“Don’t put stuff in my bin”

Soubriquet · 05/05/2022 20:03

I know I’m going to be told I’m unreasonable but seriously, what is the issue with people putting stuff in your outdoor bin as they walk by?

I’m not talking about someone putting their entire garbage in your bin, but say a crisp packet or a poo bag.

Why is it such a problem? Your bin is not going to the special golden place. It goes to the same place as everything else.

Unclench. It’s a bin

I wouldn't have an issue tbh.

jytdtysrht · 05/05/2022 20:05

If you put a crisp packet in an empty bin, it may stick to the base and not come out when bin is next emptied. Then eventually the person will have to reach in and get it. Aggravating.

TulipCat · 05/05/2022 20:07

We have wheelie bins and they don't get taken if there is stuff in there not in a black bag. Also, depositing your dog's shit in someone's domestic bin is so antisocial. Put it in the proper place!

jytdtysrht · 05/05/2022 20:07

Plus I would not feel entitled to use something with someone else’s house number on it. Just leave people’s stuff alone. If “only” a crisp packet, put it in your pocket or a public litter bin.

st1cky · 05/05/2022 20:07

Wouldn't care about crisp packets or small general rubbish items but wouldn't want someone's dog poo/a nappy in my bin, just because of the smell really (even in bags it still stinks).

FuzzyPenguin · 05/05/2022 20:07

I don’t care about the crisp packet but I would rather not have people put their poo bags in there. I don’t want to have poo sat in there for up to 2 weeks and there is always the risk they don’t tie the bag properly so then flies, maggots etc..

But it’s outside?

You don’t take your bin indoors do you?

Crisp bag fine...dog poo not fine. Take it home

NannyR · 05/05/2022 20:09

I'd prefer people not to put dog poo in my bin - I don't produce a lot of rubbish, so I don't put my bin out for collection every fortnight, more likely every six weeks, I wouldn't want dog poo in my bin for six weeks.

jytdtysrht · 05/05/2022 20:09

Omg I thought you said “not” a poo bag. Fucking filthy putting that in someone’s bin. I store mine in garage so if it had been emptied, then some asshole stuck dog poo in, it would be living in my garage for 2 weeks.

LightningAndRainbows · 05/05/2022 20:10

If you can't carry dog poo to the nearest public bin or your own bin then you shouldn't have a dog

Soubriquet · 05/05/2022 20:11

Would your opinion change if your system was similar to mine?

We get recycling and rubbish picked up once a week. No wheelie bins here. Still use black bags

The bags are put out the night before/early hours of the morning.

pigsDOfly · 05/05/2022 20:11

Why on earth should someone have to accept someone putting a poo bag in their bin. It's disgusting.

I put poo bags in my bin because I have a dog but they really not something you'd want in your bin if you don't have a dog.

Also there's the issue of putting it in the correct bin. If you put it in the wrong bin it could cause problems for the bin owner.

Take it home and put it in your own bin.

Cervinia · 05/05/2022 20:12

Are you joking? Would you want someone to come and shit in your bin? You are taking the piss, take your dog shit home. It stinks, if it isn’t an issue to you, why can’t it go in your bin, you epitomise the CF term.

TaranThePigKeeper · 05/05/2022 20:13

I don’t want dog poo in my bin at all, smelling away, it’s horrible. Take it home, it’s yours, not mine.

I also object to this because people put stuff in the wrong bin. We have had plastic bottles put in our green waste bin, which the bin men then rightly refuse to take, leaving us to find another way of dealing with it for a fortnight. Grrrr.

Theyellowflamingo · 05/05/2022 20:13

The other side of that though - why is it such a big deal to carry your own sodding crisp packet or dog poo until you reach a public bin or your own house?

And what if I live on a path near a popular park where I have twenty or thirty dog walkers go past, daily - am I supposed to not mind half my bin taken up over the fortnight? As I say to my kids - would what you’re about to do be ok if everyone did it?

No. Don't put shit in people's bins.

LightningAndRainbows · 05/05/2022 20:14

And actually that's worse as a fox might open the bin bag and smear shit everywhere

Sistanotcista · 05/05/2022 20:14

Our recycling wasn’t collected because there was a “contaminated item” - someone had disposed of their KFC bucket and chicken remains in the recycling bin whilst walking past. We eventually had to take it to the dump ourselves as we could never catch up with recycling - the bins are only emptied every two weeks, so it’s a tight fit at the best of times, let alone when one collection is missed.

So, yes, I’m miffed if a passerby uses our bin :(

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/05/2022 20:14

Do not put faeces in people's bins.

Obviously.

Flavourflava · 05/05/2022 20:14

I agree with you OP. I don't get it. It's a bin that lives outside my house. I have no emotional attachment to its contents. If a crisp packet got stuck to the bottom, a crisp packet would live at the bottom for the rest of my life.

What about a poo?

gamerchick · 05/05/2022 20:17

I'd go nuts if someone put a bag full of shit in my bin. Scruffy fuckers, take it home and put it in your own Hmm

Or next doors cats.

They are an absolute menace and no bag is safe. I’ve seen several people chasing them off

OP posts:
Lockheart · 05/05/2022 20:18

I don't care what people put in my bin as long as they don't fill it and it's the right type of rubbish. I.e. no rubbish in recycling.

Don't give a damn if people put (bagged) dog poo in there either. It's a bin, I'm not exactly filling it with my dry cleaning.
