Oh shall we do that with Christmas & Easter too?
the point is having days that as a nation we celebrate together.
I'm in my 50's for the Silver Jubilee we had an amazing street party, us kids spent months colouring in Union Jacks, which my Dad strung across our cul de sac, he painted our garage door as a Union Jack.
They organised fancy dress parade & other games, we all dressed up in red/white/blue for races. We had lunch in our garden (loads of tresses tables). School had a fun day, dress up, various games, competitions (I won best decorated bike)
fantasic memories because the who street pitched in & built up to it for months.
it wasn't ignored, it wasn't 'ordered online'. - I miss those days.
I appreciate your POV but I don't agree with it. One of our neighbours was a nurse & had to work, my parents & another neighbour looked after her kids (her DH was a pilot & away) & she joined in when she came home.
