To ask what makes someone seem ‘classy’?

Not rich but the calm, serene and classy vibe that some people just give off?

To me it’s about being slow, polite and considered if that makes sense, never rushed. Plus looking well put together.

I’m always rushing and speaking too fast and seem harassed but I’d LOVE classier!

The epitome of elegance or classiness is Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle's mother. First off, due to yoga work outs, she walks as if her legs move from the hip and the torso remains rigid and erect. She glides, and turns her toe out - discreetly. She can drape a shawl over her front without fastening it with a pin, because she is so serene and controlled in her movement, that the drape sits on her shoulders.
.The hair swept back from the forehead is a look which only truly elegant people can really carry off, and there needs to be a sense of intellectual vigour housed in that imperious forehead, for the look to work.
In that photo of the royal grandparents admiring little Archie ( or was it his doll equivalent - if security had been a fear for Harry and he'd wanted a double) Doria's countenance speaks the fact that she has thoughts travelling across her mind, and she isn't just reacting in a cheesy grimace. She is a thinker who, the photo suggests, is truly inspecting the child, as she leans forward to admire, appreciate and appraise. Outer classiness can only emanate from mental finesse and what the Victorians called 'nicety', and Doria is thoughtful and gestates sincere thoughts, we can deduce. Doria was also very beautiful when young , and........

.....as Maupassant ( I think,)tells us in that short take about 'The Necklace ' women have no class, as their beauty is their class.
He is very correct, no doubt. Great beauties, such as the footballer's wife, Danielle Lloyd, or the model, Marie Helvin, don't need to be rich or poor or finished or the beneficiary of private schooling, their beauty transcends all that and gives them distinction and perfection.

Lie down and take two aspirin FGS.

Also HOOTING at Danielle Lloyd

Gingerella55 · 11/07/2022 09:37

Agree that Princess Kate, Doria Ragland and Michelle Obama are classy. Danielle Lloyd is absolutely not. Sorry Danielle.

Also agree about nice teeth. My teeth are wonky so I will never be classy unless I spend a fortune on orthodontic treatment. Plus I cut my own hair so no hope for me.🙄

CulturePigeon · 11/07/2022 11:49

ooh - just thought of the 'classiest' (yuk, I know) woman I've come across: Kate Humble, the wildlife telly presenter.

I admire her - she's very natural in her appearance and focused on the matter in hand, be it other people or the natural world. Clearly confident enough not to worry about messing with her hair or what she looks like. Yes, I know she's a very well-blessed person in terms of looks, but she really is a breath of fresh air in a very artificial, warped, trivial and narcissistic media world.

Just my opinion!

Oh yes, I agree CulturePigeon, Kate Humble!!

Same!!

NROL111 · 12/07/2022 20:35

My family for several generations had the privilege of deportment and elocution as they grew up in European aristocracy. Simplicity is key, we were told. Elegance, understatement, a few investment pieces and quality above all. Cleanliness, discipline and grace. No foul language. Eloquence, good manners and discretion. That is how I was raised.

XingMing · 12/07/2022 20:59

Courtesy, and decent posture. Unfailing politeness, to everyone.

What interesting responses.

In my case...I’m fat, I have terrible posture, I am tattooed and pierced, loud, I dress however I like whether or not it is ‘size appropriate’, I swear a lot, I have dyed blonde hair, tattooed eyebrows and lip filler and an Estuary accent and wear light makeup every day.

However, I am polite and kind, well-educated and have an interesting career in healthcare that I have worked hard for, I am the ‘dependable friend’ that people come to for help and TLC and I have very good manners.

I also know people who are immaculately presented with beautiful tailored clothes, expensive haircuts, designer handbags and speak the Queen’s English but who are either terribly boring or rude and entitled.

I know who I would rather be.

WhackingPhoenix · 12/07/2022 21:52

But back to the original question, if I had to name a ‘classy’ woman, I would absolutely say Michelle Obama. Beautifully presented, intelligent, warm and independent.

nananess · 12/07/2022 23:24

Classy is such an outdated expression. Why do you want to appear classy op?

Gingerella55 · 14/07/2022 22:59

"...have dyed blonde hair, tattooed eyebrows and lip filler and an Estuary accent and wear light makeup every day."

I just had to Google "Estuary accent" as I have never heard of this. So it's a London accent but not cockney?

newnamethanks · 15/07/2022 09:53

Estry innit? Common across SE, a light Cockney accent with occasional sprinklings of Caribbean and Indian (subcontinent) phrases or pronunciation. Hard to describe but recognisable when you hear it.

newnamethanks · 15/07/2022 10:02

Danielle Lloyd is classy? Good grief. This is a very odd thread.
