A couple of my friends aged 55+ but not many of them!
i do know a 72 year old whose mother is still alive in her mid-90s.

KohlaParasaurus · 30/05/2022 14:37

Yes, late fifties, and I have two living parents, both in their early eighties and with a couple of health issues each but with no dementia and living independently, driving, using modern technology, and grumbling about the cost of travel insurance. I have two cousins in their early sixties, siblings, whose octogenarian parents could well outlive them.

Carpediem15 · 30/05/2022 14:39

My Son. 👆

mast0650 · 30/05/2022 14:43

My mum had both parents alive and in good health until she was about 60. Sadly she died herself aged 66 (my grandmother outlived her). My BIL is 62(3?) and both his parents are alive.

I do know a few other people. Not all that many, but that's largely because most of my friends are under 55 and with acquaintances, colleagues etc it is hard to be sure either of age or parents!

I'm 50 and there has been a huge change just in the last 2-3 years. Previously most of my friends my age still had both parents living. Now it the minority I think. Most have one parent still alive.

Ringmaster27 · 30/05/2022 14:44

My mum is 56, the youngest of 5 siblings and still has both of her parents.
They got married very young (16 & 17) and had children straight away - my eldest aunt was a “honeymoon baby” in the early 1950’s 🙈

MermaidSwimming · 30/05/2022 14:45

Dm has both parents, she is 65 dgp are 88/89

Furrydogmum · 30/05/2022 14:50

My FIL was 75 when he lost his mum, she was 95.

Benjispruce4 · 30/05/2022 14:53

I’m 51. DM died at 74 when I was 44. DF still alive at 82.
I work with someone who is 63 and her DM is still alive and well. Very jealous.

DefiniteTortoise · 30/05/2022 14:55

I was wondering this recently - found a statistic saying that approximately 34% of 40 year old have lost at least one parent. Will try and find it.

fussychica · 30/05/2022 14:56

My neighbour is my age, 65, both his parents are still alive and live independently. I'm jealous, my mum died at 76 when I was 50 and my dad, suddenly at 84 when I was 55. Still miss them.

American link but still of interest!

EmeraldShamrock1 · 30/05/2022 14:59

Unfortunately not for me.

Most of my friends have a living parent in their 40's.

My neighbours are 90 and 91, the eldest DS never moved out he is 71.

It's difficult on their DC who have their own grandchildren someone has to be stay over most nights, the youngest child is 62.

A580Hojas · 30/05/2022 15:03

My dh is nearly 58 and his Mum (75) and Dad (80) are still with us.

Yes, they had him very young!

Witchcraftandhokum · 30/05/2022 15:03

My mother is 74 and has both parents alive. They are 100 and 99.

ethelredonagoodday · 30/05/2022 15:03

Up until earlier this year, my grandma and grandad were both still alive, and my dad and siblings range from 63 to 68 years of age!

BuwchGochGota · 30/05/2022 15:08

My inlaws are still alive (and well) in their 80s. DH is over 55.

I'm not over 55 but my brother and sister are and our DM is alive and well too. My DM was 54 when she lost her DM and 61 when she lost her DF.

nokidshere · 30/05/2022 15:20

There are 6 of us, oldest 62, youngest 55 and our mum is about to turn 80 this year. Dad may or may not have been alive today if he hadn't died in an accident in his 30's

MIL died 5yrs ago when she was 96 and DH was 65

Witchcraftandhokum · 30/05/2022 15:22

Although my grand mother would have a fit if she knew I was on here talking about her age. She stopped counting at 80, and gets very embarrassed at every birthday my mother celebrates!

funinthesun19 · 30/05/2022 15:22

My mum (56) had both parents alive until early this year when my lovely grandma passed away suddenly in February aged 81.

Abra1d1 · 30/05/2022 15:22

Both mine were alive when I was 56.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 30/05/2022 15:23

DH's oldest sister is in her mid-fifties, and both IL's are still fit and well in their late seventies.

cptartapp · 30/05/2022 15:24

My DM was 66 and still had both her parents. She had her DM until she was 68, then my GM died and my DM was killed only six months later.

Journey2TheMoon · 30/05/2022 15:24

My grandparents. My mum is mid 50s and grandparents mid 70s. They were young when they had her.

AnyFucker · 30/05/2022 15:24

Me

My dad is terminally ill though. My mum has a few more years yet.

DwightShrutesgirlfriend · 30/05/2022 15:28

Onlyhuman123 · 30/05/2022 12:52

yes. both mine...well DM is on palliative care but both alive.

I'm in exactly the same situation as @Onlyhuman123. My parents were teenagers when they had me and I was lucky enough to have my grandparents until I was 45.
