Says the white person.

Different subject but you do all know that in all of human history we’re the very very far outliers not letting 6 year olds play unattended. Even today 6 year olds travel unattended to school in other countries- ‘civilised’ 🙄countries too.

There are good reasons we supervise our children, mainly traffic, but not knowing where a 6 year old is isn’t like not feeding or hitting them.

I have taught some of the most deprived white children in the UK. They have very little ‘privilege’ compared with most other children in the UK.
So-called ‘privilege’ is primarily based on socio economic factors.

I wish it wasn’t true. But it is. And also you are very rude.

White privilege isn’t about having money etc, it’s about not being discrimination against based on the colour of your skin. Whenever white privilege is mentioned people always start saying talking about poor white people. It’s not hard to understand that it’s not based on how well off someone is. It drives me potty

Soontobe60 · 08/05/2022 07:33

I don’t believe this for 1 minute.
if it did happen, then why did you do what your editor told your. Why didn’t you stand up and say no, you’re not being complicit in his racism?

Oh boy you are full of it.

Is that how you imagine it works in news? That you just tell your editor they’re “wrong”? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A580Hojas · 08/05/2022 07:52

The twins were the first thing I thought about when I woke up this morning. What a relief!

Lex345 · 08/05/2022 07:54

So glad they have been found safe!

Katya213 · 08/05/2022 08:00

To the people that brought colour into this terrible situation...honest to god, there are just mo ends to the things you will say.

Big clap to the local community and the police for finding these two children.

iloveeverykindofcat · 08/05/2022 08:02

@BlueberryPuff Exhausting isn't it. There are multiple homeless men in the city centre, so I guess male priviledge doesn't exist either.

I actually think most people do understand. They just don't care.

White privilege doesn't mean you aren't disadvantaged. It just means that the reason you are disadvantaged isn't because of your skin colour.

I'm from a low socioeconomic background, so I'm disadvantaged in that sense, but as a white female I wouldn't face judgement or discrimination purely on my skin colour the way a black man would.

2022 still have to explain this- the children you referenced may be disadvantaged but it’s not because of their skin colour

RivetingRara · 08/05/2022 08:12

Where were they found?

LilacWines · 08/05/2022 08:18

For those doubting the racism of journalism, I used to work on a consumer magazine and it was stated clearly that 'we don't put Black women on the cover because they don't sell as well'.

That was ten years ago, and I think things have shifted somewhat since then, but I don't doubt that lazy racism and an unwillingness to take risks and maybe give your audience a bit of credit played a part in why magazine covers were so white for so long. Pretty sure that Beyonce's covers with her twins would have sold reasonably well, though, as one example, and we are seeing more balanced coverage, but it's so naive to assume that there is no racism in the media.

LowlandLucky · 08/05/2022 08:20

At least once a week a child goes missing here in Scotland, there is never any mention of this on the BBC website, it is only reported on the Scottish SM, nothing to do with colour and everything to do with the MSM being London centric.

Diverseopinions · 08/05/2022 08:34

One of the good things of our modern times is that newspapers don't sell well, anyway, anymore, so fuck those cited editors and their racist attitudes.

The good thing about social media, perhaps, is that diversity and originals and people doing their own thing can gain a platform and be shared across the various communities. I think the offering is more wholesome and true than what used to be out there - all censored and shaped by a few big media outlets. Those awful editors may have believed (for a second) that they were responding to public whims and preferences, but they were really creating and reinforcing trends.

I don't actually believe that people come on public forums ( usually) and make up a load of stuff with specific examples. I expect that that awful story, and the other one, are sadly accurate.

I was about to add exactly this. At least once a week there are missing kid posts in the local forums that don't even get a mention in the local paper until 25 hours have passed.

Poor kids - what kind of muppet allows 6-year-olds to play outside by the street unsupervised? Hopefully this will be a wake-up call to them and other parents who don't always think things through.

I'm so glad they're safe!

A family along the road from me allow their young kids to play outside in the street all the time. The older one looks about 9 at most, the younger is in year 2.

Never seen the parents out supervising them, and they have no road sense. I drive down the road at a snail's pace now.

To be fair, there are different grades of missing. Circumstances are established very early by police and a level of urgency applied with regard to age and other factors such as whether they are especially vulnerable (suicidal or disabled), how out of character it is and so on.

I don’t suggest that the levels of urgency are those I personally agree with nor that they are always correct, we know for a fact that some “runaways” weee actually abducted and murdered.

But six years old is extremely young and the fact they are twins makes it more interesting. We don’t know the circumstances but perhaps there was a history regarding their safety and whereabouts that makes it more alarming.

Most child abductions are carried out by family members, stranger abduction is very rare. But stranger abduction usually leads to death within a short period of time hence the race to find the abductee.

Where were they found?

Same question - still nothing on BBC news.

I feel that if I am told by a black personality something has an element of racism to
It, I believe them. They have experience of it from birth, unfortunately, so who am I as a white person to tell them otherwise.

Hope the children are found to be safe very soon.

Tomeeornottomee · 08/05/2022 08:52

I went to bed last night thinking about the poor wee mites and the first thing I did this morning was check to see if they had been found. I lost my toddler once (many MANY moons ago) in a market. It was the scariest 15 minutes of my life. I don’t know how long the twins were missing for but those hours must have been torture. So glad they’re safe.

Tomeeornottomee · 08/05/2022 08:53

Torture for the parents I mean…

Lougle · 08/05/2022 08:55

The children have been found. Reported in the DM.
