Someone has blocked my driveway abs I cannot get out. Too late to start knocking on doors (10:38pm) here in Uk. What can I do? Need to get kids to school in morning and I need to get to work. What can I do if they don’t move it by morning?

Everything @Testina said

N4ish · 16/05/2022 23:05

You do sound very anxious! I would completely assume that it will have moved by the time morning comes around and wouldn't give it a second thought until then.

Zaab213 · 16/05/2022 23:07

Thank you all! Yes I’ll try to get done sleep now. Thank you.,hopefully will be moved by morning otherwise will try the suggestions here.

Hopefully it will go in the night.

Take a picture of the car license plate, before doing anything else.

You could call the Council and ask for a car removal service. The council are responsible for public roads.

Either that or the police on 111.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of further help but think that either of those two should be able to at least refer you should the need arise.

In the meantime, phone the school, explain the situation and use public transport or a taxi. You may face a short term financial loss but hopefully it gets resolved soon. I would normally say that you can claim costs back from the Small Claims Court, but they have changed their procedure and it might cost more money than it's worth, for the hassle also.

In the long term, see if clearer signage is the issue. Put up police notices so that people know if they park there, it's the bobbies they'll be dealing with.

Somethingsnappy · 16/05/2022 23:36

Another vote here for setting off their alarm.

whynotwhatknot · 16/05/2022 23:52

I need to leave at 7:30 / 7:40am the latest.

I did actually call non emergency number (101) but was on hold for 20 minutes so gave up and posted here.

because mumsnet is the police

Sswhinesthebest · 17/05/2022 00:18

I’d be trying the alarm too. Embarrass them in front of the other neighbours!

safclass · 17/05/2022 00:19

I was in the dentist's one day when a man came in and asked if anyone owned a car which was blocking his drive and he couldn't get his car out. No-one owned up to it, so he he said he'd calm the police.
Apparently it is illegal to block someone getting OFF their drive but not getting ON to it. Police came and were making arrangements to have it moved, when a young woman , who had been in the dentists came out ,said she didn't think he really meant it!
I'd phone 101 tonight to report it and check what your rights /options are and what your police will/won't do.

Iamthewombat · 16/05/2022 23:49

Bop it?

That made me laugh - "twist it" isn't an option on a car, sadly! Grin

Hope they've gone by morning. Another option, to annoy EVERYONE and shame the idiot who blocked you in, is to go out to your car about 20 minutes before you need to leave and sit on the horn until someone comes out and does something about it. (Unless you have by laws about horn use, obviously - don't do that if it will get YOU into trouble).

FlissyPaps · 17/05/2022 00:36

Absolute cheeky fuckery. Stuff like this gets me so mad!!

Hope it’s gone by morning for you OP, but If not, phone back 101 and just knock on every single house until you find out who it is.

fairytwinkletastic · 17/05/2022 00:38

Yep, booty call 😃

FarmGirl78 · 17/05/2022 00:56

If its still there at 7.30 and you have to get a taxi or have relatives help out, please can you promise us you'll let all the tyres down before you leave for work?

Watchkeys · 17/05/2022 01:14

Golly, there's no wonder you suffer from anxiety if you expect all the world to do as you would do, in any given situation.

When the problem arises, let it arise. Bother people when you need to bother them. There's a lot of disrespectful prats about. You'll be one, at some point, when your needs are great.

Solidarityovercharity · 17/05/2022 01:21

In my world this problem would be a working definition of non-urgent

Thisismynamenow · 17/05/2022 01:30

Knock, someone blocked me in at 3am once, you know I went knocking to find the owner.

They were not happy I made them move the car at 3am - shouldn't block people in 🤷‍♀️

So not the real world, where people have to go to work then?

Indigoo03 · 17/05/2022 02:10

Can you find out if you have a local WhatsApp group? Someone had set up one for my road and there are 30 or so residents on it. Often it is about cars that require moving or notifying about ones that have been broken into....

jimbobalot · 17/05/2022 03:03

id say knocking on doors at 10.40pm i easier than 7ish when you’re carrying a baby etc

Unless they drive a mobility car, I’m surprised that even in London with a world class public transport system that walking/bus/tube is not even considered an option. With fuel at an all time high too.

surreygirl1987 · 17/05/2022 05:04

So selfish. Good luck - I'd be cross and anxious too!
