Husband keeps farting

CherryOh · 16/06/2022 20:08

I have a really stressful job and 4 teenagers and all I want to do now is flop on the sofa and watch something mindless. Husband is farting constantly and just shrugs when I ask him to stop. I want to kill him. Or leave. AIBU?

It smells?

Everybody farts, some people choose to do it in the loo...

Giveitall · 16/06/2022 21:51

Farts are like children.
You don’t mind your own but don’t like other people’s!

muimpre · 16/06/2022 21:52

I confess I fart alot in the night/morning but they only occasionally smell and when they do, I know I need the loo. Why do I do so many odourless farts?!

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 16/06/2022 21:54

Don't see what the problem is.
It's a natural body function.

If you're in the comfort of your own home then let rip.

Mumdiva99 · 16/06/2022 21:55

I feel your pain. My husband just let 2 stinkers go and thinks its funny. It isn't. I'm trying to watch Love Island and browse MN. How can I concentrate on the Davide situation with all this smell. (FYI....I haven't watched for a few days.....nothing seems to have changed....Ekin- Sue is still all over the new boy - new new boy since I last watched....what happened to Jax?)

99ProblemsButAFartAintOne · 16/06/2022 21:56

I think it's so strange to suggest someone go outside or to the toilet every time they need to fart.

In my home we all just fart when we need to. It's as natural as yawning and it gets a similar reaction, nothing.

Some of you really need to unplug and just let them rip.

Winter2019 · 16/06/2022 22:20

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 16/06/2022 20:58

But farts are funny aren't they?

My dh and son(adult) fart loudly all the time. They rarely smell though.

It demonstrates how comfortable he feels around you. My dh and son hold them in when we have company.

Maybe a bit juvenile and inconsiderate given he knows you don't like it.

Maybe try and ignore him unless they stink. Then tell him he needs to change his diet.
I can't hold my farts. My dh has only relatively recently stopped being mock horrified when I accidentally let one rip. He often says "pardon" because he thinks I said somethingGrin

🤢🤢🤢

tillylula · 16/06/2022 22:22

Mine seems to do it when I'm in a mood. I just ignore him and leave the room. 🤣 its OK for him to do it but as soon as I or one of our DDs does it he makes a big deal.

Yea so is peeing and shitting and you do it in toilet!!! Or do you 🙄

99ProblemsButAFartAintOne · 16/06/2022 22:30

You can't compare farting to peeing and pooing. It's more comparable to sneezing and I assume you don't do that in the bathroom every time?

Mariposista · 16/06/2022 22:33

Hahahahahaha this thread is hysterical. What is it with men and farting 🤣
Another idea OP - send your husband to Spain for fart-rehab. I live here and thre whole concept of farting/poo/toilet humour etc is so taboo. I am so used to men laughing at fart jokes but they don’t find farts or poo jokes funny at all here. I don’t mean they fart/poo less, obviously they do, it’s natural but they don’t revel in it like so many men (like your husband, and my uncle, do). Send him out and he might learn that his farts loving isn’t tolerated everywhere. 💨💨💨💨

Planterina22 · 16/06/2022 22:34

Could he have something like an intolerance. Is after certain occasions

CherryOh · 16/06/2022 23:16

Thanks everyone. You have cheered me up after a miserable day. I think I am going to have a chat about diet and whether he has any other symptoms that might warrant a trip to the GP. But if he is just being disgusting then I’m going to be really clear just how revolting this is for me. He is giving me the ick!!!

I think it's absolutely fine to let out the odd fart but my DH used to trump on the sofa in the evening constantly, almost acting proud of how big and stinky they were.
He soon stopped once I pointed out that sitting in a fug of his poo particles while trying to watch a nice documentary was not sexy or attractive, and that it really dampened my sexual feelings towards him - once he understood I didn't want to have sex with a fart machine he soon stopped.

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 16/06/2022 23:23

I find it crazy how precious Mumsnetters are about farting in around their partners. Its so weird. DH and I let rip in front of each other all the time?

Like, I get that you don't want to be guffing away at work, or in front of friends (we had to have words with DS about farting in public when he was younger!) but in your own home in front of the person you share your life with? What is the problem really?

Lol at the son going into his sisters bedrooms to fart! Grin

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 16/06/2022 23:25

A bloke that I couldn't fart freely with would be a total and utter deal breaker for me and I'm not even exaggerating.

Planterina22 · 16/06/2022 23:38

Ugh @Highlyquestionablehoumous but where does it end

KosherDill · 16/06/2022 23:47

Disrespectful and boorish.

I can't imagine crawling into bed with that.

I have never done that in the presence of my DP, nor he me. Nor any other past lover.

It's just gross and TMI. We close the bathroom door, too.

SpiderVersed · 16/06/2022 23:58

Light a candle in the room, that should sort out any smell pretty quickly.

If I fart and it stinks, I apologise and go to the toilet for any other farts because my family don’t deserve be in a smelly environment. WTF is funny about farting once you’re older than 9?

Your DH is being a pig.

whynotwhatknot · 17/06/2022 00:05

You lot are hilarious 😂now I’m imagining sticking a cork in, getting a load of jars ready and setting up a website. Farts R Us. Jars of Wonder. Eau de swamp?

I’m pretty sure Christina Perri did a song about this.
