To not understand why the 'woman' question is so hard for politicians to answer?

Themidnightpig · 29/05/2022 15:14

Genuinely not sure if I'm missing something here.

Constantly seeing it in the news politicians being unable to answer or getting flustered over the 'do women have penises' question.

Surely the answer is as straight forward as 'No, women don't have penises but some Trans Women do and as a decent society we treat them as women in so far as possible'

Why is this so hard for everyone to grapple with?

An older person I know struggles with the idea of gay marriage - conflicts with their religion, generation, etc etc. Perfectly fine.

So they express that. Clearly.

They don't sit on twitter mocking and sneering at gay people.

All JKR had to do was write it in a way that wasn't flippant. And before anyone starts about her not having to tip toe, you certainly don't - but you make your legacy ultimately in the end whether you are a kind person or not, nobody in years to come will give a shit about your views.

Johnnysgirl · 29/05/2022 20:39

I don't read stuff by TRA's. i read the views of real trans people who were hurt
Why were they hurt? Can you be precise? (I'm guessing not).

TheKeatingFive · 29/05/2022 20:40

Emma Watson manages to be a feminist

No she isn't. God love her, she'll probably cop on when she's older.

Because of the flippancy of the "made up" words.

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 29/05/2022 20:41

It HURT people. Do you understand?

Well, I'm sorry that female biology is so HURTFUL to certain people, but JKR had and still has, every right to call out those who are trying to erase womanhood. We aren't having it, sorry.

Oh bless you.

I'm sure 30 year old Emma will give a monkeys what someone on MN thinks of her.

I'm afraid you can't tell someone else who is and isn't a feminist.

minutesturntohours · 29/05/2022 20:42

Emma cares about women. She just cares about other people apart from women. Imagine.

Trans women, who are biologically male, do not have periods. There is nothing hurtful about refusing to accept the delusion that they do.
Why are you hurt at having reality pointed out to you?

Apparently they do, along with "plenty of men". Periods "are not a feminine thing", apparently. Fascinating place, the internet.

Not the women who's sex specific spaces and sports are being taking away from them unfortunately

Highlyquestionablehoumous · 29/05/2022 20:43

Oh and JKRs career certainly hasn't 'bombed' in the last couple of years. People I know outside of Twitter either don't know what she has said, know and don't give a shit either way, or agree with her.

I work with intelligent, educated, professional women. The overwhelming preference is for inclusion over women's rights. I don't hear the women's spaces argument ever and if I try to introduce it, people genuinely don't care.

This surprises me. I also work with intelligent, educated, professional women and my experience has been the reverse. The preference has been strongly for women's rights and the protection of women's spaces, to the extent that the reverse position is considered laughably woke.

Can you explain what you mean with the use of woke there?

Oh, could you tell me what she's doing in her career?

Is the fact that there's not a single person in her franchise wants to touch her not enough?

ah, the old whataboutery.

In what way are my trans woman friends who don't bother anyone, get changed in their separate spaces and certainly aren't athletes but were hurt by those words offending you?

It's true though.

Will someone stand up at your funeral and say "she wrote lots of great things on the internet about trans rights?"

BasicBinaryBltch · 29/05/2022 20:47

Is the fact that there's not a single person in her franchise wants to touch her not enough?

I doubt this is true but if it is, it's hardly anything to brag about. People are so afraid of harming their reputation or losing their job by disagreeing with gender ideology that they repress their totally sant and factual views. Wow, well done👏👏

Penguintears · 29/05/2022 20:47

Why would your transwomen friends be hurt by JKR indirectly pointing out that only women menstruate? It's a biological fact. How is it hurtful?

TheKeatingFive · 29/05/2022 20:47

but were hurt by those words

Again, can you explain specifically why they were hurt?

In what way are my trans woman friends who don't bother anyone, get changed in their separate spaces and certainly aren't athletes but were hurt by those words offending you?

I have absolutely no issue with your trans friends who aren't impinging on others sex based rights, why would I?

Erm, the Strike books - the last of which reached number 1 in the chart, the next of which is due out in August and the series which is currently being televised?

Also, um, a little known franchise called Harry Potter which seems to still be doing pretty darn well!

TheKeatingFive · 29/05/2022 20:48

Will someone stand up at your funeral and say "she wrote lots of great things on the internet about trans rights?"

I doubt it will come up. What about your funeral, will it be a feature there?

No, it isn't always that. Sometimes peopl ejust really aren't transphobic.

No.

I would like to think people thought I was a kind person.

I despite this flippancy of "be kind". It's been used by feminists to try and make it out to be a bad thing.

I know what I'd like my daughter to be.

Is it me then, or are politicians not only cowards but also completely shit at maths? Would they not get more votes by giving 50% of the population what they want to hear rather than spouting wiffle to pacify 1% of it?

Perhaps it's just me. After all, I am just a woman so wtf would I know about logic, maths and voting systems.

I don't think any election will be won or lost on the basis of trans acceptance, most people are much more concerned about the cost of living crisis and having a proven liar as a PM. And most of the public support trans people anyway.
The majority of Britons do, in fact, support trans rights. A 2020 YouGov survey found that 40 per cent of Brits feel that a trans woman is a woman, while 41 per cent say the same for trans men being men. This is compared to 36 per cent of people who would disagree on both. Women are generally more likely to support trans rights, despite the alarms raised by so-called “feminist” groups. Almost half happily accept the gender identities of both trans men and women. The majority of Brits also say there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a trans woman using women’s toilets, changing rooms or refuges for victims of rape.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/05/2022 20:53

In what way are my trans woman friends who don't bother anyone, get changed in their separate spaces and certainly aren't athletes but were hurt by those words offending you?

You're not wrong. Same with mine (plus my trans man friend who's perfectly happy to describe herself as trans and a woman). I genuinely feel for the many trans people I've known over the years who just got on with things. I think actually they've suffered badly from all this. I know you think we're all hardcore right wingers but it's just not true. I was in Madame Jojos while Emma Watson was still pooing in nappies.

But the zeitgeist now is acceptance without exception. Which means any man who says he's a woman, no matter how much in bad faith he's doing it, should be in female spaces, centred in every female endeavor and allowed to abuse this system. Those are the people who are the issue, and their TRA flying monkeys. Not old-school transsexuals or radical feminists.
