WTF has happened to ice cream?

Felt the need so popped in to Waitrose for a little tub.

tubs of low calorie - what’s the point of that in ice cream?
Or rhubarb and pineapple or ginger and galangal.
Or £8 for a jar of artisan gelato shite.
Yogurt! Frozen!
plant based vegan shit.
even the haagen daazy was stupid flavours and didn’t Appeal. So unfair. I just want a tub of proper nice ice cream. Made from sugar and dairy.

ended up with a tub of Yeo valley mint choc chip and it is frankly a disappointment and tastes sandy.

@Blossomtoes Haha yes it's beautiful. My favourite is the Parline pecan delight; I literally can't speak while eating it 😂

You used to be able to get coconut ice cream in some big Tescos. That was simple but effective and absolutely delicious. I maintain that cookie dough or cakey bits have no place in ice cream.

I was just talking about icecream in general. Probably a sort of imaginary 'nice chocolate icecream'. A Platonic ideal of chocolate icecream.

I haven't actually tried other supermarket icecreams, maybe this calls for some kind of supermarket crawl in which I get to taste test them all one after the other.

I'm doing a thorough check of all of the supermarket ones, we can combine it with the longitudinal study on the efficacy of a pure gelatinous diet.

We'll need a control. Who volunteers to not eat icecream for a whole week to see what happens?

M and S do some nice flavours .Their Chocolate one is nice .Also love Cornish Ice Cream (Walls is the best) So many places seem to view Ice Cream as some sort of health kick now (just wrong ,for so many reasons!) BBC Good Food have some nice recipes .The No Churn Ice Cream doesnt require an Ice Cream maker and I think I will give it a try!

Another enforcement for Mackies. The nicest ice cream and reminds me of ice cream I had as a child. However I quite like a dairy flake McFlurry. I don't like weird flavour ice cream, I prefer vanilla and strawberry.

Maybe someone else could just eat vegan icecream, to be the placebo? I can't, because I'm already committed to doing the fat/cream/sugar ones obvs.

Really? Do you not understand the point I was trying to make? Companies are selling something that doesn’t legally qualify as ice cream in very similar packaging to the ice cream. also cream tastes better than whatever thickening agent they have chosen to use.

Haha yes @MagnoliaTaint a great idea! The supermarkets should quite rightly give samples for free aswell since a taste tasting service is doing them a favour! I agree ben and Jerry's is disgusting and I don't even recognise it from when it first came out. The last tub we bought went in the bin and we never bought it again.

We can take turns, Blossomtoes, that would be fair. Only the job might get progressively harder as the week wears on ...

@dottiedodah exactly! If I'm going to indulge I want to do it properly with the real thing or what is the point! I am very fortunate to not have any allergies/intolerances to diary so bring on cream & sugar (just for a rare treat though).

It depends on how you think I suppose. I don’t think wanting the ‘real thing’ and wanting certain tastes is more important than animals. To me, minimising my part in animal exploitation takes priority.
