Spineless MPs….then he’ll limp along doing even more attention seeking stunts.

Its a secret vote isn't it? Which means people can say publicly they support him but privately vote against him?

I think it’s private from the public but not the party itself (I think the 1922 committee have visibility?). I’m not sure tbh.

I wouldn’t be confident of renaming anonymous with this current lot myself - leakier than a sieve broken in half.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/06/2022 13:34

As long as it is not lockdown lover Hunt to replace him

Or Jacob Rees Mogg ... doesn't bear thinking about Hmm

The tories may well win another GE with a different leader , it's happened before.

There is some polling done in the red wall seats the Cons won, that suggests (in a GE) Labour will get most back if BJ stays but will keep them if he is replaced as Starmer is simply not liked.

Not sure why other than the tory press doesn't like him either.

JenniferAlisonPhilipaSue · 06/06/2022 13:40

do they need to be present to vote or can they do it remotely? I'm just thinking of all the Tory MPs who will have to find a way to London quickly.

Volterra · 06/06/2022 13:42

I think Ellwood is positioning himself for leader but with a view to further the line . He’ll have pissed of the Brexiteer element with his recent article.

I’m laughing at John Penrose resigning as Johnson’s anti corruption Tsar - he’s married to Dido Harding who spearheaded Test and Trace, no irony there whatsoever 😀 It sums up the Johnson era though really.

Notonthestairs · 06/06/2022 13:44

They can appoint a proxy. That's what the MP under investigation for sexual offences will have to do as he is barred from the estate (but can still vote!)

Jajana · 06/06/2022 13:59

I think he will win but with a very fine margin. Would love to see May return if I’m honest.

vera99 · 06/06/2022 14:10

Cold War Steve - brilliant as ever.....

LexMitior · 06/06/2022 14:11

Well they should get rid of him because on the current polling there are a third of Conservative voters who want him to go. That's a vote that will be staying at home or transferring out to other parties if they don't address that, they are screwed. What is the point of the Red Wall vote if the cost is that you lose the core of your vote and then lose in a different way?

Many old school Tories (I don't mean red wall converts) really, really dislike him. His lack of integrity bothers them, and his lack of concern about that also bothers them. Tories do like to look moral, and Johnson looks amoral at best.

MelonsMelonsMelons · 06/06/2022 14:11

Just heard reports that some MPs who intended to vote for Boris are considering not doing so after seeing Nadine Dorries’ Twitter attack on Jeremy Hunt.

With friends like her, who needs enemies?

WorriedMutha · 06/06/2022 14:16

Popcorn time. Most punters are agreed that he will win but I hope that he loses by a margin that puts him in the danger zone. I would like him to suffer months of internal bickering and sniping and for the different factions to start jockeying for position as their precious Brexit is threatened by the NIP.
There's no doubt that Hunt and Ellwood would be steering them towards a sensible accommodation with the EU to smooth out the difficulties which will inevitably mean we are more closely aligned. The Brexit headbangers would be spitting feathers.
This vote will not put a line under anything.
Most of all Johnson shat the bed and royally fucked this country up. I don't want him to fuck off into the sunset like Cameron. I want him to clean up his mess.

Anon778833 · 06/06/2022 14:20

You’re right. But if they are spineless, and back him, the Tory party is finished. Which would be equally good as not having to see his ridiculous face day in day out.

Agree

"If he got a majority of one, that's enough to move on," says Nadine Dorries.

She didn’t? Did she?

(I can’t judge anything in this world anymore - I’m not convinced the hadron collider didn’t mess with our time line )

I think he will win but with a very fine margin. Would love to see May return if I’m honest.

There’s a couple of tories I’d like to see make a comeback (even rejoin the party) even though I don’t wholly agree with their politics. They’ve proved themselves as decent people with Integrity over their stance on Boris and his cabinet.

I do hope May is enjoying the schaudenfraude.

NotDavidTennant · 06/06/2022 14:43

I think he'll win, but the winning margin will be so low that he won't be able to continue.

No chance of that, other Tories hate him too.

Hahaha - in the latest news, the government has announced that it will dissolve the people and elect a new one, as the government has lost faith in the people.

Apart from obvious situations, like Thatcher being booed in Sheffield during the miners’ strike, can anyone remember a prime minister being booed at a public event before? I think this weekend showed what an embarrassment he is.

All leading politicians get booed - some by there own "supporters". It is almost a national sport.
So far we have:
Blair booed by the Women's Institute in 2000
Brown booed by the music industry at the Hall of Fame Awards in 2006
Osborne booed at the 2012 Olympics
May booed at the 2012 Paralympics
Ed Miliband booed at a TUC rally in 2012
Cameron booed at Wimbledon after Murray's victory in 2016
May booed on a visit to Northumberland in 2017
Corbyn booed at the British Kebab Awards in 2020 (note to self - must resist donor puns)

jcyclops · 06/06/2022 14:51

I bet that government whips, knowing how stupid she is, are spending hours with Nadine Dorries making sure she doesn't accidentally tick the wrong box

PestorPeston · 06/06/2022 14:53

If he loses the vote tonight, he will call a snap election to prove the public love him.
Rumours already about GE prep.
FTP was repealed on 24th March this year.

His actions will be in his best interest, no the best interest of party or country.

Swayingpalmtrees · 06/06/2022 14:55

Jesus

Hahaha - in the latest news, the government has announced that it will dissolve the people and elect a new one, as the government has lost faith in the people

So we could end up with an election! And if Starmer gets fined in the next day or two, we could end up heading to the polls without a Labour leader in place.

Do the rebel Tory MPs really think that people voted for THEM??? I mean seriously they stand NO chance of being reelected - and they know it.

So this is the cabinet turning the thumbscrews. Now the MPs have to choose between being in government at all (and stand to lose) or having Boris Johnson.

Wow this is heating up.

This. There is no way he will resign. He will do a huge amount of damage to his fellow Conservatives in order to keep his ego happy. He's already done quite a lot anyway, but it will be an inglorious end, he will never quit, so he's daring them to try and cut the rope or be pulled over with them. He isn't forever, and its a mistake for him to think he's so significant that he's bigger than his own party.
