Someone has blocked my driveway abs I cannot get out. Too late to start knocking on doors (10:38pm) here in Uk. What can I do? Need to get kids to school in morning and I need to get to work. What can I do if they don’t move it by morning?

Can you get a bunch of people to help you push it out of the way? Not good for the hand break but it can be done….

DuesToTheDirt · 16/05/2022 22:49

What if you needed to take one of the children to hospital in the night.

Only on mumsnet are parents on standby to drive their children to hospital day or night, at the drop of a hat.

😂 dramatic

Jaxinthebox · 17/05/2022 07:51

so I need an update on car movement - did husband find culprit? Have you gone to work? call the police?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/05/2022 08:00

Choufleurfromage · 17/05/2022 07:32

@KangarooKenny Tell her to ring council for number. They usually send a traffic warden to check who then contacts tow truck. 😊

You are very lucky in your area, there are often similar posts on my local Facebook and neither the police or the council ever get involved.

Hope you've got out now OP

My neighbours child is disabled and frequently needs hospital treatment, didnt stop a nearby business letting their drivers block her driveway on an almost daily basis. Only stopped after Facebook shaming as the manager didnt give a shit and the police are spread too thin ( semi rural area)

That's awful, thankfully I'm rural enough no one's likely to block me but this must be terrifying for them.

MsTSwift · 17/05/2022 08:02

Fgs sure it will be gone by morning 🙄. Dropped a child off the other day very busy road so pulled over alongside a drive - child was faffing elderly couple came running out ranting and taking photos 🙄 Hadnt even turned my engine off.

If you at least read the OPs posts you'd know it wasn't gone, your story is completely different

Think you missed the OP update at 7:15 where she says the car is still there and her DH is now knocking on doors.

LookItsMeAgain · 17/05/2022 08:06

If you're reading this and you're still stuck in your driveway, get in your car, exit your driveway so that you're just centimetres away from the offending car and put your hand on your horn and let it rip! Keep your hand on your horn until the offending car is removed from blocking your driveway.

BetterDaysareComming · 17/05/2022 08:07

I have a neighbor that does this often. I'm blocked in usually until 5am. Hope it's sorted now op.

Is there any way that you could have pulled up on the busy road but without blocking a driveway that was clearly being used by the homeowners?

Or did you spot a gap in the parked cars and thought "oh that'll be a good place to stop and let X and Y out of the car"?

Except the homeowner, who clearly wouldn't have had an opportunity to know what is going on in your head, may have thought that you were going to leave your car there, thereby blocking their access, went out to get you to move along???

Zaab213 · 17/05/2022 07:14

Still there! DH going knocking on doors now. Hopefully will find the culprit.

That’s totally unreasonable! You could quite easily have needed to go out to work much earlier than this. Hope your DH hands their arse to them.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 17/05/2022 08:14

Some people are just beyond selfish. I cannot imagine ever doing this unless responding to an absolute emergency. I hope you find the culprit and give them hell.

AllyCatTown · 17/05/2022 08:20

That’s ridiculous that someone did that. Hopefully you got them to move. Any update?

Thank you for great insight to what I would love

MsTSwift · 17/05/2022 08:32

This country is now too crowded for us all to continue using our cars as we do. It’s just not working. Our small city is gridlocked and people get mentally neurotic about parking. We need to find a better way.

Hersetta427 · 17/05/2022 08:42

Why on earth didn't you set the alarm off - that will bring someone out. just bounce the bonnet.

Herejustforthisone · 17/05/2022 08:43

I’d sit, really obnoxiously, on my horn until they came out. Any pissed off neighbours would be invited to direct their own ire at the prick who blocked me in.

ClinkeyMonkey · 17/05/2022 08:45

People really are self centred shits when it comes to parking. It's dog eat dog where my mum lives. Some of the ridiculous parking I've seen. Hope you got your car out OP.

toomuchlaundry · 17/05/2022 08:46

@MsTSwift isn’t that slightly ironic as you were in your car causing the problem

Right. But none of that is the reason why some selfish idiot has blocked the OP in without leaving a note. I don’t think she’s neurotic for wanting to be able to exit her own drive!

ButterOllocks · 17/05/2022 08:48

Hope it's sorted now OP - what an inconsiderate tw@t !

Riv · 17/05/2022 08:57

We have a dropped kerb, white lines, no parking in white paint done by the council and single yellow lines each side of an entrance drive to a small car park used by several neighbours and a couple of small businesses. They have all been there for ally least 30 years that I know of. Cars and vans frequently block the entrance, thankfully they usually move within a few hours. Some stay for a week or more blocking in all residents- there’s no other way out either.
Non of us has a telephone number or any other details mentioned by a pp. Yes we’ve asked. Parking wardens will give a ticket if you can find one, they photograph the car and If the drive is blocked after that photograph for over an hour during business hours, (9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday here). They will call a tow truck if the ticket(s) are ignored for 48 hours (excluding weekends and bank holidays - so car photographed at 5.15 on a Friday before a bank holiday and the car can be towed as soon as 5.15pm the following Wednesday. Police take maybe 2 hours minimum to come, usually just ignoring the problem or referring it to the privately run warden firm, will put a “police aware” sticker on the car blocking the entrance. Nothing else, not even a revisit. The sticker seems to prevent the wardens calling the tow truck.
it’s fun! But there’s nowhere else for residents to park overnight within a mile in any direction.

MsTSwift · 17/05/2022 09:00

Yes I drive! Never said I didn’t! Not criticising just saying that frankly what we are doing now just isn’t working. Increasing number of upset type parking related threads, this one lots of others - posters getting yelled at for parking outside some nutters house and gridlock in most of our cities. Car use in cities needs to end. Cycling into town today - it’s quicker.

Lolllllllllllll · 17/05/2022 09:00

I'm assuming that the cars gone and the OP is whizzing around doing her morning routine 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
