To think Prince William preaching about climate change is another example the monarchy should not exist

Is he having a laugh? His wife and him parade around in designer clothes costing thousands of pounds, live on multiple properties, fly around the world often in jets and he is telling US to do our bit?

I had a chat with DH earlier and we thought it would be a good idea for the queen to hand straight to William but now I'm not sure either and just wish the lot of them would go away and cease to exist as a royal family.

They're taking the piss - when will we no longer stand for a monarchy?

A bit bizarre that everyone is so preoccupied worrying about the RF when their way of life and financial security is at risk… never mind the health of the planet for future generations….

If we do have restructuring in our economic system, food availability, capped carbon emissions etc brought in the RF will have no choice to follow suit as it will be law…

Right now there is guidance as to how we should behave but I’d say that will change.

@Choufleurfromage

"Go and live in a country with a president, or even better, a dictator, then post your incisive and profound thoughts"

Your comment is hilarious - why on earth are you comparing presidents and dictators?? You do realise presidents are democratically elected? Unlike dictators - and, of course, the royals.

Your conflation of the two words is an utter nonsense. What we need in this country is political education - that would turn the nation in to a bunch of republicans overnight which is why the status quo don't suggest it.

Of course i know they are elected, but thank you for the question.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 09/05/2022 18:14

I cannot believe people were taking zilla seriously 😂

AuxArmesCitoyens · 09/05/2022 18:17

If Charles and Di had been unable to conceive for any reason, we would be looking at King Andrew in a decade or so.

Zilla1 · 09/05/2022 18:19

@AuxArmesCitoyens Was it Cassandra who was cursed to see the future (speak sense) yet never to be taken seriously? I don't think that aspect of her character was fully developed in Only Fools and Horses?

Zilla1 · 09/05/2022 18:20

@AuxArmesCitoyens and imagine a HoS who was physiologically unable to sweat. Would be useful in negotiations with ne'er do wells.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/05/2022 18:53

If Charles and Di had been unable to conceive for any reason, we would be looking at King Andrew in a decade or so.

Frightening, although he's 'only' 12 years younger than Charles, so not like the next generation. It does raise the question as to what would happen if somebody who ascended to become king or queen were currently in prison! I believe (may be wrong) that the current monarch is considered above the law, but that could be slightly more hazy if they had been imprisoned prior to that. Would they be automatically disqualified? Or would they be granted an automatic pardon, bunting put out, tacky commemorative plates manufactured and everybody 'informed' that this particular person was still the only one who could rule the country, over all of the tens of millions of adults who had never been in prison, purely because of who their parent was?

“In a decade or so”…….

Have you seen the Queen lately?

We are stuck with Charles.

I’d prefer William.

America can keep Harry.

ThinWomansBrain · 09/05/2022 19:01

think having a monarchy is an outdated concept anyway (not that I want a Trump style president).
Missing point ot thread - I just watched the taped insert wondering why his bow tie was so wonky.

ThinWomansBrain · 09/05/2022 19:05

“In a decade or so”…….
Have you seen the Queen lately?

Presumably AuxArmesCitoyens was presuming a decade or so of Charles & Camilla - then King Andrew (& consort Fergie?)

HeyItsPickleRick · 09/05/2022 19:33

I think we need royalty like the queen in Bridgerton. She's condescending, hypocritical and fabulous. Not faux do gooders. Or no monarch at all.

Ah… I hadn’t really thought of that… we realistically could have been looking at Edward… but irrelevant as they did have two sons… so onwards to the Cambridges…

VladmirsPoutine · 09/05/2022 19:49

Kate would set fire to the earth if you abolished the monarchy before she gets a look in to be Queen.

mbosnz · 09/05/2022 20:02

I want to know how he can manage 'kei te pai', and not, 'Maori'. . .argh!

Basketet · 09/05/2022 20:17

I don't see why they need so many estates and range rovers, why they can't buy supermarket clothes and scale back their staff.

People are really really struggling financially, mentally and emotionally post covid and in this new scary era we find ourselves in. Their hypocrisy and lack of grasp on the realities of their 'subjects' lives is abominable.

Ratrick · 09/05/2022 20:25

Honestly the “omg, can you imagine if instead of having someone with the title ‘President’ instead of ‘Prime Minister’” comments are just so laughable.

Bleat on about tradition if you like, or tourism, or whatever other argument you think justifies the ongoing existence of the Monarchy, but you’ll have to do better than the President Blair shite.

RogueBorg · 09/05/2022 20:57

@AuxArmesCitoyens you’d be amazed some of the bullshit royalists come out with to defend this crock of shit 😄.

I’ve heard it all 😄

RogueBorg · 09/05/2022 20:58

@VladmirsPoutine 😂😂😂😂

Snowflakes1122 · 09/05/2022 21:01

RogueBorg · 09/05/2022 15:15

@Zilla1 I've jut read your comment that "tourism would stop without the RF"

GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

I think that's one of the funniest things i've read on a royals thread ever!

[https://ceoworld.biz/2019/02/18/the-uks-100-most-popular-tourist-attractions/#:~:text=The%20National%20Gallery%2C%20the%20Natural%20History%20Museum%20%28South,and%20Royal%20Museums%20Greenwich%20complete%20the%20top%2010.?msclkid=449a17d3cfa211ec988e88e48894a2b2]

So you think all the places listed above would just close without the royals. What a totally ludicrous argument!

Your irony detector is broken.

I don’t even buy supermarket clothes and I’m not overly affluent…

Besides cheap fast fashion is worse for the environment….

I remember trying out primark thinking I’d save a few bob, all feel to bits within weeks and had to buy new. That was the end of that.

RogueBorg · 10/05/2022 07:25

@Blossomtoes i know - read on 😄

OMG12 · 10/05/2022 07:32

well that argument applies to just about every public figure. Tbh I think the royal family have a lot more going for them than many of the Celebs and politicians who practice the same level of hypocrisy

TheKeatingFive · 10/05/2022 07:36

well that argument applies to just about every public figure.

Well no one else is given vast amounts of public money to lecture us on climate change, so there's that.

Tbh I think the royal family have a lot more going for them than many of the Celebs and politicians who practice the same level of hypocrisy

What is that? Let's start with Andrew.

malificent7 · 10/05/2022 07:38

Well according to the media if Kate wears the same dress more than once she's 'recycling.' Therefore she must be a green role model!
