Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

Apparently Johnson has just said that he would (reference partygate) "do it again" to the 1922 committee.

Asked about his conduct in the Sue Gray report, Johnson has a rare moment of honesty and tells MPs “I’d do it again.”

Manekinek0 · 06/06/2022 17:03

I don't think what happens tonight matters. Who would take his place? Sunaks public image has done a 180 since boris someone leaked his wife's non dom status to the press. Sajid Javid is the only one of the front runners who is at all likeable IMO but he was a remain campaigner and many it seems still want to flog a dead horse and get Brexit done.

Ireolu · 06/06/2022 17:03

I shudder at him being replaced by Jeremy Hunt. Not a single one of them is fit for purpose...

Lonelycrab · 06/06/2022 17:04

If the Tories get rid of the corruption plus the Britania Unchained mob, they might win the next election

I think that’s pretty close to the truth, and perhaps this is the only way for them to stay in power. If the MPs voting tonight realise this, then I’m not so sure he will win later on, at least not as sure as I was this morning.

Ireolu · 06/06/2022 17:04

Unfortunately I think he will win and stay for now.

newnamethanks · 06/06/2022 17:09

What Nadine? The Russian money being withdrawn? Other dodgy foreign money too? Well that's a tragedy isn't it. Where else can they buy the amount of influence they've achieved here? I wouldn't worry too much about it, I can't finish this sentence it's libellous.

Save Boris!
thecritic.co.uk/boris-is-no-joke-hes-a-way-of-life/

"When you joined the Conservative Party, was it because you believed in stable administration, lasting institutions, the importance of personal responsibility, and other yawn-worthy ideas, or because you wanted to recreate the experience of dropping acid on a rollercoaster, but this time in government?

What kind of Cabinet do you want? The kind of tedious gang where Jeremy Wright is happy to be Attorney General and Tom Tugendhat is Foreign Secretary, going off and having yawn-worthy meetings with grey-suited foreigners, or one that resembles a clown car on fire, where Priti Patel is in charge of national security and Jacob Rees-Mogg is treated as an intellectual?"

Johnson has reportedly told wavering MPs that Zelensky said this morning he wanted 'a strong UK', which is pretty shameless as far as preservation tactics go.

Not sure that that's necessarily the personal endorsement that Boris would like to think it is.

Blossomtoes · 06/06/2022 17:32

Slinkymalinky03 · 06/06/2022 10:40

Luckily his removal will mean the likes of Patel, Rees-Mogg, Francois and Dories will never work again.

They'll all walk into highly paid jobs/consultancy roles immediately.

I very much doubt that. What have they got to offer? None of them would even have influential connections.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/06/2022 10:23

The irony is that Theresa May was more impressive than Johnson on every metric imaginable

I agree. She was only the second worst PM the UK has ever had.

Yes even though she threw her majority away, she still looks good at the side of him and at least she had integrity and didn't tell blatant lies.

Wonder how she'll vote tonight? If I was her I'd be laughing all the way to the ballot box. Grin

glitterfairy88 · 06/06/2022 17:46

I agree with you. They won't have the backbone to vote him out because there isn't a strong leadership challenger / obvious choice. I think the booing hit home with a number of MPs, but they will keep him in so they can try and build up confidence as a "strong and stable" party. A general election would definitely oust the Tories.

tobee · 06/06/2022 17:54

I've only just seen that GB says result at 9pm. Blimey! That's a long time to wait. I thought they said 7 initially

balalake · 06/06/2022 18:01

It seems that in the unlikely event of Mr Johnson losing the confidence vote, a number of Tory MPs will have lied about their intentions. Liars getting rid of a liar as it were.

Shit floats and he's a huge floppy haired turd that simply just won't flush.

Have emailed my MP but he's a spineless arsekisser.

Well according to Nadine Dorries on the news just now we’re also at war with Ukraine too😂

Is it just that her geography is poor and she doesn't know which country is which, or is she just thick?

Do I even need to ask.

Biscuitsneeded · 06/06/2022 18:48

"Well according to Nadine Dorries on the news just now we’re also at war with Ukraine too😂"

Oh bless you Nazzer, is the old 'dyslexia' that prevents you understanding facts bothering you again?

I’ve just emailed my MP (conservative) I think if you have a conservative MP you should email them today and voice your opinion.
I think they’ll notice the volume of inbox and that has to hold some sway.

www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-an-mp-or-lord/contact-your-mp/

Absolutely no point emailing my MP as she has an eye on a ministerial appointment, preferably Home Secretary. Which means she has licked Boris’s arse regardless from day one and will only change tack once Boris has lost power. She won’t do anything to actively make that happen though. Amoral and utterly self-serving like many in the Tory party, which is why we’re in the mess we’re in.

Alexandra2001 · 06/06/2022 19:22

Over 65's supporting Boris... i wonder if thats the cut off point for early onset?

I think BJ will lose....

SpindleInTheWind · 06/06/2022 19:24

I see Penny Mordaunt can’t attend the vote. Convenient.

This over 65 isn’t.

I don't think it's an either/or situation.

BorisJohnsonatemyhampster · 06/06/2022 19:43

‘If the Tories get rid of the corruption plus the Britania Unchained mob, they might win the next election’

This is exactly the only way they can win the next election. The problem is they are in a bind because he filled the cabinet with Britannia Unchained Brexiteers and many of the MPs are of the same type. They got rid of the moderates. They have no ideological diversity so the whole lot of them would need to be cleared out and the moderates and traditional conservatives like Anna Soubry, Ken Clarke et al would need to be brought back.

They mortgaged their future in trying to appeal to a certain ‘type’ of electorate who don’t align with traditional Conservatives who aren’t interested in culture wars. Traditional conservatives are aspirational and just want a well run economy (which they have a stake in) and want sensible sounding people in charge not people screaming about ‘woke’ who think a Blue Passport is a fair exchange for trashing our economy and becoming an international laughing stock with a reputation for corruption and being untrustworthy.
