Not rich but the calm, serene and classy vibe that some people just give off?

To me it’s about being slow, polite and considered if that makes sense, never rushed. Plus looking well put together.

I’m always rushing and speaking too fast and seem harassed but I’d LOVE classier!

I bumped into a mum of one of the other kids at nursery at the beach today. Had never met before but recognised her son. I immediately sensed she was classy as she had expensive sun glasses on, nice understated clothes I can imagine were not from primark, a massive engagement ring and her kids have nice names! When she told me which area of town she had just moved to, I know it’s expensive and it made me feel self conscious! I’ve always felt a bit insecure about myself, not helped by the fact my mum classes herself and my dad as the rough ones of the family!!

My husband has a very good job, we have a modest house, I have an average job but have never been career driven. I have a few tattoos, I don’t spend a lot on clothes and have a bit of a common accent! She said she would like to meet up for a play date and I was taken aback thinking ‘what me?’… I hope it happens!

Are you serious?

Fuck me that's depressing as fuck. Do you feel inferior to someone who wears designer sunglasses?

palygold · 24/06/2022 22:13

I agree and think that's a shame @CuriousCatfish

I know someone classy. She's very political and manages her moods well, never says anything controversial, always on time, always responds to emails promptly. It sounds boring, but actually the relentless consistency of her good behaviour is so impressive, intimidating even, over time. She is slim too. I doubt she does stress eating. In fact, I've never seen her eat and I've known her for years. I saw her drink coffee once, though, surely.

Hmm... I'm wondering how someone can be very political yet never say anything controversial...?

I've never in my life been grateful that someone in Gucci sunglasses wanted a 'playdate'

I'm a bit too bolshie to ever be considered classy. That's ok with me though.

NippyWoowoo · 24/06/2022 23:02

Nice sleek hair that falls into place and could withstand a force 10 gale.

Oof. Where to begin with this one.

antelopevalley · 24/06/2022 23:26

So a certain kind of white person's hair?

Class definitely is not limited to Caucasians.

Dame Floella Benjamin has Class. She is confident, successful , stands tall, and appears warm and at ease and genuine, with a wide cross section of people.

RobynNora · 24/06/2022 23:40

I’d love to be that self possessed person who moves/speaks slowly and purposefully and isn’t easily ruffled by others. When I think ‘classy’, I imagine someone who’s calm and ‘smooth’, male or female.

I’m always fumbling for things and smiling too much in a panicked sort of way!

CuriousCatfish · 24/06/2022 23:41

What about women with curly hair?

Pleasecreateausername · 24/06/2022 23:49

I think replying only to every fourth email. Talking in a whispered tone when in public and only answering to those wearing a very specific pair of sunglasses. Sharing opinions only under the light of a new moon. Wearing a different scent of perfu

...perfume on each limb so that your scent is likely to be favourable to everyone. Beige leggings and sparkly nipple coverings. Something like that.

CuriousCatfish · 24/06/2022 23:52

'Classy' if you must, is someone who is confident in themselves, who has opinions and wears whatever they want. Who has tattoos and piercings and pink hair if they feel like it. Not some bland stepford wife in breton tops and linen trousers.

Duchess of Cambridge is the epitome of ‘classy’.

She's the epitome of someone who knows their place.

Sources from the palace say her farts have subtle undertones of Iris.

After reading this thread, I'm glad I'm not vanilla classy.

She's the epitome of someone who knows their place.

I do think this attitude towards her is a bit mean. Apparently she's very shy..As a very shy person myself I know I'd take the same approach to being in the public eye.

Being so 'bland' in public reduces the sticks for press to beat her with (ie like meghan) and reduces the amount of intrusion into her private life.

Seems like a win-win to me.

slowcookerforone · 25/06/2022 00:23

I think I'm too friendly to ever be classy.
I feel to be classy means you are slightly removed from life and your emotions.
I am not.
I also over-share, over-laugh and have my elbows on the table at all times...

I LOVE these threads

i also love Kate Middleton and think she is classy - which to me means well mannered, educated/intellectually curious and having a sense of style

Boxowine · 25/06/2022 03:32

Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous is a great example of superficial classiness. She must have studied these threads.

PeanutButterOnToad · 25/06/2022 06:08

Primarily someone with good manners who is polite to everyone they deal with.

DangerouslyBored · 25/06/2022 06:17

I can tell what isn’t considered ‘classy’, posting on MN to tell a bunch of randoms that you are considered ‘classy’ Grin

I mean, come on, it doesn’t get any less classy than that Confused Grin
