Someone has blocked my driveway abs I cannot get out. Too late to start knocking on doors (10:38pm) here in Uk. What can I do? Need to get kids to school in morning and I need to get to work. What can I do if they don’t move it by morning?

OP posts:

Dropped a child off the other day very busy road so pulled over alongside a drive - child was faffing elderly couple came running out ranting and taking photos

it never ceases to amaze me where the ageism on MN can pop up. FWIW: they could have been an elderly couple with medical needs who might need to leave at any moment for a hospital visit etc etc. They can't know that the selfish young mum in the car with a faffy kid isn't just going to get out and walk off.

Maybe they were having a bad day. Maybe you were the 42nd person to block them in that day/week/month. You have no idea.

RainCoffeeBook · 17/05/2022 09:05

They might have parked and fucked off elsewhere, like to an airport or some other thing near you. Could be nowhere nearby. Have the fucker towed. And slash its tyres.

Fgs sure it will be gone by morning 🙄. Dropped a child off the other day very busy road so pulled over alongside a drive - child was faffing elderly couple came running out ranting and taking photos 🙄 Hadnt even turned my engine off.

And how were they supposed to know you weren't planning to just leave it there? They wouldn't know for sure until you had walked off and left it there, by which time it would be too late to do anything. Much better to go out and make a fuss while there was still a chance to do something about it.

And what has their age to do with it? Surely any sensible person would do the same

Theonlyoneiknow · 17/05/2022 09:26

Hope you got it resolved and gave them what for OP!

What if you needed to take one of the children to hospital in the night.

Only on mumsnet are parents on standby to drive their children to hospital day or night, at the drop of a hat.

No this is real life. In real life parents are always on stand by to drive their kids to hospital. My husband drove my son to hospital at 11.30pm a few weeks ago.

I am not sure why you disbelieve this. What do you think happens ‘in real life’? That if there is an emergency the parents just say to their sick/ injured child, ‘nah I’m not on duty mate. You’ll have to wait till 9am tomorrow morning when I’m back on.’

lovingtheheat · 17/05/2022 09:42

Call the police explain you're blocked in, you'll be surprised how quickly the person appears once they've been contacted by police to say that their car is going to be towed away - I've had to do this a number of times over the years.

BuanoKubiamVej · 17/05/2022 09:45

Do let us know what happened once you ave dealt with the morning's driving!

Oysterbabe · 17/05/2022 09:45

So what happened?

How do you suggest she takes kids (plural) on a bike?

Gudbrand · 17/05/2022 10:04

Overinvested now...
Hopefully the DH found the culprit, the car moved and OP is now on the way wherever she had to go and will update later!

ApolloandDaphne · 17/05/2022 10:25

Did you find the culprit?

sleepygal · 17/05/2022 10:33

yes good idea. rock it back and forth till the alarm goes off, then call a taxi for your school run and work.

ButtockUp · 17/05/2022 10:55

Not sure we'll get an update now.

Leftbutcameback · 17/05/2022 10:56

I watched someone park across my drive the other day. Kid was in the car so clearly not going to be long. Came back after 10 minutes but then locked up the car and started walking off with kid. I called after him and he seemed a bit confused, I suggested he park just a bit further back so we could get in the drive but he just drove off. Seemed completely clueless about the whole business of parking!

It is morning, and was when you posted that. OP said at 7.15 am it was still there.

Elderly couple you encountered might be a PITA or they might be completely fed up with people blocking their driveway as they're about to go out.

WisherWood · 17/05/2022 11:11

Cargo bike. I mean it's unlikely she's got one spare hanging around, but for future reference there is a huge amount you can move by cargo bike. Given the OP is in London she could have called these people for a taxi pedalme.co.uk/pedal-me-school-runs/

Good for the 'elderly couple', (how do you define elderly?), taking photos, hopefully of you and your children as well as your car. Maybe sort yourself out and teach your prodigy not to 'faff'.

Orchidflower1 · 17/05/2022 11:16

Any joy @Zaab213 hope you managed to get to work ok.

To be fair, if the kid is genuinely a prodigy, then it's probably the right thing to cut him a bit of slack.

MsTSwift · 17/05/2022 11:27

Not my kid! Their neighbours kid! I must have been there under 3 minutes they were in the front garden going mental. Parking really presses peoples buttons doesn’t it.

MsTSwift · 17/05/2022 11:28

Ha my own kid is very far from being a prodigy 😁 I wish !

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/05/2022 11:32

Knock, someone blocked me in at 3am once, you know I went knocking to find the owner.
They were not happy I made them move the car at 3am - shouldn't block people in

I have 0% sympathy for the owner who had to move their car; BUT, I feel very sorry for the other, innocent, people who were woken up needlessly at 3am. Not just woken up, but likely very frightened indeed, as somebody knocking on your door at that time is likely to be/bringing very bad news.

Atchidmsn · 17/05/2022 11:34

Hi I have an interview on Friday in a children's hospital cardiology unit for health and support worker would like some advice of what questions I would be asked Tia

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/05/2022 11:35

For future reference, ask around if anybody has a trolley jack they may be able to lend you. Just make sure that, wherever you move the obstacular car to, you leave it in an appropriate place - these will be marked by double yellow lines.
