Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

OP posts:

Agree with the comments about Cherie Blair , she is such a lovely person.

FayeGovan · 08/06/2022 09:57

Robbie Coltrane was friendly as was jim kerr from simple minds.

My dad was a journo back in the day and had a few opinions on this

Dolly Parton - absolutely charming and lovely and very intelligent (and tiny and gorgeous)
John Paul II - twinkly and humble
Bill Clinton - almost unbelievably charismatic, every head turned to look when he came into the room
Hillary Clinton-slightly intimidating but lovely
John Lennon - arrogant arsehole, but fair enough really 😁
George Best - total charmer, very intelligent and funny, but clearly troubled
Bob Geldof - arsehole
Van Morrison - massive arsehole
Daniel O'Donnell - loveliest most genuine men ever (despite his awful singing). He heard my dad was in hospital once and send him flowers and a hamper, so dad was biased a bit)
Lulu - arrogant since she was a teenager ( mum knew her too and agreed)
Jimmy Saville - sick, evil and avoid at all costs ( this was wayyyy before all the revelations about him)
Ian Paisley, very polite and religious and very tall
Bez - off his chops
Shane Magowan - also off his chops but lovely anyway (think he bought dad a pint).
Tommy Hilfiger - wonderful man, used to ring dad up for a chat every now and again and sent him a very generous Xmas present (they only met once I think)

I think the worst celeb I ever met was Keith Allen, WHAT a an arrogant tosser!

I have met the King of Spain, but didn't recognise him 🙈It's honestly one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, as he was standing next to the President of Portugal and I confused the two

many Brits wouldn't recognise them, they are hardly the British royal family who are never off the media.

ChrisReasBathEggs · 08/06/2022 09:56

Who was this?

Sorry ignore this - I have posted again by accident! I agree with pp that some people might be quite shy when not in front of the camera and come across badly, its the ones that do the whole 'do you not know who I am' thing and are really grandiose that are probably the most unpleasant people.

Can't help with rude stories but I've met Len Goodman a few times and he was always lovely. Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag both so friendly and gave lots of time for people.

Brendan Cole used to come in fairly regularly to the supermarket where I worked. He was also lovely as well.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 08/06/2022 10:01

I can't really think of any celebrities I've met, a few well know Scottish footballers who were pleasant and polite.

A family member met Bono at an airport years ago, they said he was very nice and had his photo taken with him. It was the days before Facebook etc.

mushroom3 · 08/06/2022 10:01

Rolf Harris, horrible, rude and arrogant
Gary Glitter, very weird and full of himself

Princess Diana and Prince Edward, both lovely

Hoppinggreen · 08/06/2022 10:04

Gregg Wallace - I actually told him not to use that tone with me, there was an audible gasp from his “people” and his jaw actually dropped.

John Noakes was very grumpy and borderline inappropriate

Haha that's reminded me of the video of Macron and Merkel talking to some members of the public, and a woman thinking Merkel was Macron's wife before it was explained she was the German chancellor

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/06/2022 10:05

I met Feargal Sharkey after a concert in the late 80s, when I was a child. I had a bag of Murray mints with me and, during the course of our chat, he noticed them and asked if he could have one - taking one when I said yes! He was great; very unassuming and genuine.

I met Cliff once (also as a child) and he was nice enough (although it didn't seem to come naturally to him), but I was with my Dad and it was a kind of low-level business transaction from which he (Cliff) stood to benefit financially and, more so, with good PR, so that could have influenced him.

I also met Dana (yet again, still as a child - me, not her) and she was very shy indeed, even though it was a public appearance/promotional situation. She was advertising soap at the time - really raving on screen about how much she loved it - and I innocently asked her if she really liked it that much and used it herself. She responded with great hesitation, in the way of somebody who didn't want to lie but also didn't want to admit the 'wrong' thing. Her husband (I think he was her manager) jumped in and looked daggers at both me and her, before insisting that she did, of course, use that soap as it was one of her absolute favourite products Hmm

It's sad that so many posts boil down to "X is a rude twat because s/he didn't greet me warmly in public." They're not at work; leave them alone. Such entitlement.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 08/06/2022 10:11

Sorry I just realised I mixed up Lulu and Dana!

katseyes7 · 08/06/2022 10:12

Someone asked about Liam Gallagher - I've met both him and Noel a few times (separately and together) and both were nice to me.
Liam is so down to earth, totally not the arrogant idiot he comes across as, he was very kind and friendly, bought us drinks and just joined in with the group we were in. Very funny and not arrogant at all.
I heard a tale (second or third hand) that on one occasion there was an old down at heel guy in a pub he was in, and he bought him drinks and cigarettes, saying "Well you never know, it might be Jesus...."

Noel seemed a bit full of his own importance. I suspect Liam trying to knock that out of him may have gone towards causing a lot of the upsets between them. Nice enough, but not as down to earth as Liam.
This was a few years ago, though. And l met their mam a few times, she's just lovely. Sent me a get well card and a lovely letter when l broke my ankle.

I agree. They are human beings and they can’t always be behaving like they would in front of an audience. If I saw someone famous in public I would respect their privacy. Exception was when we found John Humphrys in front of us in an airport queue and had a chat. He was nice and interesting.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/06/2022 10:15

Is he just very shy? He always comes across (to me) as so very insincere and uninterested whenever I've seen him on telly, like he's just going through the motions to keep the album sales ticking over nicely. I do hope he's actually nothing like Eoin McLove in reality!

AndrewPreview · 08/06/2022 10:16

It's nice to see Paul Daniels is generally seen as lovely, my dad bumped into him at a service station years ago and asked him where Debbie was (which I'm sure he was asked every single day) and they had a brief conversation and a chuckle about it.

Badbadbunny · 08/06/2022 10:18

Worst is definitely Noel Edmonds. I had the misfortune of dealing with him a few times when he was setting up the Morecambe "Blobbyland". He was absolutely full of his own self importance and definitely a contender for the worst "Do you know who I am?" trophy.

Close second would be Jane McDonald, completely nothing like her on-screen friendly persona. (Maybe she was having a bad day??).

Best ever was a randomly meeting Olivia Newton John in some toilets (at the height of her fame/success), she was absolutely lovely, a real/genuine "girl next door" - full of fun and full of life, even to random strangers. We were giggling like school girls.

ThreeApplesHigh · 08/06/2022 10:20

I haven't personally met him but Daniel O'Donnell was utterly lovely and did something very kind for a relative who has a learning disability and is a big fan.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/06/2022 10:22

Gregg Wallace - I actually told him not to use that tone with me, there was an audible gasp from his “people” and his jaw actually dropped.

Good for you! That reminds me of the story about the airport check-in assistant who had a celeb push to the front and use the old 'Don't you know who I am?' - and instantly grabbed the tannoy, making a loud appeal for the carer of the vulnerable, confused gentleman who 'doesn't know who he is' Grin

VapeVamp12 · 08/06/2022 10:23

Interesting that the global superstars (Clooney, Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, etc) all seem to have been really nice and it's the Z list / reality or TV presenters who think they're gods gift!

romatheroamer · 08/06/2022 10:24

On politicians, I was standing next to Caroline Spelman waiting for a tube train in rush hour, recognised her and started to chat....she was really charming and friendly. It was time there was a lot of hoo-ha over brexit votes. Said she was standing down because sick of the abuse and misogyny.
On the other hand, I'm not sure I'd want to meet any of the present cabinet!

honeylulu · 08/06/2022 10:24

I met Romesh Ranganathan at a family friendly festival and he was lovely, really down to earth and nicest when I said I'd enjoyed his set. He actually came over to me as he saw I was exasperated with my 2 year old who was obsessed with chasing after people's dogs and trying to grab them, so I seemed to spend most of the time chasing after her. He was empathising about how exhausting toddlers are!

Keith Vaz was very smarmy and oily (as I had expected).

My husband knew Pete Burns when he lived in Liverpool many years ago. Not rude but seemed to intimidate people with his presence. This was before he was properly famous although he was something of a local celebrity.

VapeVamp12 · 08/06/2022 10:24

Christopher Biggins, Tom Daley, Robson Green - all super nice and chatty :)

He does comes over a bit weird on TV doesn't he? But I know loads of people who have met him IRL and he is apparently genuinely lovely. He used to have an annual meet and greet for the fans at his house every year, fans would queue up to meet him and his wife and mammy and have a wee cup of tea in his garden. He knows all his superfans by name and always asks after their family by name tooetc. So if he is an Eoin McLove he works hard at hiding it! 😁
