Shane.
Obviously I'd need to have changed sex as well.

Sorry, my post was meant to quote rhis one. But random otherwise 😅

Thejugglestruggle · 29/05/2022 16:57

Cora or Tabitha

saveforthat · 29/05/2022 16:57

Teodora as there was a Romanian gymnast Teodora Ungureanu (probably misspelled surname). It sounded so exotic and my name is not exotic at all.

Whelmed · 29/05/2022 16:58

Tammy

I wanted to be called Aqua Marina.

"Marina, Aqua Marina!" She was lovely. Also mute.

Josephine, so I could be Jo for short.

I was obsessed with Little Women, and identified with Jo March.

Me too!

Carrie, although everyone always points out that that's a horror film😆I've just always liked the name!

I would go for Carrie too!

AngelinaFangelina · 29/05/2022 17:00

Claudia. I'm not too far removed from that name, but that's what I always wanted.

fussychica · 29/05/2022 17:00

Carol for some unknown reason. This obviously dates me and I much prefer my given name.

Maireas · 29/05/2022 17:01

I also wanted to be called Jo, like Jo March, but I loved Anne of Green Gables as well, so would have liked to be called Cordelia Fitzgerald!

Camilla Devenzies-Johnson.
No, seriously 😳 🙄
No idea why at 8 years old I wanted to be called that 😆

@BalloonsAndWhistles
I have no idea why I've been obsessed with the name Jess all my life but yours surpasses mine it's lovely but it also sounds like a fake name you would give just before you committed a big crime.
"Yes that's right just the one Z in Devenzies"

Laura - which is what my Mum wanted to call me. Dad didn’t like it so I have a very traditional name which I shortened as soon as I could, would love to be a Laura!

IncompleteSenten · 29/05/2022 17:02

Naomi.

It was supposed to be my middle name but when my mum went to register me she couldn't remember what they'd agreed to call me. So I got the first name that came to mind. 🤣

That's what she claims anyway.
I suspect she didn't want to use the name dad chose.

Louise0701 · 29/05/2022 17:04

Georgina or Annie.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 29/05/2022 17:06

Kim

LaQuern · 29/05/2022 17:07

Sharon.

I thought it was v glamorous around 1976....

SilverGlassHare · 29/05/2022 17:08

Leah. I always wished I was called Leah.

RoseGoldEagle · 29/05/2022 17:09

Maireas I also wanted to be Cordelia because of Anne of Green Gables! I loved the name Diana too at the time.

Also remember when I was about 6 that there was a girl in my ballet class called Candy, I thought it was the most beautiful name I’d ever heard!

At secondary school after reading A Merchant of Venice I was obsessed with the name ‘Nerissa’ and remember my friend would call me Nerissa and I would call her Portia. We were strange!

Great thread OP!

Hesma · 29/05/2022 17:11

Anouskha or Penny

RosesAndHellebores · 29/05/2022 17:11

I have an unusual often mispronounced and commented on first name. I really wanted to be called Susan (or Angela). Born 1960.

JeansAndJumper · 29/05/2022 17:13

Allysonne or Catherynne - I was fond of excessive amounts of letters for fairly run of the mill names of their time. My DD should be glad I didn't saddle her in this way Grin

BeanyBops · 29/05/2022 17:14

Lisa, Vanessa or Clarissa. It was the 90s.

Weirdly, when we studied The Merchant of Venice in the equivalent of yr8, I too wanted to be called Nerissa!

Pegasushaswings · 29/05/2022 17:21

Anastasia was one name I loved in the 70’s/80’s I think after watching a programme about Russian Tsars!

RagingWoke · 29/05/2022 17:24

My dad once told me he wanted to call me Jolene and how I wished he'd got his way! It was the epitome of cool to small me.

Also had a phase of using a fake name in my teen years and it was generally Erin or April.
My friend (who was also doing the questionable things we used the fake names for) liked Lavinia Summers.
