To think that the partygoers at Downing Street should be sacked

Until I read the Sue Gray report today I was, frankly, fairly 'meh' about the whole thing, but it's appalling isn't it?
The Head of Ethics, Helen MacNamara, taking a karaoke machine to a party. Martin Reynolds, a high level civil servant (due to be our next ambassador to Saudi) boasting on WhatsApp about 'getting away with it'. Vomit on the walls. Cleaners and security staff abused.
I don't buy the blaming of Johnson (though I believe he should resign). They are all adults, and many were probably in the job before he came along.
I'd sack them and take away their nice pensions.

Don't panic, everything is going to be fine. Bozo is so disturbed by the contemptuous treatment of the cleaners and the security staff that he's going to apologise to them. In Person. Drones keep repeating this on tv so it must be true. They seem to be under the impression that this will make up for all the other crap he and his mates have dropped on the rest of us. Perhaps someone's reminded him that you upset your domestic staff at your own risk.

There are really important things happening in the world, and so it's hard to believe that this complete non-story is still getting attention. I don't think I know anyone who is bothered about it although, admittedly, the investigation has been a massive waste of Met Police time and resources.

So you are of the opinion this is a non story!!
How offensive to the thousands of people who died and the millions who followed the rules.
Are you usually so inept at reading the room?
You sound self absorbed and quite frankly ghastly.

MayorDusty · 26/05/2022 09:44

In all seriousness I don't think there is anything Johnson could do to get booted out.
As long as he has a Sorry for the disciples to refer to its all good.
look at party gate it's himself that's dragged it out yet people are huffing that it's still going on.
We mock the U.S.for Trump supporters, we need to look in the mirror.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 09:49

Someone has made the point on Facebook that they were already working together so why are we so upset about them socializing together after work ?
Surely they were socially distant in their own offices or trying to stay away from each other ( as most people were who had to carry on working in the office or school or wherever ) but then that went out the window once the alcohol was being served and people were mingling , which was not allowed at that time under the covid rules that we were all told on a daily basis.
There was a difference, one that wouldn't matter in normal times , but during a pandemic it should have been observed and they should have gone home once they finished work. It wasn't hard to stick to, other people managed it and we knew it wouldn't be forever.
I mentioned schools because they were open around here for the key worker's children, so they had to be extra careful too.
It's just making excuses for their weekly knees up and clearly they didn't at least try to socially distance either ! They should have been told to clear off and go home.

Yup. If I behaved like that at work I would be sacked. BJ didn’t even really acknowledge the gaping chasm between his the rest of the country were behaving and what him and his staff were doing. And that bollocks about not apologising for saying thank you to a worker who was leaving. And the crap about them working long hours etc. the doctors and nurses on ITU were working a lot harder. They weren’t partying and spewing up the walls. It’s unbelievable really that they were doing that while our kids missed out on school and socialisation. People weren’t able to grieve together. People died alone. People lost jobs and businesses. People were lonely and isolated - whist this lot partied. If we had all done that…

I have never felt this angry with a government before.

This ^^
I was incandescent with rage yesterday! Today I still feel furious.

Lavenderlast · 26/05/2022 10:46

It’s a strange day when the standard of behaviour for government employees is so incredibly far below the standards required to work in a supermarket.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 10:52

Those working in my local supermarkets over the lockdowns were herding people into long queues, talking through loud hailers ( to have a go at us mostly ) and putting out tannoy requests to stick to the arrows!
The checkouts had barriers around them, there was sanitizer available and people encouraged to use the self scanners in the bigger shops to avoid too much contact. They really did take it seriously!! Kudos to them for dealing with a tricky situation as best as they could

mumofone1980 · 26/05/2022 11:03

More important things going on in the world?

Maybe tell that to the families who's loved ones died alone as they followed the rules while these pricks lived their best life's partying!!!!!

balalake · 26/05/2022 11:15

Mr Johnson should face criminal charges such as corruption and corporate manslaughter. All the other party goers I agree should be sacked, though many have left already.

Swayingpalmtrees · 26/05/2022 11:26

ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This story is very old and very boring.
Go and get a life.

Swayingpalmtrees · 26/05/2022 11:28

It was cheese
It was cake
It was maybe even half a glass of warm wine

Johnson LIVES there ffs, everyone is entitled to some down time.
If someone was sick, that is hardly his fault.

And where is the endless wall to wall coverage of Starmer's dinner party and drinks I ask you????????

Buried in the fucking long grass.

This is a political witch hunt pure and simple by some bitter nasty remainers.

TizerorFizz · 26/05/2022 11:46

Lots of coverage of Kier Starmer. Have you been in a cave recently. He was working though. Birthday celebrations are never work. Hence the difference. Also he’s not in No 10 making the rules.

the80sweregreat · 26/05/2022 11:52

Kier Starmer is being investigated by the Durham police for their curry and beer gathering in 2021.
By saying that he will step aside if he is given a fixed penalty fine has stopped all speculation until that report or fine is sorted out. He might not get a fine , but who knows ?
A Labour MP was given a grilling by Eddie Mair on lbc radio yesterday afternoon about this very subject as well , it is often brought up on political heavy programmes. He made a few very good points.
It hasn't really been forgotten and if he were to resign over it all it will be in the news, so this is still ongoing.

You haven't read the report have you? It was a hell of a lot more than that.

And there was absolutely loads of coverage about Keir Stahmer too! It seems you don't keep up to date on what's actually happening in the media but pretend to.

It is really really worrying that the Met police have not done their job. Why haven't they?

is it true that a brother in law of Sajid Jarvid is high up in the Met and was involved in the investigation?

orangeisthenewpuce · 26/05/2022 12:12

No. I couldn't give a shit if boris, starmer or anyone was doing that during lockdown

Clavinova · 26/05/2022 12:53

Listening to Radio 4 this morning, I learnt that one of the Downing St cleaners contracted covid and subsequently died.

Nick Robinson
@ bbcnickrobinson
^A correction & an apology : This morning in an interview with the prime minister’s chief of staff I raised the case – reported in the Critic magazine -
of “one government cleaner who contracted Covid and died.”^

I went on to describe this man as an individual who had been instructed to work in Downing Street who was surrounded by people breaking the rules. That was a mistake and I apologise for it. Emanuel Gomes worked in the Ministry of Justice.
There is, incidentally, a dispute about the cause of Mr Gomes’s death in April 2020 before COVID testing was routine. The family were reportedly told that he had died of COVID but the post-mortem recorded a different cause of death.

IncompleteSenten · 26/05/2022 13:02

Yes, there are some very important things going on in the world which is exactly why I for one want a decent government!

Instead we get 'do as I say not as I do' piss heads who wouldn't know the truth if it punched them in the face.

I want people with integrity, not arrogant arseholes devoid of morals.

luckylavender · 26/05/2022 13:05

HollowTalk · 25/05/2022 21:35

That would be virtually all the staff, though.

And?

darisdet · 26/05/2022 13:14

Johnson going would be a good start.

Bingo! Exactly what Johnson's strategists want you to say.

warofthemonstertrucks · 26/05/2022 13:25

Of curse they should-for one of two reasons (or both). One breaking their own rules when the rest of us were abiding by them and all the horror that entails in terms of people not being able say goodbye to the dying etc. Or two if they were 'at work' as they claimed they were all apparently getting trollied whilst 'doing the important work of running the country'. I manage care services. If my staff broke the rules like they during the pandemic-hell if they didn't want to be vaccinated even-they got the sack. If they were caught drinking at work at any time-they get the sack.
Why on earth should it be different for anyone working in Downing St? It makes zero sense to me that people are trying to defend it.
