Part 3 AIBU to wonder why so many people assume Johnny Depp is the good guy and Amber Heard is the villain

Following on from parts 1 and 2
Trial has gone 'dark' this week as the Judge is at a conference so it's going to be quiet on that front and I expect this thread will run slower than the previous two, however, there is still plenty of material and evidence from the last three weeks that we can 'cross examine'.

Any and all opinions welcome.

So my question still stands. Does standing in the witness box and describing a brutal sexual assault that didn't happen count as defamation? Or is the trial purely based on what she wrote and implied in the op-ed and/or the online headline that she knowingly shared that referred to it?

The trial is based on what she wrote, which makes it even more ridiculous that you think she would take the stand and humiliate herself with a fabricated story. She could barely get the words out. Shame on you.

When you are a narcissist, you aren't humiliated by lying.

Nice! So you think she's humiliating herself describing a sexual assault? And you think the shame is on me? I think you need to examine your attitude tbh.

If that actually happened, there's no humiliation whatsoever telling the world about it. That would only be if she made it up. If it's true, she deserves sympathy and support.

Keven Murphy is being named as a rebuttal witness now. This could be problematic for the Australian perjury case if he is allowed to discuss it and provide the emails under oath. I do find it bizarre that not believing Amber to be completely truthful equates to be a Johnny Depp fan and actually quite sad in a place of believing women, women are insulted by having an opinion as some sort of pathetic hero worshiping of a 58 year old man. Women are capable of holding various opinions, one that Depp is unsavoury and one that Amber at best is a fantasist and at worse a liar.

I think Warner Bros tanked her counter claim.

They have stated that "creative differences" was the reason and that Aquaman 2 was a reduced part, had nothing to to with JD or AW. They told her agent this at the time of booking.

I think JD's team are going to hammer away at her counter claim next week, delivering heavy blows.

True, but they said the same for JD.
They said AH Op Ed didn't affect thier decision about JD being in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film.

It's a bit of a wash.
To be honest I'm not surprised they said this. Even if it was true, there is no way they were going to admit it. Sticking to the "creative differences" excuse is much safer.

Both Warner Bros and Disney do not want thier names dragged into this. I think both corporations in the past have had bad publicity for hiring controversial actors/actresses.
In this case they are going to play it safe and say nothing controversial.

@Midlifemusings but there ARE photos of injuries. She was photographed with long cuts to her firearms just after the Australian incident, she was photographed with bruises after the Penthouse fight (same one cops admitted she was disheveled and her face red and puffy), there is a photo of her with bruises to her face and nose and a cut lip too.

It just isnt reasonable to say she photo shopped all of these and then when they are permitted in court say she must have painted them on instead.

This pic in particular is very believable. Her nose is very obviously swollen and bruised.

If he deliberately hit her, it was abuse. He has denied ever striking her except for an accidental bumping of foreheads while trying to restrain her.

Someone is outright lying and his name is Johnny Depp.

Amber getting into lifts with other men, not donating all the money at once or not being able to perfectly recite past testimony going back years is all a smokescreen to detract from the main issue which is did Depp abuse his ex wife ever, even once and if not, has her article therefore defamed him to his detriment.

As much as I love his movies and charm, I just cant believe he is innocent.

Nor do I believe she didnt indulge in drugs and fights with him where she struck him too. But he is getting away with it and that isnt fair.

Well we will all have to wait until next Friday when the judge will tell the jury (and us) what to base their verdicts on and some of us might be able to do that neutrally, based on what's been presented in court, and form our own opinion.

There's a lot of absolute nonsense in this thread. I can understand why people with opposing views are equally frustrated at the lack of intelligent analysis by many on social media especially of what's been presented in court so far.

At the end of the day, the jury's verdict will go one way but there will always be people who think they were wrong.

Midlifemusings · 21/05/2022 18:10

Amber's contract was only for 3 movies as Mera, starting with Justice League. She was in Justice League 1, Aquaman 1, and Justice League 2. They weren't contractually obligated to give her Aquaman 2. And they honoured the contract so it wasn't like they dropped her, they just didn't renew or extend the contract after Aquaman 2 - give they didn't really want her in it in the first place due to the poor chemistry, that makes sense.

I am not sure what the details were on Johnny's contract. It was so long ago now that he testified. Was there an option for Pirates 6 in the contract or would that have been a new contract / contract extension?

That is a doctored photo that the Sun used. We have already seen the actual original photo in the trial before being photoshopped.

The long thin cuts to her arms are self harm cuts. They are evenly spaced and of similar length and are exactly what you get from self harm and bare zero resemblance to the kind of injury you get from being dragged across jagged broken glass.

Boulshired · 21/05/2022 18:20

I don’t think this was ever about winning for Depp, it’s a defamation case in the land of a right of free speech. it was about getting Amber into court and exposing her. For the battle of the public he is winning at the moment and without a strong case next week her career is as dead as his was. The difference now is there might me studios who will now risk him.

mynamesnotMa · 21/05/2022 18:26

The bits of the thread I do read I find sickening how you seemingly excuse his behaviour yet vilify her. Everything about him screams arrogant bully. Minimising his behaviour by saying he has anger management issues but is so disturbing.

Aspiringmatriarch · 21/05/2022 18:27

How would you feel about having to go into that kind of detail in front of the entire world? How do you think most victims feel after a sexual assault? How do you think JD wanted her to feel (I'll give you a clue: he used the words 'humiliation on a global scale')?

Stop pretending you don't understand the obvious point I'm making. Of course she shouldn't feel ashamed or humiliated, but having to testify to that and having it broadcast would be a nightmare for almost anyone. It's why she could barely say the words. Many victims don't report because they can't face having to relive it all at trial. She was given no choice in the matter.

And I completely agree, she does deserve sympathy and support.

I think this is an important point. For companies - money is really the bottom line. If he loses the case but companies feel he isn't a liability and has public support and will bring people to the boxoffice / online streams and make them money - he will likely be employable again in some degree. They might test him in a role and see how he does. He also has a long standing work relationship wth Burton. While I don't know their relationship at the moment, they had remained friends until fairly recently. I wonder if Burton would give him a role if the thought he could do so without an attack by the MeToo TimesUp people. I think seeing women's rights groups, victims of domestic violence, speaking out for Johnny will help with that.

He is almost 60 and who knows what he actually wants. Maybe he wants to produce small independent projects, maybe he just wants to tour with his band, maybe he wants to spend more time with his kids. I don't know that for him this is about creating a pathway to starring in more roles. I think he just wanted to be heard and have a forum where he could respond to the allegations. Who knows what he wants from life going forward.

I could be! Having spent more than a decade working in inpatient psychiatry units - I have seen thousands of self harm injuries (of many varying types). I can recognize them pretty easily. I have also seen jagged glass self harm injuries.

Women are capable of holding various opinions, one that Depp is unsavoury and one that Amber at best is a fantasist and at worse a liar.

What leads to the inference that some women are thinking with their clits is that there is actually a fair amount of evidence against Depp. This is repeatedly minimised and Depp’s excuses swallowed whole.

The assertion that Heard is a fantasist does not appear to come from rational analysis of the evidence. That’s not to say she’s a perfect victim - she’s angry and volatile and has her own issues.

Now this bias may not be from tendresse for Depp, it may simply be from the same kind of knee-jerk internalised misogyny that appears in response to many domestic or sexual abuse cases particularly if the male figure is known/popular.

Aspiringmatriarch · 21/05/2022 18:37

Wow, just spotted that you're also a qualified psychiatrist? Amazing, even Dr Curry didn't pick up on narcissism!

Hmm not saying it’s not true but it’s not what your posting history indicates as a career.

I'm sorry but what utter bullshit!

You think women aren't capable of rationally analysing the evidence, just because their view is different to yours? I can't speak for anyone else but I can categorically state that my analysis is based on the evidence. Do I need to die on that hill because I'm a woman who disbelieves the extent of AH's claims?

And you're the one spouting about internalised misogyny? Hmm

Not exactly. I saw a compilation of a dozen or so photos of the cuts from over a few months as they healed. Hers are pretty standard in terms of self harm. There is really no way that being dragged over jagged broken glass by your hair could cause her injuries....although I realize you might believe she is bionic and her body functions like a non human species and so maybe you think glass cuts her differently too! Or maybe you think she can mind control the glass to cut her exactly as she wants it to. I haven't quite figured out what you think other than you don't believe in evidence or science or rational thought.

You would have to know me to know the many twists and turns of my career. It isn't a linear one at all, and I have been fortunate to do many things. I believe I have posted in other posts about having worked in mental health and in health care.

Midlifemusings · 21/05/2022 18:46

If Jennifer Howell does testify during rebuttal, her evidence will be very interesting. She has no connection to Johnny. Her connection was Amber and Whitney who both volunteered for her charity.

Boulshired · 21/05/2022 18:47

It’s not about being a perfect victim it’s about being truthful. Broken noses, beaten to the point of fearing for your life, did Depp cut of his finger with a phone/bottle, when was his first attack (quick change when it was reported outside court in the media), denying a photo has been photoshopped, donated versus pledged and we haven’t even got to rebuttal yet. That’s off the top of my head. That is what is changing peoples mind on whether Depp is guilty of the physical violence.

Midlifemusings · 21/05/2022 18:57

Amber testified in this trial that the photos Johnny entered of him with a blackish eye on their honeymoon were photoshopped and that he didn't have a black eye on the honeymoon. Today, someone who was at their hotel during their honeymoon and got pictures with them released the pictures. You can see some kind of mark under Johnny's eye. The picture is black and white so not completely visible as to what exactly it is.

This person zoomed in and coloured it. Original is also in the Twitter thread.
