Yes I know she's interviewing Boris but for fuck's sake, let him get a word in edgeways, even worse when Adil Ray is on as well.

She's so rude

whatistheworld · 03/05/2022 14:51

just seen his claim that he introduced the bus pass - again LIES. please check fact check websites.

Tanith · 03/05/2022 14:53

She gave him plenty of time to speak. What she didn't do was allow him to lie and bluster and take control of the interview. She had to interrupt him to stop him from doing that: "...we'll get onto that in a minute, I just want a straight answer..."
It's a technique that Sir Robin Day used extensively to keep his politicians on subject. It's been sadly lacking in journalists for too long.

SueSaid · 03/05/2022 14:56

'He didn’t have to voluntarily show woeful ignorance of current culture. I’ve never watched Lorraine but I know who she is. He could - controversial, I know - just have kept his mouth shut.'

Current culture. Omg he doesn't know the daytime telly line up, so what! Many educated and very cultured people will have no clue who 'Lorraine' is. You're making out he'd never heard of The Queen or something.

He's very polite isn't he. Bet he'd love to say ffs can I actually get a word in edgeways or are you just here to make speeches?

PigletJohn · 03/05/2022 14:57

allowing him to answer the question is correct

but allowing him to evade, bluster and lie is not.

BovineJuice · 03/05/2022 15:01

She was brilliant. He either blusters through without answering the question or attempts to produce answers that are incredibly misleading eg police numbers, NI rates, etc. If he actually did interviews more often he'd be able to handle them better but clearly hiding in fridges is his preference.

the80sweregreat · 03/05/2022 15:02

I didn't see the interview today and I'm not a conservative voter , but I've heard about Elsie.

Energy bills are a huge concern, but even so , I also wouldn't want to ride around on public transport all day either, even if it is free in London for her to do this. Many people wouldn't do this as your much more vulnerable outside than indoors and although I'm not yet a pensioner myself , I know that I'd feel uncomfortable doing this to keep warm. .
I think she should get in touch with her energy provider first or look at how to try and cut back on the bills. It's affected everyone and although I'm sympathetic, I'm sure there is something better she could try than doing this plus we are coming up to summer too , which should help a bit. I don't wish to sound uncaring, it's obvious how much of a problem this is and I'm worried about the winter bills too, we all are. It's only going to get worse too. Our council tax went up this year too as well as the energy and food bills. Maybe she can't downsize either ( or even want to)
They would be better having Elsie on the show to talk to them directly about her concerns and how much she is now paying and so on, that might have hit home a bit better than just telling BJ what she does ( because we know he'll just go on about the forty pounds 'refund ' in the autumn, which you have to pay back , or pretend to care or whatever or how it's ok because she can travel for free because she is a pensioner)

dottiedodah · 03/05/2022 14:34

I think the interview was one sided.Susanna was not letting the PM speak .She was after his throat! I am no fan of BJ but he needs to come back with an answer surely."Elsie" if she exists lives in a band f house yet cant afford her energy bills!

Are you aware of what sort of property would be in band F in some areas in the country? I hope we hear more about Elsie in the coming days and I’m sure then people might realise that she’s not living in a 6 bedroom large luxury house that she owns. There is a big difference in what band F is in different parts of the country.

I did not watch it, but if Mr Johnson was given a hard time then good. Though this presumably means it will be years again before he does another interview with Good Morning Britain.

Please everyone remember to vote on Thursday if you have local elections.

It wasn't so much a hard time as a good talking over. She knows how waffly he is, how long he takes to get an answer started and, instead of letting him make himself look like a pillock, she was angry all over him.

Put simply, she didn't give him enough rope!

HarrietPierce · 03/05/2022 15:05

If all the Tory fans on here don't like the interviewing style of Susannah Reid on GMTV, just switch over to BBC Breakfast; they go totally along with the Tory narrative.

Speak for yourself. That is absolutely NOT the consensus of opinion. There's plenty of people on here saying she didn't do well.

Not nearly as many saying she did do well

PeekAtYou · 03/05/2022 15:09

Why is it never considered rude when a politician doesn't answer a question ? The viewers/electorate deserve an accurate answer to questions.

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 03/05/2022 15:18

I liked how she got him to confirm that he wasn't a liar and was trustworthy and then called him out on his blatant lying in response to her subsequent question. "We've done everything we can ..."

Luculentus · 03/05/2022 15:23

Such nonsense, OP. She didn't let Johnson waffle and bluster to avoid answering questions, and she didn't let him waste time with his slightly pathetic attempt at a Churchill impression. In other words, she did her job. Which is a damn sight more than Johnson did.

Luculentus · 03/05/2022 15:28

As I write, the Daily Mail's finest are frantically busy trying to dig up the dirt on Elsie, and making it up where they can't find it.

And plenty saying she did do well. No I think Rousette can speak for many many people who watched that interview.

Boris was shown up by Sussana for the liar and blustering fool he is. She kept him to the script as he tried to waffle on about how wonderful the Tories are and all they've done for us, which is precisely sod all.

Roll on Thursday. This government needs to be shown enough is enough.

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 03/05/2022 15:52

Challenging a politician is not rude. A PM consistently lying to the people he's meant to represent is way pearl-clutching ruder than a journalist probing. Choose the right target.

He knows who the Queen is all right, she’s just the most important person he lies to.

SR conducted a perfectly well executed interview given the circumstances and the person she was interviewing imo.

I agree. Johnson’s favourite trick is to sidestep the questions and make some, usually inaccurate, claim about how wonderful the tories are. She gave him plenty of chances to answer the questions and stepped in when he tried to go off on a tangent as he does all the time in the House of Commons.

I'm sure he'd love to get a word in edgeways so he can blather irrelevant guff like he always does at PMQs.

Already at it on this thread. Elsie is rattling around in a very large house instead of downsizing. Selfish woman has brought it on herself apparently.

It’s desperate isn’t it. It really does show how uncaring Tories can be. This is an elderly woman, not eating properly and cold in her home. How the fuck can people feel anything but sad and disgusted at the situation?

SueSaid · 03/05/2022 17:43

'This is an elderly woman, not eating properly and cold in her home. How the fuck can people feel anything but sad and disgusted at the situation?'

Let's hope she doesn't live in Croydon where meals on wheels have been discontinued by their Labour run council. Labour clearly don't care about hungry, elderly people.

I'm disgusted at the energy companies who have doubled their energy prices, they are the villains here not Johnson.

mustlovegin · 03/05/2022 17:50

Indeed. I wouldn't imagine he'd have known 😆
