So, how many loads of washing DO you do in a week, MN??

PeeAche2 · 11/05/2022 14:29

Inspired by the poor MNer that is doing 4 loads a day... tell me your laundry schedule.

Mine is very straightforward:

2 children and a cloth nappy baby
1 load per day - put in before bed on an eco cycle and hung out the next morning before work.

If I am ill, drunk or forgetful, my schedule falls behind by 1 day and I give zero shits. "Because I do not exist to do your laundry."

If someone pisses the bed, I am willing to do an extra load. But I will be vocal about it.

*then 4

bloodywhitecat · 11/05/2022 15:23

3-4 a week, I just sort into whites, lights and darks, that's for me, a 1 year old and a 2 year old.

CatLadyDrinksGin · 11/05/2022 15:29

Are we talking just clothes or everything? Cos our bedding is at least three loads/week plus 3/4 of towels/week before we start on clothes. I honestly don’t know how the 4/5 loads a week people do so few. We’re 5 adult sized people.

WakeWaterWalk · 11/05/2022 15:36

5 or 6 loads. Could get away with fewer but we dry outdoors where possible and I don't like a mostly dry day to go to waste iyswim and then have to wash lots on a rainy day.
Only 3 (full size) people now and no sports matches or swimming anymore.

Springandsummerarecoming · 11/05/2022 15:36

About 4 or 5 for all 4 of us. So roughly equates to a load a week per person. One of those washes is a white wash and one bedding and towels which is washed on a hotter wash. We use towels for a week and bedding lasts a week or two. We re wear trousers and jumpers unless they smell or are visibly dirty. Same with school uniform. Jumpers and trousers / skirt don’t need washing after every wear. 4-5 washes a week is doable to be able to wash, dry and put away. Any more than that and I would be drowning.

TeacupDrama · 11/05/2022 15:50

2 adults 1 teenage DD
10kg drum
2 lots of bedding and towels, dishclothes etc might throw a couple of other things in with them generally done on monday
1 dark lot including school uniform done friday night
1 white pale lot including school shirts done Saturday morning
very occasional fifth load if doing some activity that involves getting seriously dirty
apart from underwear socks tights and school shirts I do not wash things that have been used once unless visibly dirty or smelly
DD has 5 school shirts 2 jumpers and 2 skirts ( she has trousers she doesn't wear them) and one PE kit they always last the full week

LaWench · 11/05/2022 15:52

Probably about 5 a week. We reuse clothes a lot other than underwear and reuse towels. DC don't roll about in mud or have messy activities.

AMegaPint · 11/05/2022 15:56

I'd say about 4/5 a week. 2 light colours, 1-2 darks, 1 whites and 1 towels & bedding (unless white bedding then it goes in with whites obvs). I tend to do most of it on a Sunday

Furrbabymama87 · 11/05/2022 16:01

About 2 a day. More if I'm washing towels and bedding or putting a white wash on. 2 adults, 4 kids.

Courante · 11/05/2022 16:01

Not complete sure - at a guess

1 x ecloths/ecloth teatowels
1 x football shirts (on cold/30 wash)
1 x lights
3 x darks
1 x brights or darks/brights mix
3 x whites (mainly bedding and towels)

So 10 (me, DH and teenage DS)

PersianStar · 11/05/2022 16:05

2 adults with 3 under 4 but DP usually works away mon-fri.
we do all our washing on a Friday night/Saturday. He will come home and tip out his “away” bag (construction) so there’s quite a bit. All towels get washed Friday night as well. Half the beds get changed every other week.
we maybe have 5 loads, 6 if it’s a good drying outside week.
I then do a wash on a Tuesday night/Wednesday to mop up the rest and deal with all the sick/wee/poo/milky stuff that comes with little ones.

Seasidemumma77 · 11/05/2022 16:07

When 4dc were young, and using washable nappies, up to 6 loads a day. Then moved to do about 4 loads a day (lots of sports kits). Now some dc have left home and only 1dc at school, I do 2 to 3 loads a week.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 11/05/2022 16:08

It is all well and good saying 2 adults and 2 kids but when Ds is home from uni I have 2 adult sized sons at home so their stuff takes up far more washing machine space than a toddler and 5 year old would. Dh is over 6ft so his laundry takes up lots of space too. Everyone except me has size 10 or 11 feet.

I do 2 loads a day but only 5 days a week. I refuse to do laundry on the weekend. I use reusable cloths for cleaning and the kitchen, very rarely use kitchen roll. I wish years ago I had bought a 10kg machine but I got an 8kg one and it is still going strong.

I have a super king bed so that bedding takes up an entire load, mine and Dh's bath sheets plus hand towels take up an entire load on weight alone. I do a whites wash too, my Mother would turn in her grave if I mixed them in with anything. Grin

Quornflakegirl · 11/05/2022 16:08

Family of 4, two dc and two adults and 4-5 loads per week.

2pinkginsplease · 11/05/2022 16:09

4 adults in our house approx 9 washes a week that includes clothes, bedding and towels.

melj1213 · 11/05/2022 16:24

I average at about 3 washes a week but every other week DD lives with her dad so those weeks there is only me at home and then the other week it's just the two of us.

If DD is at her dad's for the week I do 2/3 loads a week: one towels/bedding (I alternate DD and my bedding to wash since she only uses hers every other week) another one is clothes (all thrown in together unless there is enough to make at least 2 ¾ loads of separated clothes) and then every couple of weeks I'll do a load of cleaning cloths/bathmats/teatowels etc

If DD is at mine for the week then I will usually do 3 loads: one towels/bedding and the rest clothes - usually separated roughly into lights and darks so whites/lights go together and darks/colours go together, add a colour catcher and I've never had an issue with throwing everything in together.

Every so often I'll do extra loads as one offs - the couch blankets get done every few months or if they get stained; cushion covers maybe once or twice a year etc but they're just as and when needed rather than done on a specific schedule

stuntbubbles · 11/05/2022 16:25

Honestly don’t know, I put DP in charge of the laundry admin a long time ago.

noworklifebalance · 11/05/2022 16:26

7 loads, 9kg machine

1x sheets
1x towels
3x colours (including uniform, PE kit, swimming kit)
1x whites (pre kids I didn’t bother separating but we have so much laundry that we can)
1x delicates

Hopeislost · 11/05/2022 16:31

2 adults 1 child

I usually do a load every day but often these are small/half loads

Average week:
1 x bedding or towels (alternate weeks)
1 x adult darks
1 x adult whites
1 x toddler whites
1 x toddler darks
2 x gym gear (we each go 4-5 times a week)
1 x swimming gear

VapeVamp12 · 11/05/2022 16:37

2 adults and one toddler DS

We do 3-4 all on a Saturday. Not during the week.

SNAFU247 · 11/05/2022 16:38

2 adults, 1 child and a baby.

I do about 6 loads a week. Mostly at weekends, but usually throw a load or two in on my WFH days. I don't do the towels separately - just bung them in with my colours wash, but would do a separate hotter wash for the bedding (for which I'm a complete grubby mare and do not do weekly like a lot of MNetters!)

Svara · 11/05/2022 16:40

One adult, one teen (and two cats which occasionally mean I wash bedding or blankets sooner than I would have).

One or two washes a week (occasionally three if washing mattress and pillow protectors etc but average less than two). One clothes and towels, one bedding and bathmats if needed.

You have enough underwear or teatowels to fill your machine every week?

zingally · 11/05/2022 16:43

2 adults, 2 primary school kids.

4 or 5 a week? Never really tracked it. Just when I feel motivated, I throw a load in. Don't do one every day certainly, but might do 2 or 3 over a weekend.
