To think that children shouldn't be topless at softplay?

Kid here wearing a pair of shorts. AIBU to think it's just a bit odd?

The child is at least 7 if that makes a difference

Ummm, no it doesn't at all

coffeecupsandfairylights · 08/06/2022 15:49

When I was little, you had to wear long trousers, socks and long-sleeved tops in soft play - is that no longer the case?

I don't think it's weird or anything, but the idea of sliding around topless makes me wince - surely that would hurt?!

malmi · 08/06/2022 15:51

People describe something as "unnecessary" when they personally don't like it but can't or won't explain the underlying reason. Nothing is really truly "necessary" when you think about it. "Unnecessary" just means "unpleasant to me".

TheCatLives · 08/06/2022 15:51

Yuck. That is grim, and I know that some supermarkets don't allow it.

It is OK with me if other people go shopping in pyjamas, even though it is not something I would ever do.

I mean it doesn't bother me either - I suppose I was just making the point that a parent who wears pyjamas when going out is also likely to let their kid run around topless in a soft play because even if their child spilt something on their top, they weren't carrying a spare - i.e. lazy, unprepared and doesn't care about their own appearance

FlissyPaps · 08/06/2022 15:51

If it makes you uncomfortable OP, then guess what …. You don’t have to look!

TheCatLives · 08/06/2022 15:52

Referring to the poster who mentioned bare-chested men in supermarkets.

RedWingBoots · 08/06/2022 15:53

OP do you have an issue with young children's bodies?

Can you explain why it is "odd" that a child who hasn't yet reached puberty is wandering around with no top?

This level of judgement is pretty grim. 'Lazy' is a word I wouldn't use about someone I didn't know, personally.

Mintchocchip1 · 08/06/2022 15:55

I'd just be worried about friction burns down the slide but that's all really

Dancingwithhyenas · 08/06/2022 15:55

Meh - maybe spilt some drink/food so took it off. Maybe very hot, maybe some other reason.
I once had to push my toddler back home from a group (summer time) in just pants because he’d wet through the change of clothes and then had a meltdown (later diagnosed as autistic) about the spare clothes. No harm came. Things happen.

Spikeyball · 08/06/2022 15:56

The only issue here is friction burns.

Sally090807 · 08/06/2022 16:01

Was it a boy or a girl?

Lazy!? For not taking a spare change of clothes everywhere for a 7 year old...? 😂

It's your opinion about whom you would use the word 'lazy'.

My judgement is based on a parent who by default or without any meaningful reason allows their child to run around a soft play topless. The child in the situation that the OP has described might have a valid reason but personally, I would remove my child from the soft play is it meant they had to run around topless.

Not everywhere but certainly to a soft play where there is a risk of tears/rips

It is not lazy for another parent to simply do things differently to you - you are not the ultimate arbiter of clothing standards in the UK.

You're a judgemental one for sure.

Christ this is just not a thing that needs an online thread dissecting it 😂

From a safety POV it is not ideal. Don't these places advise kids to dress in long sleeves and legs? Bare skin would hurt I think.

But from a decency POV I think it's completely fine.

Giraffesandbottoms · 08/06/2022 16:13

I would be much more annoyed by parents keeping their shoes on or letting their children keep their shoes on. Which happens all the time.

Because some weirdos like to look at young children.

God grief. It's not odd. Why shouldn't they? You're odd for thinking it's odd.

Circleblue · 08/06/2022 16:15

OP: children shouldn’t be topless at soft play

OP: because it’s odd

OTHERS l: why do you have a problem with it?

OP: who says I have a problem with it

OTHERS: erm, you?

OP: yeah so what, maybe I do have a problem with it.

WTF?!!
