One of our customers came in last week and as he was waiting for his order we got chatting and it turns out he is an amazing opera singer. Looking at him you'd never think it. Think older gent, builder type.

Over the weekend I was somewhere that had a piano so I sat down and played something. Someone commented and said to me that they weren't surprised I could play the piano as I just looked like someone who could.

Is there something about your appearance that would give something away about you or not.

Not a judgy thread, please don't turn this into a bun fight.

Just a fun thread........hopefully.

@Discodreams I think you need to do an AMA - sounds like a very interesting life 💕.

A colleague once commented that he liked the fact that I dressed conservatively but underneath I wore fun socks. He said it reflected me, conservative on the surface but a fun person hiding underneath.

What sort of fun socks do you wear? Are they the sort that read, on one sole, if you can read this, and on the other, buy me a drink? Or Fuck on one and Off on the other? Or socks in bright primary colours with cartoon characters on?

I am very intrigued, working in a profession where one has to wear black socks, regardless of how much of a fun person one may be underneath.

I'm a very high level in a martial art. You would NEVER guess this by looking at me, not in a million years

As a student working in my local Asda, I also was on the receiving end of the assumptions that this was my lifelong job - but my fellow student, who was 4' 11" in her high heels, with curly blond hair & strong makeup, got it worse - until she explained she was 3 years into a medical degree.

Like a pp, I'm a black belt in martial arts - there's 4 of us 'martial arts mums' at our club, all over 50, not at all slim, but senior black belts. I can do the splits, and kick you in the head, but only if you're really rude to me! When I meet other veteran women at competitions, they all look 'ordinary' in day-to-day clothes, but usually turn into demons when fighting!

Several times today, I've had comments about things being heavy and to be careful lifting.
I don't understand whythey think I would volunteer to carry stuff if I wasn't strong enough to do so!
And I am rather strong.
I know I'm not really muscly, but i'm certainly not small - I'm 5ft8.
All men, as well. Like women can't be strong. Hmm

I’m not from the UK but have lived there for most of my life and went to high school in Scotland. I don’t live in Scotland now and peopltare always really surprised when it comes up in discussion (usually after they’ve worked with me for yonks) that I’m not in fact Scottish (or even a UK national).

Yes, I'm short and fat. I spend 2 hours a day in the gym. I'm love lifting. One of my kids teachers started going to my gym. When they saw me they commented how nice it was to see someone my "size" finally being health conscious. Thankfully my lifting partner spoke up and put her in her place.

Loving all the secret strongwomen! Aren't people thick to assume you can't be strong if you aren't ripped?! Good on you. Lift the naysayers up and put them outside next time 😆

I partied hard, did lots of things I shouldn't have. I have lots of friends. I now have a professional management job. I have had a really challenging life at times and raised my 3dc alone. People always comment on how emtionally strong and confident I am.
I'm not I have awful anxiety hate social gatherings , have chronic imposter syndrome. The only thing that keeps me alive is I have no choice I'm all my dc have. Sorry to bring the vibe down 😐

People often assume I don’t drink so I assume I don’t look very rock chick.
