To be really annoyed with this woman

Having a small party for DS2, 5 friends invited, plus DS1 and 2. One of the boys invited turns up with his brother (same age as Ds1) and says "mymum says I ahve to stay here and wait for my brother, then take him home". When i said the party was for Ds2 and his friends he said "Yes but she's a single parent". I don't see what that has to do with it
So now have 1 extra child in teh house, ahve got no extra food, no extra party bags (iknow I know) stuff for him and am really Pi$$ed off with this parent for doing this

YANBU

She should at least have asked.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 11/01/2008 17:23

A presumption too far me thinks.

deenymcqueenygoreandguts · 11/01/2008 17:23

no, i possibly may be irritated but not bothered.
do you not have a couple of sarnies for the boy and a bag of crisps?

is it really that awful? really??

Shannaratinger · 11/01/2008 17:24

You have every right to be annoyed with her. Would phone her up adn tell her so.

VictorianSqualor · 11/01/2008 17:24

Rude. As for her being a single parent, I ahve been one and know many people who are, I'm sure they just became one arent families rather than expected to be able to take the piss and use their status as an excuse...

Elasticwoman · 11/01/2008 17:24

That was extremely cheeky and I would tell the mother so at a later date when there are no children listening - even if you have to ring her up at home. She has absolutely no right to impose on you and put you in a difficult position. I would also never invite her or her children to anything ever again.

you have time to go on the internet when you've got a party going on???

MaryAnnSingleton · 11/01/2008 17:25

just very rude - no excuses

southeastastra · 11/01/2008 17:26

it wouldn't bother me in the slightest

cornsilk · 11/01/2008 17:26

Poor lad, bet he'd rather be at home on his PS2.

Elasticwoman · 11/01/2008 17:26

Of course it's awful, deeny. The older boy was not invited. The OP could not send him away because he was a child. She was forced to take responsibility for this child and to entertain him without knowing anything about him. It's not on, and if you can't see that is obvious then I can't explain it any further.

deenymcqueenygoreandguts · 11/01/2008 17:28

nahhh!
I disagree,
not awful, its only a boy.

give him a butty!

Rantmum · 11/01/2008 17:28

She should have asked - I assume it is the not being asked that really p***s you off?

PalomaPicasso · 11/01/2008 17:28

Oh for god's sake. Are you SERIOUS elastic woman? You would NEVER invite her or her children to anything ever again?
FGS how deeply unhospitable all of you are. He is an older child, he is fully aware that he is there just to bring his brother home, he isn't demanding party bags or anything - have a heart. Say "great, you can either help me or go and watch some tv/play with DS1/ whatever. I'm afraid I haven't got a spare party bag but it is probably too babyish for you anyway". Then give the boy some sandwiches and a mini roll and GET A LIFE

cornsilk · 11/01/2008 17:29

Why don't you get him to help with the games and stuff - he might turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Elasticwoman · 11/01/2008 17:29

Deeny you make me you are so laid back!

wotz · 11/01/2008 17:29

I expect the boy feels uncomfortable, please consider that it is not his fault.

How's he getting them both home, is it far?

bossykate · 11/01/2008 17:30

oi! we're not all inhospitable, ta v much.

PalomaPicasso · 11/01/2008 17:30

I'm so shocked at some of your responses I could weep.

The English at their worst

PalomaPicasso · 11/01/2008 17:31

No BK you are lovely
But the ones on here who aren't being lovely are AWFUL

deenymcqueenygoreandguts · 11/01/2008 17:31

in the scheme of things, tis a party, tis a happy time,
a buty wont hurt.....

Oblomov · 11/01/2008 17:33

children aren't dropped off by thier parents at parties anymore ? They just turn up ? How old are these boys ?
And you have time to Mumsnet ???????????

SoupDragon · 11/01/2008 17:33

How old is he??

You don't need to give him a party bag, I can't believe you were even thinking along those lines.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2008 17:33

I would give him a job and chuck him a sandwich.
