She ra!

Workyticket · 29/05/2022 22:47

Sammy-Jo

I'm 44 - vaguely remember someone having the name in something I watched as a child. I thought it was so sophisticated

ElenaSt · 29/05/2022 22:53

I wanted to be called Judy after my favourite magazine/annual and Judy Garland.

DotBall · 29/05/2022 23:06

Nina

@Arnaquer
Sorry meant to tag you for above post

Hmm maybe not ponies then. Must have been dancers

GoodJanetBadJanet · 29/05/2022 23:19

I've always been happy with mine, seeing it as a part of me.
So I'm now just I suppose bookmarking my place on the thread to see other views!

Wasn't it Dallas?

nex18 · 29/05/2022 23:26

At one point it would definitely have been either Kylie or Charlene. When I was younger I liked both Patsy and Betsy, I think there was a Patsy in something on TV and my favourite doll was called Betsy.

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 29/05/2022 23:26

I love my name so couldn't imagine anything else ☺️

BangaloreLulu · 29/05/2022 23:27

I wanted to be Laura, as I loved the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Why am I not surprised that not one person has said they wish they had been called Strawberry 🍓?

nex18 · 29/05/2022 23:31

Tbf I might have gone for Strawberry Shortcake, Victoria Plum or Hollie Hobby too…

Winniewonka · 29/05/2022 23:38

Heidi. I still like the name today.

😂 My school days were hideous, thanks to my mother's refusal to buy me anything she considered frivolous or "faddy".
Not only did I have to have short hair and Polyveldts, my school bag was an actual canvas army satchel 😳.

It's funny, my sister and I (now in our 50s) have grown up entirely differently in response to our upbringing. Dsis surrounds herself with frivolity to compensate for all that we weren't allowed. I, on the other hand, find it incredibly difficult to buy myself anything which could be deemed 'unnecessary'.

Anyway, sorry to derail. There's definitely another thread in there somewhere.

@JockTamsonsBairns
Oh and another thing (😂)
Giving young girls a bowl cut and calling it a "Purdey cut' wasn't fooling anyone
None of us looked like Joanna Lumley.
70's kids everywhere running around looking like Friar Tuck.

Samantha or Tabitha, after the characters in Bewitched.

Stressyundressy · 30/05/2022 05:18

Vanessa

Or Anne with an E

Arnaquer · 30/05/2022 05:51

@ChristineCagney11 I had the purdey cut or the 'pageboy' as my mother called it.

BruceAndNosh · 30/05/2022 05:58

I read the name Penelope and wanted it.
But I thought it was pronounced penny-lope

Tokeepornot · 30/05/2022 06:00

Oliva because I've always loved that name.

autienotnaughty · 30/05/2022 06:02

Growing up I wanted to be called Kelly as it was the cool name at our school.

starrynight21 · 30/05/2022 06:10

Sandy or Charlie - something quirky and "different" . My own name is nice, but a bit staid, and I wanted something more edgy.

DaisyWaldron · 30/05/2022 07:06

I remember playing a make-believe game in which I was called Lorelei Rocher. I also liked Winona, and was cross when Winona Ryder became famous, because I'd found the name in a baby name book and didn't want people to think I liked it because of someone famous. And I liked Diana because of the goddess and Anne if Green Gables and Anna because it seemed like the sort of name I would have if I was a beautiful Russian poet or artist with dramatic black hair and a cat. I think I must have seen an open university lecture about Anna Akhmatova when off school sick, because when I first encountered her as an older teenager she was absolutely the Anna I'd imagined being.

Pruella · 30/05/2022 07:57

I was desperate to be Sally. I have no idea why

Pottedpalm · 30/05/2022 08:21

Mandy.
preferably with surname Russell or Kennedy
