Why/why not?

Interestingly some posters are reassured by having a male relative or friend... yet, in the majority of cases, the perpetrator is someone who is already known to the child, not a stranger.

Because strangers get less access to children.

MN is like peeking through the keyhole of some deranged universe, I must admit it's addictive just to see some responses and chuckle. I have still to meet any one in real life who admits to views on posted here. Of course I would let a male look after my kids just like I would any female after I had checked them out first.

There are truly some deranged mother's on here.

Profanasaurusrex · 29/04/2022 13:03

An unknown male ie through an agency etc no I wouldn’t.

A known male, who the children like and I trust yes I would.

same goes for a female babysitter. It’s all about how well I know and trust then, not about their gender.

TenoringBehind · 29/04/2022 13:07

I always used a male babysitter (teenage boy) for my boys when they needed one because they much preferred him to the female alternatives we tried.

Indicatrice · 29/04/2022 13:08

So no, I never would. Of course it's not all men, but it's almost exclusively men.

This sums it up.

Nice misogyny there.

And it’s ‘mothers’, not ‘mother’s’.

HTH.

Justhereforthis · 29/04/2022 13:11

*the trusted local man was my babysitter
(my fear and reluctance to share this publicly got the better of me!)

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/04/2022 13:12

Don’t know why women can appreciate that men are more likely to abuse women than the other way round, but to point out that men are more likely to abuse children is sexiest?!

ComDummings · 29/04/2022 13:12

Nope.
Yeah yeah not all men blah blah blah.
But much more often it is men.

johnandsally · 29/04/2022 13:13

Out of interest, for those who said no, would you let them go to a sleepover/day trip or similar with a school friend who only had a Dad?

No but my kids don’t sleep over school friends anyway 🤷‍♀️

If someone thinks I’m deranged for minimising risks to my children, I have no fucks to give. Not one.

This is difficult for me, because I was raised by a single father. It would depend on how well I knew the family- but that would be the same for a two or single parent family

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/04/2022 13:17

I wouldn't hire any babysitter, either male or female. I don't want any stranger looking after my child alone.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/04/2022 13:17

If someone thinks I’m deranged for minimising risks to my children, I have no fucks to give. Not one exactly this! It’s like when people get mad on here because I wouldn’t date a bisexual man, or don’t find x character trait about a man attractive- you don’t have to give everyone an equal opportunity to have access to your child to prove to everyone you’re not discriminating.

Neverreturntoathread · 29/04/2022 13:19

Nope, never. Too many paedophiles use babysitting as a route to children, paedophiles are almost always male, therefore, I only use female babysitters.

I’ve personally known 3 male teachers who’ve been fired for inappropriate touching of female children (one’s now serving 15 years in prison for offences against children). Never had a problem with our female teachers.

I don’t rely on DBS checks - all that means is you haven’t been caught yet.

True, but the risk is still vanishingly small. Your kids are at far more risk of harm every time you put them in the car.

Seraphinesupport · 29/04/2022 13:20

never in a million years.. no one with a penis and no one with a male brain. not even a male to female would be able to look after my kids.

I never get this argument, so we shouldn’t minimise risks because there are other risks ? 🙄... still never gonna leave a man I don’t know and trust to babysit my children.

Lhddujvf · 29/04/2022 13:22

Not a chance.

Princetopple · 29/04/2022 13:22

Not somebody I didn't know. But that goes for women too. But my dad, my brother in law, my older son, then yes. If I was extremely desperate and for whatever reason not a single person I knew well was able to babysit, I would ask a female neighbour. Not a male one.

ComDummings · 29/04/2022 13:23

CapMarvel · 29/04/2022 13:19

So we shouldn’t take any precautions about anything because there are other risks in life?

Fishwishy · 29/04/2022 13:25

I would anything else is sex discrimination denying someone a job on the basis of a protected characteristic.

Yorksirenotsorose · 29/04/2022 13:26

😂Thanks for all the replies and quotes. Good to see the MN echo chamber is still working at 100% capacity. God forbid your precious kids ever meet a male and have to be trusted with them.

brokengoalposts · 29/04/2022 13:26

Yes, I would. I wouldn't use anyone I didn't know or trust, so sex isn't the thing which would stop me using them. The answers in here giving a blanket no, are depressing. Don't you people know any trustworthy men?
