I don't know why but from how it has been reported I assumed it's a custody case?

Oh no, how awful. Hoping they are soon home.

I wondered something similar. I absolutely agree that it would be much bigger news if they were white but I do also think the police probably know more and have been briefing the media to keep it low key.

SunnyShiner · 07/05/2022 23:07

Arguing on a thread with two missing children is sickening. Just stop.

Mumwantingtogetitright · 07/05/2022 23:09

I'm amazed that people still use that awful expression, "the race card". They might as well walk around with "I'm a racist" tattooed on their forehead.

It is absolutely reasonable to question whether the story has had less coverage because of the race of the missing children. That was my first thought tbh. (And I'm white, so I don't think I qualify for a card. Hmm)

I understand much better than you think, my comment was aimed at a PP who accused posters of "playing the race card" when they asked why the story wasn't on the national news.

wtf is wrong with people. Two innocent children have gone missing.

Nothing inappropriate was actually said.

SquirmOfEels · 07/05/2022 23:11

6 year old children going missing is news. Getting it in there as soon as it became clear they were genuine missing might have meant a member of the public saw it and spotted them before it got dark

They were noticed missing at 7ish, and there was only an hour or so of daylight left. The police would have acted swiftly, but even so getting a general alert out before sunset was unlikely.

It's on several media outlets now, appearing from just after 9pm

Cantsleepwontsleep000 · 07/05/2022 23:11

Can I step in and say- I work voluntarily for a Missing persons charity. And during my training we did lots of learning and research on press reporting of MP. Unfortunately it is factual that BAME get less favourable reporting than white. There is such thing as Missing white women syndrome. White, professional attractive female will get the most coverage.

EmergencyPoncho · 07/05/2022 23:13

There's a helicopter out looking for them, per Sky News. I don't know if that would tie in with a custody case. Whatever, I really hope they are soon found safe and well, maybe wandered off...

Comefromaway · 07/05/2022 23:14

But STILL nothing on the BBC. ITV yes, but not BBC

josil · 07/05/2022 23:15

Workyticket · 07/05/2022 22:51

Why isn't this all over the news? Literally nothing on BBC news website that I can see? Only the papers reporting it!

Because they're not white

I genuinely don't get your point.

New stories can literally be uploaded in seconds... and they are in many, many cases.

Cantsleepwontsleep000 · 07/05/2022 23:15

Awful dreadful situation. Thinking of the poor family members at this moment.

Bloodybridget · 07/05/2022 23:17

I imagine if it's not being widely reported, it's because the police have good reasons. They obviously know more about the circumstances than the general public.

TokenGinger · 07/05/2022 23:18

@Hospedia - Apologies if I misread the meaning of your comment. I get a bit tetchy when I see that term used, but understand now what you meant. My apologies x

Why would I do that? are you so ignorant you think POC get the same news attention as white people? Genuine question

It’s on the Mets own website and some other news channels. But the BBC as a PP said is the go to for news in this country, yet they have not reported it.

CoralBells · 07/05/2022 23:20

It's on all the news sites except the BBC which is always slower as they wait for more verification than other sites.

Doodar · 07/05/2022 23:22

sounds like a parent has taken them

justamumseekingadvice · 07/05/2022 23:24

Hope they are found safe and sound 🙏 although I must raise the question; at that young age and in the front garden which I’m guessing is probably not going to be enclosed and might be near a road of some sort, why did they leave them out there an hour by themselves before checking on them?!

ihmlsnwidhks · 07/05/2022 23:25

If it is a custody case that could explain why it's not massive news yet.

Careful. It's this sort of healthy debate and non-speculation that got the last thread deleted.

No apology needed but thank you all the same. If you read something that pings your radar it's absolutely right to call it out, if its a misunderstanding it gets sorted and if its someone being a dick then they learn that its not acceptable to be a dick Grin
