DH had both parents alive when he was 55.

motogirl · 31/05/2022 07:44

My kids only lost their great grandparents recently (to covid but had lots of health problems) they were in the 90's so exh had grandparents at 50

Sgtmajormummy · 31/05/2022 07:45

I’m the youngest of four siblings. Our parents died when the other three were over 55 years old.

CounsellorTroi · 31/05/2022 07:54

DH had both parents until he was 59.

Spidey66 · 31/05/2022 08:00

Both mine had died by the time I was 44, and they were young parents. My dad was 56 and my mum 67. My mum had both parents alive till she was about 59 or 60ish though.

WisteriaHysteria22 · 31/05/2022 08:02

My Granny is still pootling on, Grandad passed away but only 4 years ago, my Mum was 62 when he passed away.

Norgie · 31/05/2022 08:06

My parents are still alive and sprightly with zero health / mobility problems. They're in their nineties and always busy doing something or travelling.
I'm 59.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 31/05/2022 08:37

My parents were still alive when I was 55. My mother died a couple of months after my 55th birthday. She was 87. My father died last year at the age of 92.

Darkstar4855 · 31/05/2022 08:40

I know someone aged 67 whose parents are both alive and well enough to still be living in their own home without needing carers.

StarCourt · 31/05/2022 09:00

My dad is 79 and his dad is still alive, 103 and living on his own a few health issues but nothing awful

riesenrad · 31/05/2022 09:00

Not me, my father died 6 years ago, but a friend who is 59 has both parents alive and they are well enough to do trips as well - they went to Edinburgh together a few weeks ago (from Kent). People used to have kids much earlier than they do now. My mum was 33 when she had me and was considered geriatric - most of the mums at my primary school were between 21 and 25 when they had my classmates. So if you are 55 and your mum was 25 when she had you she'd only be 80 now.

That bodes well for you!

notacooldad · 31/05/2022 09:04

Yes. I'm 57 and both parents alive and kicking. They are very active. They holiday every other month, eat out a lot with friends, mum likes her vodka and lemonade! My dad is into his fitness and takes his cycling seriously.
Both are up to date with current trends and fashions as well as knowing whose who in the music scene.
Dad is 80 mum is meatly 82.

VanCleefArpels · 31/05/2022 09:04

Yes - but mine married as teens so are relatively young

mamaduckbone · 31/05/2022 09:06

My mum is 90 this year. I was a late baby so only in my 40s but my brother and sister are over 60.

Apollonia1 · 31/05/2022 09:07

I'm 50, but my siblings are mid-50s, and we have both our parents (92/93).
They live at home independently. My mum is healthy and sharp as a tack. My dad is starting to ail a bit.

Hornicorn · 31/05/2022 09:09

My parents are coming up to 59 and 60 and both of their parents are still alive. All about age 85

MercyChant66 · 31/05/2022 09:26

Lovely to hear that so many of you still have your parents. I lost my Mum when I was 9 and my Dad died last year. My last Grandparent died 24 years ago. I'm 56 and it feels lonely sometimes.

Bumpsadaisie · 31/05/2022 09:39

When I'm 55 they'll be 85 and 82 and I hope still with us.

JaceLancs · 31/05/2022 09:43

At 55 I had both parents although DF was 93
I’m now 58 and sadly just got DM

zingally · 31/05/2022 10:20

I'm 37 and haven't done very well with this!

All of my grandparents were gone by the time I was 22, and 2 of them while I was still a child (9 and 11 I think).
My dad went very unexpectedly when he was 62 and I was 32.
My mum is still going really well and is 67. But her parents were both dead by 75, so I'm very aware that we might not have aaaaages left together.

Saying that though, all great grandparents lived WELL into their 80s and 90s, so maybe there's some hope there!

lechatestsurlemat · 31/05/2022 10:27

My DM has got 3 children over 55. grand children in their late 30s, plus a gaggle of great grand children

MountainClimber22 · 31/05/2022 10:34

53 and 63 year old sisters with siblings in-between and parents are 87 and 84

Norgie · 31/05/2022 10:35

@riesenrad I hope so. So far, so good 👍

lechatestsurlemat · 31/05/2022 10:35

She remembers getting a silver jubilee crown for George V silver jubilee from her uncle in 1935.
