Someone has blocked my driveway abs I cannot get out. Too late to start knocking on doors (10:38pm) here in Uk. What can I do? Need to get kids to school in morning and I need to get to work. What can I do if they don’t move it by morning?

Get some burly folk to help you bounce it.

In my world this problem would be a working definition of non-urgent

Presumably you don't have children to take to school or a job to get to?

SunnyShiner · 17/05/2022 05:51

Hope they've moved. If not sit on the horn.

Shitandhills · 17/05/2022 06:00

Call the police and they should be able to call the owner, I think through details held on the licensing system. I once accidentally parked in front of a loading entrance (it was in a dark side street and there wasn't a drop curb so I didn't realise). I got a panicky call from my MIL as it was my partner's car and still registered at their address!

Time2ChangeName · 17/05/2022 06:05

Are you up? Is it still there??

zoopigi · 17/05/2022 06:08

Invested now-did the car move???

Backtoblack1 · 17/05/2022 06:27

Has it gone?

Luculentus · 17/05/2022 06:31

I can't see the point of sitting on the horn. Chances are it will annoy every neighbour and the car owner is miles away.

lunar1 · 17/05/2022 06:36

I hope they moved!

Unless they drive a mobility car, I’m surprised that even in London with a world class public transport system that walking/bus/tube is not even considered an option. With fuel at an all time high too.

Even a so called world class transportation system can't get me to Heathrow to start a 4.30am shift. If I was blocked in I'd be waking all the neighbours at 3.30am.

KangarooKenny · 17/05/2022 06:50

Has it gone OP ?

Anniegetyourgun · 17/05/2022 06:58

I'm just wondering how many innocent non-blocking residents would be woken by the horn that several posters have suggested the OP sounds either late at night or early in the morning. How many babies, ill people, workers on night shift etc must also suffer because some driver is an inconsiderate so-and-so? Make no mistake, the neighbours won't blame being woken on the one who blocked the driveway, they'll blame it on the one who's blasting that horn - and why wouldn't they?

I'm all for doing something that will impact on the driver, but this would just spread anger and misery with quite possibly no effect on the one person who deserves it.

Zaab213 · 17/05/2022 07:14

Still there! DH going knocking on doors now. Hopefully will find the culprit.

Choufleurfromage · 17/05/2022 07:18

If you have a council approved dropped kerb and assosciated white line across, they will have been given you a number to ring to get blockers towed. If you don't have this, then there is nothing to be done.
But don't just 'sit' o your car horn, you'll likely get some abuse because that is just pig ignorant

Dontjudgeme101 · 17/05/2022 07:18

I hope your husband finds the culprit.

HeadToToesNo · 17/05/2022 07:19

Good luck! I hope they feel bad for being so inconsiderate.

Choufleurfromage · 17/05/2022 07:22

Yes, you can't block people in, but you can block them so they can't get onto their space/driveway

TheAverageUser · 17/05/2022 07:24

DuesToTheDirt · 16/05/2022 22:49

What if you needed to take one of the children to hospital in the night.

Only on mumsnet are parents on standby to drive their children to hospital day or night, at the drop of a hat.

My 2 year old has regular emergency trips to the hospital, we're not the majority but people have lives going on that it would be nice to be respected. Just to give another perspective.

Bit dramatic 😂

KangarooKenny · 17/05/2022 07:26

My DM recently had a kerb dropped, and paid for a white line due to wanker neighbours, but she wasn’t given any number to phone.

WaterBottle123 · 17/05/2022 07:27

Urgh! Good luck OP!

Choufleurfromage · 17/05/2022 07:29

@stepuporshutup because you would love it if someone did that in your street. And using your car horn between 11pm and 7am is against highway code. What if the car owner has just parked there and is in another street? In London, it's not unusual you have to park streets away from your own.

Choufleurfromage · 17/05/2022 07:32

@KangarooKenny Tell her to ring council for number. They usually send a traffic warden to check who then contacts tow truck. 😊

Blarting · 17/05/2022 07:42

Cheeky feckers (although it might be a genuine mistake!)

My neighbours child is disabled and frequently needs hospital treatment, didnt stop a nearby business letting their drivers block her driveway on an almost daily basis. Only stopped after Facebook shaming as the manager didnt give a shit and the police are spread too thin ( semi rural area)
