I know loads of people who now say it's their favourite holiday destination?

What's so lovely about it? Looks too hot to me? Can go above 45 weather wise!

I like the Canary Islands because the sun burns down but it has a cool breeze... a hidden gem if you hate sweltering heat

From pictures, it looks like a city like London that just has pools?

I have lost patience with all this bullshit but I did want to return and ask about all the oh they hate gays stuff. Islam, Catholics and probably some other religions have quite a lot to say about homosexuality. Obviously Islam is sneered at by MN because its a lot of rich brown people (because most are ignorant) but how do you justify not campaigning outside churches? How can you allow something younfond so disgusting to thrive in your country? Why are there not riots outside churches? And what's the difference about Islam? Obviously I have no idea about Judiasm but when I lived in North London I do remember women and girls not being allowed to go to school, drive or walk outside the house and garden unless taken by a man. I found that pretty disgusting yet you set up entire neighborhoods so they can enforce this. You really are a fuck up as a nation, you spend so much time being offended on behalf of others you forget how bloody stupid you sound and how you in fact are being offensive.

HRTQueen · 17/06/2022 08:27

Trouble is saying women from that country/Muslim women

Western Women according to some have a reputation as being promiscuous and have little respect for themselves. Do you agree with that ? I don’t I doubt you do so why the blanket statement on women from Muslim/Asian countries

For what it's worth I did campaign for same-sex marriage in the UK. But the Catholic Church don't make the laws in the UK. Gay people and same-sex couples have the same legal rights in the UK. Not true of Dubai. Religions can do what they want so long as it doesn't impact the law of the land.

But yeah we're a fuck up as a nation because... gay people have rights? Women have rights?

Yes you have made your misogyny and xenophobia very clear.

You can’t see the difference between a minority group which doesn’t make the law or run the country having a belief, as in the UK, and that belief being enshrined in law and upheld by the government, as in Dubai? You might need some help with your critical thinking.

No amount of ‘whataboutery’ is going to change the fact that human rights in your country are not the equivalent of those in others, and that people elsewhere are perfectly able to see that, and judge it. You can continue to believe that your way is ‘better’, but it doesn’t make you right.

Good grief! Take that chip off your shoulder before you fall over. How do you even know that people posting here are British? Anyway, I think we can all see, wherever we are from and whatever we read, that you’re not actually open to debating anything here, so I’ll just say have a nice day.

Ggg626262 · 17/06/2022 09:21

You are fundamentally incapable of acknowledging that any country you deem to be rubbish should be written off. You are fundamentally incapable of seeing how arrogant you are, thinking the UK is superior to everywhere else. You are standing in a glass house hurling stones at people who don't deserve it.

Never said the word rubbish.

As a gay person I do not like it when gay people are discriminated against. Is that hard to understand?

I criticise the UK plenty. 🤷🏻‍♀️

youlightupmyday · 17/06/2022 09:27

Having lived in both cultures I too find the stance on here ridiculous. There is the reality of life everywhere. UAE is an easy place to live and work. I do not need my ex husband's or father's permission to work. I often show my shoulders and leg, maybe not so much when i go shopping or into the office, but that's because I am sensitive to the local culture rather than it being enforced.

I have lived here a long time and one thing I have noticed is that change, from the inside is a real thing. I have seen Emirati women and their access to education, work and sports change incredibly in the time i have been here. I have Emirati friends, same as I have Argentian friends, Spanish friends, American friends, Japanese friends etc I have gay and straight friends here. One a very prominent business owner. Each culture has its patriarchal rules ( do not get me started on my UK boyfriend's mates views on women commentators in sport).

Also, laws here have changed. You can co habit legally, you can legally give birth when you aren't married. Both developments in the past couple of years. These broader changes have an impact on local culture. The laws maybe there but they are not indicative of the changing culture.

I have just had breakfast with a lady running a program from people in drug rehabilitation here. The law says death penalty ( well did til last month)... but here we are with rehab centres and prisons, that are aiming to rehabilitate.

Mercurial123 · 17/06/2022 09:32

To those saying Emirati women face no discrimination and face little difficulties are not helping those fighting for equality.

This is an interesting read.

Say what you like .,,, but the service you get there is no where comparable with the service you would get on a European holiday. It’s excellent.

That's because the service workers are akin to slaves and are fucking scared.

Scared but fake smiling.

Exactly. Give me a moody, stroppy Spanish waiter slamming a beer in front of me with a grunt any day. I prefer the service workers to feel like equals and real human beings, not slaves fawning over me in case they get beaten.

Is that for me? I haven’t said where I’m from, and I haven’t mentioned the UK once. That comparison keeps being made by you. You’re projecting. Anyway, I don’t wish to engage with his mad argument you seem to want to have with everyone else. Have a fun day.

And their stepmother initially said she would know about that if ot happened and wouldn't wouldn't a part of it ..... shortly after she fled to the UK, claimed diplomatic status, divorced the King, and had been been living in a London mansionwith a security detail that would make the US president's look extremely minimal.

LooseGoose22 · 17/06/2022 09:59

^^ that was in relation to the processes under house arrest and doped up (for nothing other than being female).

And ours are killed by paparazzi.

I am absolutely not saying that the UAE is a bastion to always admire. However, rich husbands are wankers everywhere. Anyone with too much power is a wanker, everywhere. But the tangible, real life experience is that this is definitely not Saudi, nor Afganistan etc and there is genuine change for the better happening in real time for the local population. For the non indigenous population, there is only a small impact of local norms, which is comparative to other countries, even in the UK.

Nahnanananahna · 17/06/2022 11:51

Bit confused whether we're still on Dubai or not but I can assure you I don't need my husband's permission to work. In fact, he needs my permission to work (unless he changes visa).

There are valid points where people might have issues with Dubai and what it is / what it stands for, but it doesn't help when people make up facts, or put forward 'facts' from unverified sources as truth.
