To think Labour are hypocrites

Beergate. Turns out the event was planned. To think of all the slating Starmer gave Johnson. 🤔 This site's favourite newspaper, the Dailymail, has released a leaked memo, which might mark Starmer's downfall. If Johnson could survive, can Starmer?

@Pumperthepumper I know. I use the government as the target i should aim for but need to improve.

They do interview both parties don’t they? do they only interrupt one side

If you go into settings, there is a box you can tick (under accessability) which will highlight ironic posts for you.

Sorry, just realised I may need to tick this box myself.

save you time typing

Poor KS - should have thought twice about being sanctimonious I guess. He’ll have to go when they fine him. People in glass houses eh. 😊 - I actually thought KS was smarter than that. Apparently not.

As for Keir holding Boris to ridiculous standards... really? Is it ridiculous to expect a prime minister to uphold the laws that he himself has introduced? And to tell the truth about his actions to Parliament?

Exactly.

I don't know. If it is fully investigated and it is found that there was no wrongdoing, surely even the Tory press would find it hard to make much of that?

I'm probably being overly negative. It's just that politics is such a lowest common denominator business these days. The Tories are so bad that they can do nothing but try and drag everyone down with them and the opposition flounder around instead of realising that the path to power is putting aside their differences and working together.

Utter hypocrisy which is worse that the offence. Don't let those Labour scallywags try and weasel out of it by arguing about lying to Parliament and suitcases of booze and other distracting tactics. Fortunately there is at least one honest, campaigning newspaper devoted to ferreting out the truth about Labour misdeeds and letting the PM focus on important things like Ukraine and providing money-saving shopping advice to hard-pressed families unlike that unrealistic Labour airy fairy talk about tax cuts, windfall taxes and such like. You can tell they're in trouble as they can't even make their mind up about whether to cut taxes to people or add more to the tax burden on companies who are like people anyway. And Keir should now better, if an ex-DPP doesn't know what's legal and what isn't then how can a PM who works all hours?

im sure you must be being sarcastic lol , johnson has weasled out of more or less everything and lies everytime he speaks practically , fuck of with all that nonsense about honest newspapers ferreting out the truth about labour , they need to be ferreting out more truths about conservative misdeeds as they are the party in power , and please please dont make me laugh about johnson providing money saving shopping advice to hard pressed families , dont even go there .

but you are being sarcastic arent you ? tell me you are

Labour are always held to a much higher standard than Tories, even by Tory voters.

I'd never thought of this but actually now you've said it - I can see it.

The Tory's have always been seen to benefit the rich and powerful in society and get away with things because of this.

I think most know by now tbh which posters do these types of posts

I find the crying laughing that comes after funny in itself but there we go all different

thereisonlyoneofme · 08/05/2022 11:07

and you'd never know there was a war going on would you ?

Zilla1 · 08/05/2022 11:32

'you'd never know there was a war going on would you ?'

Exactly. The PM is busy helping Ukraine and saving the free world, practically on the front line, so I'd expect every patriotic person who wasn't a Russian bot to support the PM and stop going on about cost of living crises and suitcases of booze and Jennifer Accuri and bridges and parties and PPE contracts and fines, well except fines for Kier, obviously. We all know the naysayers are Kremlin Gremlins.

Well you would, because the Tories are using the Ukrainians as a human shield.

ilovesooty · 08/05/2022 11:54

Apologies - I've read a bit further now. 😳

Boood · 08/05/2022 11:57

Until they all acknowledge that the rules they subjected us to were excessive and cruel, and they themselves weren’t able to stick to them, I’ll think they’re all bloody hypocrites.

sashagabadon · 08/05/2022 11:57

a couple of weeks ago Keir used his full 6 questions at PMQ’s to ask Boris about partygate. All 6 questions! And this in the middle of Ukraine, cost of living etc etc . BBC radio 4 today show has mentioned party gate every morning at 6am for most mornings for the past 4 months. The reason it is repeatedly in the news is not because of Boris , it’s because of Boris haters who saw an opportunity to unseat him. Well it’s backfired massively and egg is on all their faces, deservedly so. And they can’t really complain about the media going on about beer gate now when they were happy to keep cake gate going for weeks.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes; glass house and stones etc etc spring immediately to mind.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 08/05/2022 11:58

Frazzled2207 · 08/05/2022 08:44

I really don’t think he did break any rules - a meal while working is totally different to a whole parade of pre-Meditated parties

agree it’s awkward but the police have been put under impossible pressure by the Tory party and media. As If they don’t have more important things to do
anyway if he does get a fine Starmer will resign immediately which will make Boris look even weaker. So he’ll get the last laugh.

All exactly the same excuses that were used to defend Boris et al.

And I doubt St Keir will resign any faster than Boris has!

I'm another who couldn't get too excercised over people who work in the same building staying late, dropping in on a leaving do, birthday drinks etc. But, if you are going to make political mileage out of it you really do need to be squeaky clean yourself. And Starmer, by his own standards, is not.

Tough. And yes, wasn't that good timing!?

Stripyhoglets1 · 08/05/2022 12:01

It's nothing like what was going on in Downing Street and the way its being made out its the same, and people falling for it, is exactly what the tories want.

The government clearly gave no shits about the rules applying to them throughout.

KS had a bottle of beer with food at the end of a days work in a room with the same people he'd been working with all day. Not a gathering of many different people from all over the place coming together.

But yeah of course they are "just the same". 🙄🙄

We deserve the crappy govt we have if the majority believe this serious whataboutery and spin that one minor beer is like numerous events, gatherings and parties!

Zilla1 · 08/05/2022 12:08

Recent posts show how unfair things are. The BBC are clearly biased against the government, repeatedly focusing on things some negative nellies say have gone wrong. And look at Parliament. PMQs gives everyone questions to have a go at poor Boris. When is the Leader of the Opposition's questions when the PM gets to ask 6 questions of Keir? Unfair, everyone would agree.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 08/05/2022 12:09

Except that is a fairly sanitised version of events, same as we initially heard from Boris.

Starmer was, we are now told, in a room that had been pre-booked specifically for an after work meal with a number of people. Not a working room, no work was done, etc etc. I don't see the difference. They all lied and they all broke the rules of the time.

It's the same crap, different day.

The Tories and their servants in the press are obviously terrified of him and have expertly used this crap to divert attention from the disaster the Tories had at the polls on Thursday.

Anyone who sees much of a connection between this event and the plethora of events at downing Street is either utterly stupid or kidding themselves.

The so-called smoking gun in the mail today just proves it was a meal for staff at the end of a long working day, as claimed.

👏👏👏👏
