To offer the workmen a calippo?

They’ve been digging up the road out the front for 2 days. Every time someone moves the dogs bark. I’m trying to work. (dogs barking through Teams meetings). DD is working nights so can’t sleep (Digging and barking).
but it’s hot and I’m eating one so feel a bit guilty. Would it be weird to offer them one?

I’ve worked in jobs were I provided a service to people and a coffee or tea was not expected but was always well received by myself and my colleagues. I always tried to do a good job but a simple acknowledgment always made the job go more pleasantly. I do the same for people working for me.

That said however I accept that in the weird world of Mumsnet every tradesman must be regarded as a potential axe murderer and any gesture of goodwill risks being seen as an amorous invitation.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/06/2022 17:14

If you are my neighbour and it's your dogs barking "every time someone moves", can you just train your dogs and/or get them to shut the fuck up?

Apologies if this isn't the case, but fuck me I am about to lose my shit big time. You're probably not my neighbours as you sound nicer than them, but fuck me, the constantly barking dogs here are nearly bringing me to tears. Why can't people sort it out? So fucking selfish.

MachineBee · 16/06/2022 17:23

Hopefully they’ll be there tomorrow and given the forecast, will appreciate your offer even more.

nickthefox · 16/06/2022 17:32

are you single op? how romantic!

TheOrigRights · 16/06/2022 17:34

Eugh, so you've had barking dogs all day for 2 days already.
I am glad I don't live next door to you.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 16/06/2022 17:35

The nicest thing anyone ever did for me when I worked as a community health care professional was offering me a bottle of icy cold water on a hot day. I still remember that 10 years down the line.
You are lovely OP.

MangosteenSoda · 16/06/2022 17:41

I wish there were some sweaty workmen around here right now. Got a freezer drawer half full of orange calippos I could do with offloading. Wish I could just buy boxes of green ones.

I don't know what a calippo is.

You could have Googled it.

I did similar around 4 years ago and offered a builder working outside the neighbours house a can of ice cold come, 9 months layer I welcomed a perfect little surprise, I sadly never saw the builder again!

You gave a builder a can of come and 9 months later you had a baby? Confused

Tock · 16/06/2022 17:45

Good lord that took an unexpected turn

Indoctro · 16/06/2022 17:54

If I have anything in the house

Juice, crisps etc I often go out and offer the bin men then when they come

They are always gratefully received

NeverDropYourMooncup · 16/06/2022 18:00

Wingedharpy · 16/06/2022 15:30

"ice cold come"!
Did you really mean to say that @SarahSteedman82 ?!

If you could get that, DP would be in with a chance between now and September.

butterflyflutterby123 · 16/06/2022 18:01

No question yes. Lovely gesture

FoggySpecs · 16/06/2022 18:03

Best thread ever. I was saying Ca leep oh, but thanks for setting me right.

CheshireCat1 · 16/06/2022 18:11

I always make drinks and biscuits for workmen in the street.

5zeds · 16/06/2022 18:36

Dh used to dig the trenches for pipes in the road. People often gave them tea/cold squash. I can’t tell you how grateful we were, we were living on pennies. They can say no thanks if they don’t want any.

LouLou789 · 16/06/2022 18:45

Am I the only one who is disappointed that this thread is about ice lollies?

Rubyupbeat · 16/06/2022 18:46

Very kind and thoughtful, do it.

Well if she'd offered them her Jubblies, this thread could've taken a very different turn.

notacooldad · 16/06/2022 14:32

It's weird you have to ask the internet.
It's a perfectly normal thing to do on a hot day- I mean offer something cool and refreshing.
I remember my mum taking ice pops out the brickies who were building a wall around 1974/75. Nothing odd.🤷‍♀️

Also thought the same. Why do you need to ask? Just do it if you felt that you wanted to Confused

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 16/06/2022 19:20

Thats a lovely gesture op.
DH works on the roads and loves it when the general public offer ice creams or cups of tea.
He and his colleagues usually get a load of abuse hurled at them.
You would not believe what some people are capable of doing when they are told the road they are wanting to travel on is closed and they will need to use the alternative route. Some people are vile, so it’s a nice change when someone like you offers something nice, I am sure they very much appreciated it.

Zwellers · 16/06/2022 19:45

Wierd. Why are you so invested in what random workmen that are nothing to do with you are doing. They arepaid to work, not eat ice cream.

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/06/2022 19:49

I hope you did.

also get some ear plugs

Zwellers · 16/06/2022 19:53

Also not saying you would but how would the workman be sure you hadn't poisoned the ice lolly. Or what if one was allergic

Witchcraftandhokum · 16/06/2022 19:55

A few years ago murder happened on our usually very quiet street. In the 3 weeks afterwards the perpetrator was still at large and we had police officers at each end of the street 24 hours a day. I used to get up at 5am to walk the dog and used to make them tea and coffee for what would be the last hour of their nightshift. They were extremely grateful.
