To think that the partygoers at Downing Street should be sacked

Until I read the Sue Gray report today I was, frankly, fairly 'meh' about the whole thing, but it's appalling isn't it?
The Head of Ethics, Helen MacNamara, taking a karaoke machine to a party. Martin Reynolds, a high level civil servant (due to be our next ambassador to Saudi) boasting on WhatsApp about 'getting away with it'. Vomit on the walls. Cleaners and security staff abused.
I don't buy the blaming of Johnson (though I believe he should resign). They are all adults, and many were probably in the job before he came along.
I'd sack them and take away their nice pensions.

I don’t agree. Many testified to the police that Johnson made attending a condition of employment/keeping their career. They were afraid to lose their jobs if they did not go to the party, especially the one he held for his birthday.
As the leader and bully in charge, Johnson is entirely responsible.

MayorDusty · 25/05/2022 22:12

Most of us work, what would happen to you if the custodian had to send you outside pissed at work and you bullied the cleaners?
They were suppose d to be running the country through a pandemic.

For all we know, this could be a deliberate false flag operation to smear Boris and gov't.

AlternativePerspective · 25/05/2022 22:13

If the police had anything about them they would fine Keir Starmer so he would resign. That would then leave Johnson in an impossible situation and put the spotlight on him even more.

DenholmElliot1 · 25/05/2022 22:14

The police officers on the door who allowed it to go ahead are the ones who should be sacked.

bestbefore · 25/05/2022 22:14

I think it's all very odd how it's coming out now. Why didn't people say something/ show the photos at the time?

How does this explain drinking until puking and staying up to 4am

they were hammered and one of them Martin guy? said ‘he’d got away with it’

Let's face it, standing as an MP in the last election necessitated swearing loyalty to Johnson and commitment to Brexit. That's why hardly any of them are prepared to submit letters of no confidence.

People certainly knew how venal and self serving he was but if you point that out you get accused of not allowing a different opinion

Any Tory MP continuing to support him has as little moral compass as he has.

This can't be serious.

gotthis · 25/05/2022 22:18

Maybe it's part of a Tory cunning plan to oust BJ and replace him with, I don't know, someone even further to the right?

Because he called an inquiry. And then because it was so serious and almost brought the law into question a police investigation.
And then purda for local elections.
so the can kept getting kicked.

leotardrock · 25/05/2022 22:20

I am a civil servant & I am incensed by this!

We had an email from Simon Case today basically saying the PM had taken responsibility for the parties & thank you for the amazing work - well sorry Simon that doesn't cut it!

I want a bloody apology - as if the publics opinion of civil servants isn't low enough!
We have 'gold plated pensions' 'huge bonuses', according to the Daily Mail, we're all playing golf & walking the dog according to fucking Richard Madely, JRM thinks we're all at home on Peloton & 91,000 jobs to go because we're 'bloated' after recruiting people to deal with BREXIT & the pandemic!

And now because of a few entitled CS's working at no 10 we're also rude to cleaners & security guards, drinking at work, throwing up & fighting!

Most of us worked all through the pandemic, covering for colleagues who were home schooling struggling to deliver all the services & managed to to have a bloody party every week!

They are a disgrace & should all resign!

MayorDusty · 25/05/2022 22:21

His MPs aren't sending their letters because they love their fat majority.
Johnson is a clown but he's a popular clown.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 25/05/2022 22:21

It's an abysmal showing.

If you look at the events in the report, and bear in mind these are just the events that made it to the report there will have been loads more. They all started at or before 6pm, so all the "we worked long hard hours" is bollocks. They may have been in No 10 till late but apparently they were getting pissed not working.

At a time when people weren't allowed to attend funerals or sing hymns in church they were having a karaoke party.

Several of the events took place when kids weren't allowed to go to school or leave the house more than once a day for exercise, couldn't meet up with a friend or see their grandparents, but Boris thought it was his job as leader to go and give a speech and at someone's leaving do and raise a glass and apparently never considered that the leaving do shouldn't be taking place at all.

Then the Tories have the gall to say we need to put it behind us and let them get on with the big jobs. They've shown themselves to be a load of liars with utter contempt for the people they are supposed to represent and serve. How could anyone trust them to get on with the big jobs and to act with our best interests in mind?

carefullycourageous · 25/05/2022 22:22

Johnson should be put out of office by the Tory party. He won't resign, but he has zero moral authority, he is a disgrace to the office and he should be gone.

The Tory party is a shameless bunch of charlatans for propping him up.

I hope you’re taking adequate steps to stop the remainder of your brain from dribbling out of your nose.

Ohilovetorave · 25/05/2022 22:23

Given the time, place & context it's unforgiveable.

Totally agree, I feel furious, absolutely furious about the whole state of affairs. I hate the man with a passion and his whole damn party. It totally undermines everything a govt stands for, honestly I have got white rage over it right now.

ProteusmarkII · 25/05/2022 22:23

They should all go imo. I have to abide by these, and I do, the party gate lot are no different (apart from their pay scales!)

Principles

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 25/05/2022 22:23

@DrippyLongstocking "I hope you’re taking adequate steps to stop the remainder of your brain from dribbling out of your nose."

🤣🤣😀

carefullycourageous · 25/05/2022 22:23

They had fucking Wine Time Friday at 4pm every week. I have a pretty boring job but at 4pm every Friday during lockdown I was working. Not getting pissed. Johnson knew exactly what was going on, he tried desperately to cover it up and prevent it coming out.

the80sweregreat · 25/05/2022 22:25

They are all a bunch of turds.

bjjgirl · 25/05/2022 22:26

DenholmElliot1 · 25/05/2022 22:14

The police officers on the door who allowed it to go ahead are the ones who should be sacked.

It's not as simple as that as the party could have been called a work meeting and they would be non the wiser as they would not be allowed in.

A late night meeting or networking event at the persons regular place of work is not unheard of

MarshaBradyo · 25/05/2022 22:26

I can just imagine the person who made it into the report for throwing up having a laugh at work over it

Which makes me more annoyed

Taking me back to Cummings non apology way back when

leotardrock · 25/05/2022 22:26

It would be bad in normal times - in a pandemic unforgivable!

Please don't anyone feel stupid for following the rules, I did too! And I'm glad I did.

StageRage · 25/05/2022 22:28

Of course they should all be sacked.

But Johnson does need to be held accountable too. He allowed and facilitated the culture within which this happened.
