Do you know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away

YANBU - Truth! Freedom! Justice! and a hardboiled egg!
YABU - what are you talking about?

My dad died last month and I'm just having a quiet weep over this thread because I'd forgotten what day it is today. I sent a text to DP 'justice, freedom, reasonably priced love!' and he replied 'And a hardboiled egg!' Grin

Thank you OP. I am crying, but in a good way, thinking of my dad. His ripples literally spread across the world.

And for the people bitching who clearly haven't bothered to RTFT... Oook.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/05/2022 16:59

Oook

Language!!! I'm shocked frankly.

Rat-onna-stick inna bun...

But only with ketchup.

Make sure to follow good hygiene and wash your hands afterwards, who wants ratty hands?

MistyGreenAndBlue · 25/05/2022 16:07

Insider? 😂
Because his books aren't easily available in many formats and already well known to millions eh?
This is clearly a thread for fans yes, but its hardly a secret society.

Jokes about Sir TP and Discworld on a thread about them?! For shame!! Off to the Tanty!!

Fairislefandango · 25/05/2022 17:10

´Trigger warning - may contain literary references/relate to topics and authors you have no interest in´

GrinGrin

Loving the stroppy 'Terry Pratchett isn't funny anyway, and your in-jokes are lame so nerr' posts. Reading or posting on threads about things you're not interested in isn't actually compulsory, you know?

LaMarschallin · 25/05/2022 17:22

This would make a bee-yoo-tiful embroidered wall hanging to flog on Facebook:

“If you trust in yourself…and believe in your dreams…and follow your star…you’ll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren’t so lazy.”

Yeah - stitch that, ye scunners!

FiveNineFive · 25/05/2022 17:25

Honestly though I love Granny's quote on sin best I think

Hesma · 25/05/2022 17:41

Have you been watching Coco? Love that film 🍿

Artichokeleaves · 25/05/2022 18:21

"If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”

GNU sir. Wearing midnight.

« ‘Ah. There really is a desert. does everyone get this? ‘ Said Brutha.
WHO KNOWS ?
’and what is at the end of the desert? ‘
JUDGEMENT
Brutha considered this.
‘Which end?’
Death grinned and stepped aside. «

I hope one day someone else, like Neil Gaimen perhaps, picks up the mantle I think he would be more than able

Gaiman is talented, but I don't think he's got the sheer humanity and insight of TP. (Sorry if that's species-ist).

Thelongdarkteatime · 25/05/2022 20:03

How do they rise up?

I didn’t even realise the date this morning, they year has gone quickly; feels like five minutes since I was posting on the thread last year.

I am due a train journey in a week- think I shall pack Going Postal to read.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 25/05/2022 20:34

Surely Raising Steam is the most appropriate Discworld novel for a train journey? There's a TP novel for every eventuality after all!

Thelongdarkteatime · 25/05/2022 21:03

True- I’ll have to look out my copy of Raising Steam; I think I gave it to a friend. It’s well overdue a re-read!

They rise arse up, arse up, arse up

Hollowgast · 25/05/2022 22:09

Whenever I'm in a graveyard, I always read the names out loud. That way I've kept that person "alive" for a bit longer

SilkySuky · 25/05/2022 22:13

GNU STP

Sunbird24 · 25/05/2022 22:24

I’ve just re-read I Shall Wear Midnight. (Crivens!)

GNU Sir Pterry.

PonyPatter44 · 25/05/2022 22:42

How many of us have got an unopened copy of The Shepherd's Crown on our bookshelves? I can't bear to read it, because then that really is the end.

SoupDragon · 25/05/2022 08:05

At much a lower tech level, I do Geocaching and have a series of Discworld caches. I have included that on each page in white text that no one will see.

I've always wanted to learn how to do geocaching. How do people know they are Discworld caches or don't they? Are they only local to you? I want to look for STP caches! (Even if I have no idea how it all works)

Also, Terry Pratchett clearly is/was witty and talented and a great commentator on the human condition. Anyone who doesn't agree can quite frankly be fed to Lady Sybil's pets 😜 It still upsets me that I will never have an Errol.

EsmeGythaMagrat · 25/05/2022 22:47

Well I had to pop in on this thread today! I’m taking night watch away with next week for a re-read.
Mind how you go

Just as well though, with that level of disregard for the delicacy of a swamp dragon's digestive system.

DragonwithoutaDungeon · 25/05/2022 23:15

TP will always have a place in my heart, I learned so much from reading them and upon rereading now still continue to find new references that I hadn't understood the last time!

This thread has made me smile!

They rise knees up! Knees up!
All the little Angels, rise up high!

I like it.

Memories live on.

I often say my mam will never be gone as long as DD's alive, they're very alike I see my mother in her every day.
