To offer the workmen a calippo?

They’ve been digging up the road out the front for 2 days. Every time someone moves the dogs bark. I’m trying to work. (dogs barking through Teams meetings). DD is working nights so can’t sleep (Digging and barking).
but it’s hot and I’m eating one so feel a bit guilty. Would it be weird to offer them one?

Why do you miseries have to come on a nice thread and start bitching?

it really gave me a lift this morning. If you haven’t got anything to say then kindly piss off

Witchcraftandhokum · 16/06/2022 19:57

I also had an abundance of travel mugs in which I gave them their drinks in. Every evening I used to come home and find the clean mugs on my doorstep with a thank you note.

Btw how do you pronounce Calippo, everytime I try my DC fall about with laughter at their foreign mother

Cuh lippo (like hippo) but I’m northern so it could be more like ka lippo in other places

I just really want to know more about @sarahsteedman and what on earth she gave the builder and was the baby his? I'm just really confused.

limitededitionbarbie · 16/06/2022 20:24

I've done similar op when they were relaying our gas pipes it was really cold so I made them all tea and gave them some biscuits. They were very grateful.

It was a typo unfortunately and should have read Coke, I was single then and yes she is, I have tried a few times to track him down but have had no luck and it hasn't helped that o moved a few weeks later so lost immediate contact with the neighbour

dottypotter · 16/06/2022 21:25

What happened. Its nice to be nice

Thepossibility · 16/06/2022 21:30

Zwellers · 16/06/2022 19:53

Also not saying you would but how would the workman be sure you hadn't poisoned the ice lolly. Or what if one was allergic

Bloody hell. Are you ok? Sometimes things can be nice.

Eggshausted · 16/06/2022 21:32

Zwellers · 16/06/2022 19:45

Wierd. Why are you so invested in what random workmen that are nothing to do with you are doing. They arepaid to work, not eat ice cream.

Jesus H, there is always a fun sponge waiting in the wings…

itsgettingweird · 16/06/2022 21:42

I agree it's a nice gesture.

When I moved into my house it was new build and the builders were working on the second phase.

I always offered them something as they were working come rain shine and one day snow!!

Worked very well for me when I needed something doing and the offered to do it for free (it only came up in conversation it needed doing rather than me saying it specifically)

MistyRuins · 16/06/2022 22:08

Or what if one was allergic

I know those is a radical possibility, but - and this is just a guess, mind - I reckon they'd say thanks but no thanks.

But what if English was this 32nd language and he accidentally said 'Thanks please may I have another one' by accident and then the OP tripped, fell, ripped the wrapper off and it landed in his mouth?

Honestly, you're just not thinking this through.

But is the baby the builders? Is "can of coke" an euphemism? What's the relevance of saying you had a baby 9 months after meeting this builder?

You've never eaten at work? Or logged onto Mumsnet at work?

Nevermind, I see you answered the baby question. That offer of a can of coke escalated quickly.

SarahSteedman82 · 17/06/2022 08:16

It was very warm that day and he was very easy on the eye,.I was also feeling quite lonely at the time and as much as it was completely out of character and utterly stupid it gave me my amazing little one

LondonQueen · 17/06/2022 16:34

I've done similar before! They will appreciate it.

Nosieparker · 17/06/2022 17:59

I’m a postie and always grateful when someone offers a cold drink or ice lolly.

Leontine · 17/06/2022 18:47

Of course not. Why would you think it would be? 😂

ReformedWaywardTeen · 17/06/2022 18:53

Not weird at all.

DH is painting the front of a house, one of the neighbors of this house (owner is having this done whilst they are away) came out with a huge glass of lemonade, with ice, and a selection of ice lollies this afternoon. He wasn't even slightly weirded out by it, he was very grateful.

KikiBobby · 17/06/2022 19:21

You aren’t weird. You’re very nice.

TwoHundred · 17/06/2022 19:49

@Tock MN has skewed my sense of normal. i forsaw outcry and overstepped boundaries.

By 10pm there will be a slew of wives asking AIBU my husband has come home and smells of calippo, is he cheating posts.

wellstopdoingitthen · 17/06/2022 20:16

I always offer drinks to workmen outside my house. I don’t care if other people think it’s weird.

You gave a builder a can of come and 9 months later you had a baby? Confused

I almost woke my baby up laughing 😂

jobling · 17/06/2022 22:00

Why do you need approval for being thoughtful when it’s hot, just ask them!! 🤷🏻‍♀️
