Booing Boris. AIBU to say he deserved it?

I'm not a boo-er, it doesn't come naturally to me. Yet thinking of the photo of the queen, alone, at her husband's funeral contrasted with his snivelling 'apology' for tolerating depraved behaviour in his workplace together with his other contemptuous behaviour over the course of parliament, I'd have found it hard to resist. His presence just seems like adding more insult to injury.

Booed again

And before the 2019 election - he still won an 80 seat majority;

Have to laugh when Johnson's fan club come and c and p evidence of all the times he was booed.

So the defence of why he was booed quite loudly during a jubilee event celebrating the queen is that it's not the only time.

🤦🏼‍♀️🤣🤷‍♀️

I'd prefer evidence that he's still considered the best leader of the country and he's doing amazing job for us domestically and internationally.

But so far I've only seen payers post evidence to the contrary of this.

Just for Clav

I know that opinion polls are just a snapshot, small sample and all that....

www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/politics/conservatives-set-for-big-by-election-defeat-in-wakefield-polling-suggests-3720155

The Wakefield constituency polling by JL Partners and reported in The Sunday Times is likely to make for anxious reading for Tory campaigners, with the company putting Labour on 48 points compared with 28 points for Mr Johnson’s party.

This is the actual author of the poem. A British children's author.

More left wing journalists trying to make something out of nothing.

Are the Tories hoping for or against Starmer getting a FPN, I wonder? It is not good for the Tories either way, really.

If as rumour has it the vote of no confidence in Johnson is announced this week, then actually Starmer if he were to get an FPN, would resign, but Johnson would already be gone, so it might not be quite as bad for the Tories.

@Clavinova Any chance you could cut and paste the latest opinion polling in Wakefield and explain to us what it says about the upcoming by-election?

the80sweregreat · 05/06/2022 12:04

Would be ironic if Kier Starmer has to resign over a fine and Boris Johnson were to win a vote of no confidence.
Might be an interesting week ahead and the jubilee will be long forgotten.

I know that opinion polls are just a snapshot, small sample and all that...

I prefer this poll - not bad for mid-term, including a difficult few months;

@ BritainElects
May 29
Westminster voting intention:
LAB: 36% (-1)
CON: 33% (-1)
LDEM: 11% (-1)
GRN: 8% (+1)

For those who might not remember, Thatcher won a vote of no confidence but resigned.

ClaudineClare · 05/06/2022 12:14

Theresa May never properly recovered from her confidence vote either. Her authority was shot. Johnson might survive a vote, but he will be a dead man walking.

If it is not bad for mid-term, what do you think Boris and his merry band are going to do to change things around?

It might be good to have a shake up in leadership for both parties.

Any chance you could cut and paste the latest opinion polling in Wakefield and explain to us what it says about the upcoming by-election?

Just looked - some of the top issues here:

Of the following, what are the most important issues for you in deciding who to vote for at the by-election? (I have omitted issues scoring below 4):

The cost of living 38
The NHS and the hospital 15
The economy 10
Controlling immigration 7
Trust in politics 5
Brexit and leaving the European Union 4
Crime and policing 4
The environment 4

Volterra · 05/06/2022 12:23

I think both parties need a good shake up. Contrary to the belief that some posters on here seem to have that if you don’t like the Tories you are a Labour supporter, a lot of us are politically homeless and very despondent about the abysmal state of British politics.

The whole system is broken, how are we in a situation where your vote in a general election doesn’t make a difference in some places? Why is Parliament so adversarial - physically split into 2 halves with both sides jeering and heckling at each other ? I would be disgusted if my DC behaved like that but apparently it is acceptable behaviour from our elected leaders. It is a complete shit show and let’s us down very badly.

Why do we accept this?

ClaudineClare · 05/06/2022 12:24

Interesting the cost of living is highest. Well - not really because it should be.

But considering the Tory's were told to vote against Labours windfall tax one week and they implemented it the following week it'll be interesting to see if people vote for the party that created the suggestion or the one who begrudgingly implemented it to save face

SleeplessInEngland · 05/06/2022 12:25

Wakefield will be a thrashing. The question is just how much longer Tory denial can go on for. I suspect Labour’s ideal scenario is Johnson just barely winning a confidence vote.

cakeorwine · 05/06/2022 12:25

The latest opinion polling @Clavinova seeing as you forgot to post it

A survey by JL Partners and reported in the Sunday Times gives Labour a 20-point lead over the Tories in the Yorkshire constituency.
The poll puts Labour on 48% and the Tories on 28%, down by 19 points

ClaudineClare · 05/06/2022 12:26

Volterra I don't think anything will change while we have a FPTP electoral system.
