Roundabout who was in the wrong?

I am new to driving but still think I was not in the wrong. If I am can someone explain why thanks. I have attached a diagram to explain. I am the blue car and the blue line shows the path I am taking. I was using my indicators. The orange car is the other car in questions and the orange line is the path they deciced to take. They did not indicate and I did not know they wanted to change lane on roundabout until I got on. When I got onto roundabout (the outer lane) the car decided to change to my lane (see the orange line going from inner lane to outer lane) then pip their horn and then speed past me after both exiting roundabout and give me the middle finger. I am wrong to have got into the lane indicated in diagram (the outer lane) on roundabout when that lane was clear and only the inner lane had a car in it. Thanks sorry if not clear.

Yes you give way to your right and without any clear indication (an annoyance of mine but still the rules) then you shouldn’t have pulled out.

Watapalava · 20/06/2022 17:56

Your kinda both right as you are meant to move to the right just before the exit you want to take which organge car did and she has right of way given you give way to the right but then she didn’t indicate so I guess it’s kind a both but more your fault I’d say

AchatAVendre · 20/06/2022 17:56

That doesn't make any sense. Do you think the orange car would just endlessly circle the roundabout without ever changing lane? You shouldn't enter the roundabout before it is clear of traffic that might use the lane you are contemplating.

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 20/06/2022 17:56

You were in the wrong as they were already on the roundabout and you pulled out in front of them, you need to give way to anything coming from your right.

This. You were in the wrong.

Darkroot · 20/06/2022 17:56

No indicator means they’re going straight over.

HSKAT · 20/06/2022 17:57

If a cars not indicating I would assume they are going straight on, which the orange car has, so you should have gave way.

Sirzy · 20/06/2022 17:57

Darkroot · 20/06/2022 17:56

No indicator means they’re going straight over.

That’s the assumption but it’s not a guarantee. Always best not to assume anything about another driver!

Londonnight · 20/06/2022 17:58

You always give way to the right. If they were going straight across the roundabout there is no reason to indicate as I was taught when I took my driving test. They should possibly indicate to say they are going into the turning after the roundabout.
So to me, you are in the wrong.

Happyplace88 · 20/06/2022 17:58

You were in the wrong. Always give way to traffic on the right. They won’t indicate until they are exiting the roundabout otherwise it’s confusing. No need for them to give you the finger whoever was wrong.
10/10 for the excellent diagram though 😁

Mosaic123 · 20/06/2022 17:58

Aren't you supposed to wait until the way is clear before you start up?

From your diagram it looks as if you set off whilst the orange car was travelling.

Shouldn't you have waited until your route was clear?

JLQ1020 · 20/06/2022 17:58

Ideally yes someone should indicate when changing lane but u were in the wrong here. Always give way to the left and if someone is on the roundabout no matter what lane you shouldn't pull out as they can change lane without warning as you found out.

Wakemeuuuup · 20/06/2022 17:59

I'm afraid you're in the wrong. You must give way to your right on a roundabout regardless of indicators

ComDummings · 20/06/2022 17:59

Yeah you were wrong. They were going straight over. Annoying as they should indicate when leaving but if in doubt wait just a second to make sure you’re certain you know what they’re doing if you’re unsure.

TunaSalad · 20/06/2022 17:59

If a car isn't indicating I just wait. And even if they are I wait until I am sure.

balalake · 20/06/2022 17:59

The other vehicle on your right was there, and you pulled out, you are responsible.

Darkroot · 20/06/2022 17:59

Sirzy · 20/06/2022 17:57

Yes I agree with you on that. I’d never pull out if there was anything to my right on a roundabout, just to be on the safe side

Hankunamatata · 20/06/2022 17:59

Sorry I think your in the wrong. They were already on the roundabout and had right of way. No indicator means they were going straight ahead. You should not have gone onto roundabout unless there was no traffic to your right

Parky04 · 20/06/2022 18:00

It's your responsibility to give way to traffic from your right. You would have failed your test if this had happened!

Grumpybutfunny · 20/06/2022 18:00

Is it two lanes coming off where you both exited? If she was in the inner lane of the round about at that point I would assume she would go down lane two on the exit aswell. I wouldn't be bothered if she only pipped at you

Tree543 · 20/06/2022 18:00

You were in the wrong. Yes need to give way to all traffic on the roundabout.

DashboardConfessional · 20/06/2022 18:02

I never go on a roundabout (with free flowing traffic, sometimes there's a queue going round the inside lane to turn right etc) unless both lanes are clear. They should only have indicated at the point they passed the first exit which is a narrow timespan anyway.

UrsulaPandress · 20/06/2022 18:02

You should not have entered the roundabout and it is concerning that you are even questioning this.

Who on Earth taught you to drive?

Hugasauras · 20/06/2022 18:02

Yes, you were in the wrong. But now you know for next time!

ErinAoife · 20/06/2022 18:02

As per your diagram you were in the wrong, car in the roundabout has always priority, a lot of people don't indicate in roundabout.
