"If he got a majority of one, that's enough to move on," says Nadine Dorries.

I'm amazed Boris's supporters haven't kidnapped her and locked her up somewhere well away from any and every media source. Surely they've noticed that her support is losing them votes?

It really comes down to a simple choice for the Conservatives. Do they a) keep him as leader and risk losing the votes of the people, or, b) get rid and hopefully restore some faith in the party? As long as he is in charge, the floating voters will be lost and a large % of their usual voters. At least that's what I think anyway.

The Barclay brothers at the Telegraph agree with you that, he is no longer an electoral asset.

AmaryIlis · 06/06/2022 16:04

Do the rebel Tory MPs really think that people voted for THEM??? I mean seriously they stand NO chance of being reelected - and they know it.

The thing is that many of them, particularly the Red Wall MPs, know that they stand no chance of being re-elected if Johnson stays in power. So getting rid of him is the only way of improving their chances.

We have covid
We have Monkey pox
We have a war in Europe
We have Russians threatening nuclear war and to nuke us personally
We have a cost of living crisis spiralling out of control
We have so many problems I can't even be bothered to list

And hey lets just throw in an election and put a bomb under the government, what great timing given Labour is also in disarray.

This is a remain plot for sure. Tobias is all over it like a cheap rash.

We managed a change of regime when we were about to be driven out of Europe and to be invaded. We coped then, in fact it all went rather well. We would cope now.

That cohort have a dilemma on their hands. They know they owe their 2019 wins to the appeal that Johnson then had to a certain type of voter. They also know that he's lost popularity with that certain type of voter now and they'll lose their seats as things stand. It's an unlovely choice for them. Personally I'm enjoying every moment of it.

Then there's also the Blue Wall issue. Johnson's antics really haven't gone down well with part of the traditional base. They were willing to hold their noses in 2019 because they didn't like Corbyn, but that's not going to save the Tories this time round.

Yes we have all of those very serious concerns which is why we need our government to be led by someone is interested in tackling those issues, rather than just being concerned about his popularity.

This has nothing to do with some mythical remain plot. It's to do with him and his completely unacceptable behaviour.

Johnson has reportedly told wavering MPs that Zelensky said this morning he wanted 'a strong UK', which is pretty shameless as far as preservation tactics go.

TheLadyDIdGood · 06/06/2022 16:22

I think it might be an idea for mnetters to either infiltrate an existing party or create their own and stand for the next election. There is a lot more realistic and intelligent debate and understanding here than currently in Parliament.

LastMinuteBreak · 06/06/2022 16:22

Unfortunately, I think this is probably the case.

I would urge you all to call/email/tweet your Tory MPs if you have one to make your feelings known.

tobee · 06/06/2022 16:23

Not read the full thread but would today's Conservative party vote in as leader a candidate who was not 100% white?

I'd love to, but the last we, his constituents, heard he was in rehab so don't think we'll get much support from him.

It's an interesting question. Worth pointing out that it wouldn't necessarily have to go to the party. There could be a situation like in 2016 or 2003 when the MPs decided it amongst themselves. That would require an overwhelming favourite to rally around though, which doesn't exist at the moment.

newnamethanks · 06/06/2022 16:34

A Remain Plot? Oh silly me, of course it is. The last resort of the desperate. And no, today's Conservative Party would not tolerate a leader from a ethnic minority. They may try to look as if they're inclusive and colour blind but not a chance that would happen. Er Brexit. Migrants. Rwanda. As if.

Pipsquiggle · 06/06/2022 16:38

It's all about staying in power for the Tories. They have always placed that over doing what's right for the country.

Well it is the logical conclusion, I mean what else are remainers doing in UKIP if not plotting the demise of the greatest kipper of them all Boris Johnson?

That's absolutely repugnant. Hopefully that'll sway them to vote against him.

Yes, our Boris will be successful, besides better the devil we know, that the potential unknown,

Well according to Nadine Dorries on the news just now we’re also at war with Ukraine too😂

This is why I've said from the start that the single and only reason they'd jettison Boris is if they think their own positions are threatened because of him

Principle, decency, respect for the law - as with too many politicians it all comes second place to self interest

LexMitior · 06/06/2022 16:44

It will be a useless victory as his party will be shown to be divided. Lets say he gets more than 100 MPs voting against him - he is finished as a political force, no operating majority, no discipline by Whips, he is just over.

And even then, he will not solve his base problem, which is a third of his own voters want him to go. That is a huge issue, which will just become a bigger and bigger issue the longer he stays if he does not win by elections (looking to lose two within the next few weeks) where every poll indicates he is now not an asset but a liability.

I don't see why not.

As long as they are the 'right kind' of not 100% white i.e are posh, wealthy, male, have English as a first language and an anglicised or not too 'foreign' name of course.

The party does have a lot of foreign names so not too bad on that front

who the public would vote is another question, hard to gauge

we’ve had women PM x 2

PestorPeston · 06/06/2022 16:58

Nadine Dorries saying that Tory donors, giving over £80 MILLION to the party ‘have spoken ‘ and will withdraw their money if Johnson goes.

Dorries inadvertently tells the truth again . Neither Johnson or Conservatives are running the UK - undisclosed donors are.

If the Tories get rid of the corruption plus the Britania Unchained mob, they might win the next election.

And I believe has "vowed" to make a tax cut. Unclear whose taxes will be cut.
