To offer the workmen a calippo?

They’ve been digging up the road out the front for 2 days. Every time someone moves the dogs bark. I’m trying to work. (dogs barking through Teams meetings). DD is working nights so can’t sleep (Digging and barking).
but it’s hot and I’m eating one so feel a bit guilty. Would it be weird to offer them one?

I did similar around 4 years ago and offered a builder working outside the neighbours house a can of ice cold come, 9 months layer I welcomed a perfect little surprise, I sadly never saw the builder again!

Shock
Wingedharpy · 16/06/2022 15:30

"ice cold come"!
Did you really mean to say that @SarahSteedman82 ?!

LeniGray · 16/06/2022 15:30

I once gave a bottle of cold water I’d just bought to a bus driver who looked like he was about to pass out. He was a bit shy about taking it at first, until I reminded him that I was one of around 30 people trusting him to get us home safely. Not weird at all 👍

Oh no I most certainly did not! Autocorrect

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 16/06/2022 15:32

Go for it, last summer we left some cold water outside for our bin and recycling men, they'd come right in the middle of the afternoon and looked roasting. They were very grateful!

I'm pretty sure this whole thread is a big euphemism.

PurpleButterflyWings · 16/06/2022 15:34

Is anyone really going to say you are being unreasonable? Confused

This is Mumsnet where no good deed goes un-posted 😉

Blanketpolicy · 16/06/2022 15:39

YABU if you don't take before and after photos from the window. Need a photo of them all enjoying their calippos

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 16/06/2022 15:44

Definitely offer this.

Once when workers were working outside (burst water main) - I realised I didn't have anything else but my nephew's Mini Milks (we do have other ice lollies but they'd all gone), so I went out there with some plastic beakers of orange juice and the Mini Milks! They were really grateful even with the Mini Milks (one said "oh my little boy likes these!" Grin

😁

Think he was hoping for this to happen

LovesLaboursLoss · 16/06/2022 15:50

I don't know what a calippo is.

Like an ice-pop. Smile

When my Dad used to work on the roads (about 100 years ago! 😂) he said that he and his team were always incredibly grateful for any drink or lolly bought out for them by various people. I think it's a lovely thing to do.

caringcarer · 16/06/2022 16:05

A jug of iced water and a Callipo.

@FoggySpecs I say kah-Lip-o my sister says kah-lee-po 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've got worked fixing my drive and I've just given them an ice pole after reading this. I'm now their fav customer

My go to for figuring out how to pronounce brand names is to watch their adverts.

Unhelpful.. The kids say it one way, the narrator the other 😂

PurpleButterflyWings · 16/06/2022 15:56

😁

But this is also Mumsnet where no one has any interaction with strangers unless they have made an appointment and confirmed in triplicate.

zingally · 16/06/2022 16:22

FoggySpecs · 16/06/2022 14:19

Btw how do you pronounce Calippo, everytime I try my DC fall about with laughter at their foreign mother

Ca - like the first sound in carrot.
Lip - like the thing on your face.
Po - like the first sound in post.

Frazzled2207 · 16/06/2022 16:27

we moved house on a really hot day. I went and got a big box of rocket lollies initially intended for the kids but I ended up offering to the moving men and they went down very well

Tock · 16/06/2022 16:51

MN has skewed my sense of normal.
i forsaw outcry and overstepped boundaries.

@Simonjt that's definitely what @wibblewobbleball was hoping for Wink

This thread has introduced me to about 5 new words for popsicles I had never previously encountered. Jubblies! Ice poles! Love it.
