’t it? God I feel sick.

Reallyreallyborednow · 24/06/2022 16:29

It's so contradictory, isn't it? How on earth do they have the audacity to bang on about the right to life as a justification of controlling what women do with their own bodies while simultaneously arguing to keep gun laws that have resulted in an average of more than one mass shooting every day this year?! It absolutely beggars belief, and I don't understand why there isn't a massive popular uprising against this shit?

also that life isn’t that precious if you can’t pay for it. Don’t have health insurance, don’t want to bankrupt your family, can’t afford to pay for your insulin/cancer treatment/life threatening infection.

fine then, fuck off and die.

Really shocking.
Does Morning after pill count?
Women will now have to travel to states where Terminations are legal.
Forcing someone to carry a child they do not want is cruel to the child as well as the mother.

Adoption is not the hunky dory sweet thing it is made out to be, and being as it's America, these babies will likely be sold to the highest bidder via ''Private'' adoption agencies.

Yes many who support this would also want the MAP banned

i saw an interview with one who said all contraceptives that can prevent an already-fertilised egg from implanting should be banned, which would rule out a lot of them i believe ?

Gonna be very weird if Supreme Court ends a constitutional right to obtain an abortion next week, saying it should be left to the States to decide, right after it just imposed a constitutional right to concealed carry of firearms, saying it cannot be left to the States to decide

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 24/06/2022 16:30

As said on a previous thread, I'm wondering how much the fact that 6 out of the 9 supreme court justices are catholic has influenced this

Religion has no place is a persons bodily autonomy. And if anyone dares to even say god is pro life, I'd like them to remember the first born sons of Egypt, the flood, Jobs family. All in the bible. And if you believe in it, all where innocent people were killed.

BlusteryLake · 24/06/2022 15:30

How is it OK for small children to be collateral trade off for "the right to bear arms", yet a woman can't have an abortion because "all life is precious"? America is down the pan.

I've been trying to word this myself but you've articulated it perfectly.

A sad day Sad

Kidsaretryingtodestroyme · 24/06/2022 16:33

A country where guns have more rights than women. Being able to shoot a class full of primary school kids is less bad than having an abortion.

This injustice will be overturned.

By any means necessary.

And there we have it - one step further to The Handmaids Tale becoming reality

Brood~mares

Scary.

ChompChamp · 24/06/2022 16:34

You said you've had women on this site telling you it's a price worth paying......

There are a small number of American women on here, even less who voted for trump, and I would love to see the evidence of them saying it's a price worth paying, no actual feminist would ever utter those words.

Your just trying to cause shit, as I said fuck off because now is not the time or place for that stupid level of discussion.
There are plenty of American women on this site,
including those who justified voting for Trump because of trans issues, and yes, even those who specifically said that losing Roe was a price worth paying.

I specifically recall one making the argument that if the Dems won, that would mean sex-based rights would be no more, making abortions
impossible because nobody would be able to tell what a woman is.

I acknowledge that those voters make up a very small amount of Trump voters and thus take only
a very small amount of the blame, but when another poster on here was performing mental gymnastics to blame today’s decision on transgender people, mine seemed like a fair point to make.

Seems not. Fair enough tbh. It isn't really a position that can easily be justified!

chimichangaz · 24/06/2022 16:35

America. What the actual fuck have you done?

As @dreamingbohemian says, this is not about protecting life it's about the control and oppression of women.

Gilead. I can't believe this but it feels like it's becoming where they are moving towards. How can a small group of people suddenly wipe out the human rights of millions of women?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/06/2022 16:35

That was to Puzzledandpissedoff

Yes, I twigged that RevoltingHumanHead Smile; you're quite right about these groups being very hot on overturning womens' rights, and this in a land where church and state are supposed to be completely separate

Except, that is, when it suits ...

TwoSecondsLater · 24/06/2022 16:35

The more newly elected justices were all asked about Roe when they were being interviewed for the position and all said it stood as law, so what has changed since they were appointed? Did they lie under oath?

There is an excellent OBGYN on YouTube Dr Mama Jones who talked about the implications for the Texas laws with different scenarios, ie we believe the woman's life is at risk so now we can intervene, the mother survives, the husband is angry about losing the baby and sues. They can't use her medical record in court as she is not the one suing. Dr Jones is a Texan herself.

It is a mess. A terrifying mess. They have been chipping away at Roe since it was enacted and there is a very good John Oliver video on YouTube talking about how states have made access very difficult, making clinics have corridors wide enough to take 2 hospital trolleys even though they only provide medical abortions not surgical.

hareagain · 24/06/2022 16:36

YANBU It's fucking abhorrent. The thought of that right being taken away from me makes me feel physically sick.

SushiShopSearch · 24/06/2022 16:36

What's next? Women lose the right to vote?

Artichokeleaves · 24/06/2022 16:36

How on earth do they have the audacity to bang on about the right to life as a justification of controlling what women do with their own bodies while simultaneously arguing to keep gun laws

Quite.

Women must be controlled so no precious life is lost... but that precious life at six years old can be gunned down in their classroom because it's not as precious as the right to have an arsenal of automatic weapons. So no. Children's lives are not precious, they're appallingly under valued.

Which makes this solely about controlling and subordinating women.

See multiple other linking agendas.

BringMeTea · 24/06/2022 16:37

The good ol' US of A is fucked. I feel so so sorry for any non-supporters of this and they are legion. What a horrible place for women, the poor, non-whites etc etc.
