People (from what I am reading in a variety of places on the internet) seem to have decided this even before the trial has been concluded. Presumably, we won't know all of the evidence until the trial ends.

The previous trial in the UK concluded that there was indeed evidence that JD was indeed a wife beater. How come everyone feels that they are sure previous trial had the wrong verdict?

In all of the evidence available from this case and the UK one. Please can someone show me any proof that Johnny Depp abused Amber Heard. Not from tabloids, not because she said so. But actual proof that he physically hit her.
I'll wait.

He says it is based on a Monty Python joke.

Personally I've never heard anything less funny in my life, I don't care what it's supposed to reference.

I never found Monty Python funny.

Read the U.K. judgement and the answer to Depp's request for appeal. I believe they're both linked to in this thread, or failing that the other one on AIBU.

There's plenty in there. I'll warn you though, I'll take you more than an hour to go through it all, it's very detailed.

there are big differences now than the uk case as Amber is going to find it particularly difficult to be seen as a credible witness, it’s clear even some of the uk case is going to come out and haunt her. She has used charities for her own publicity inside and outside of the courtroom that will not go down well. Whereas Depp admitting head butting on tape it is now just as believable that as he has stated it was an accident because the doubt Amber has created in her testimonies leaves much more space for belief that he is telling the truth. I don’t think either will win in court, Depp so far is definitely winning in credibility.

He has no credibility. Depp is only winning with his fans, his paid supporters and people who don't read or understand court transcripts.
Abusive men using the court system to traumatise their victims needs to be stopped.
And all the abuse apologists need to remember that their sycophantic tweets and messages don't affect Depp at all. They don't affect Amber. What they do is send a clear message to every victim of abuse that society doesn't give a shit about them if their abuser has money or fame or is male.
I worked with a DV charity. The public response to this case is triggering for many women. It's also triggering for people who have addicts in their family or circle.

The judge seems proper suspect, he wrongly send a doctor to prison for manslaughter and he's son works for Rupert murdoch who owns the sun, there is flow chart at bottom of this article about it not 100% its completely true but definitely sounds suspect

I think there's pretty strong evidence after the plane incident, from his texts apologising to her and the texts between Amber and Johnny's assistant Stephen Deuters (who had been a witness on the plane):

SD: Think he's just texted you. He's incredibly apologetic and knows that he has done. He wants to get better now. He's been very explicit about that this morning. Feel like we're at a critical juncture.

SD: He wants to see you so much. He's distraught.

AH: Obviously he has no idea what he did or the extent that he did it. If someone was truly honest with him about how bad it really was, he'd be appalled. I'm sad that he doesn't have a better way to really know the severity of his actions yesterday. Unfortunately for me, I remember in full detail everything that happened.

SD: He was appalled. When I told him he kicked you, he cried. It was disgusting. And he knows it. He's a little lost boy. And needs all the help he can get. He is so very sorry, as he should be.

I mean I guess hitting rather than kicking but those messages are pretty damning to me.

This was the last text in that exchange I believe. Maybe not as conclusive since it's her word alone but it sounds like she's referring to something he is already aware of:

AH: He's done this many times before. Tokyo, the island, London (remember that?!), and I always stay. Always believe he's going to get better...And then every 3 or so month, I'm in the exact same position.

oh and now we're back to running down the U.K. judiciary 🤣

Depp requested an appeal, it was not granted.

I think it’s frightening how social media and TikTok’s/sound bites/snippets/ etc can influence how people think - reinforces them wanting their crush to be the injured party. I don’t imagine many people have read the judgements and I’d like to know how much is truth v allegation but is now accepted as ‘Amber lied’ - about what? All I read is ‘she lied’ but not about what.
they are both fallible clearly and I’m not Team anyone - what worries me of what I’ve read and seen doesn’t match these sound bites

I haven't been paid and I'm also not a fan of him and his movies , I am just listening to and reading the evidence which is clearly showing AH abusing JD and that makes me not trust what AH says so I'm believing him over her.
The problem is if u r wrong and JD is the abused and AH is abuser then what message to send to abuse victims???

TheKeatingFive · 29/04/2022 16:04

Also, it's not getting much airtime, but what about the text where she says he ' kicked the shit out of her' and he replied 'I'm so sorry baby i won't do it again'.

Im paraphrasing, but you get the gist. Why would he apologise and say he won't do something again if he didn't do it in the first place?

TheKeatingFive · 29/04/2022 16:06

Absolutely.

most of them don't seem to have a solitary clue what the case is about either.

Boulshired · 29/04/2022 16:06

As the victim of domestic abuse at the hands of their mother what is triggering is the minimising of any violence even violence of women. Amber in what appears to be an extremely toxic relationship piggy backed metoo for her own gains in both financial and publicity.

The same judge refused the appeal which is pretty obvious so it wasn't like someone else looked at it and was able to make that decision!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 29/04/2022 16:06

Both of them were/are abusers. If you refuse to admit that Heard, as well as Depp, committed abuse then you're an abuse apologist.

After three weeks nothing has materialised yet!

It just keeps circling back to JD does drink/drugs = obviously an abuser

TheKeatingFive · 29/04/2022 16:09

no it wasn't. If you'd actually read it you'd know that.

Aspiringmatriarch · 29/04/2022 16:10

Sorry, just to follow up on previous post. This was the email Depp sent Heard after the plane incident.

Once again, I find myself in a place of shame and regret. Of course I am sorry. I really don't know why or what happened, but I will never do it again. I want to get better for you and for me. I must… I can’t live like that again and I know you can't either. I must get better and I will. For us both starting today. I love you again. I’m so sorry, so sorry.

I think this is interesting as well because it indicates he doesn't actually remember things. He had to be told he'd kicked Amber. He refers in a message to Paul Bettany to being 'in a fucking blackout, screaming obscenities and assaulting any fuck who got near'.
So we have massive substance use, anger and aggression, memory loss, and a witness to an assault.

Maybe that's because we haven't actually heard Amber Heard's side yet? It's hardly likely his team are going to bring in the evidence against him! And I have responded earlier with what I think is convincing evidence.

I'm sorry - insulting, not assaulting!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 29/04/2022 16:23

I don't know anything about them (in this context, I know about them as actors) as I avoid any sort of celebrity stuff usually, but this current court case has caught my attention due to the vast amount I'm seeing on tiktok.

From a complete unknown perspective, it certainly seems like she's a psychopath who has abused him and set him up repeatedly (like filming him without his knowledge and trying to goad him into a reaction etc).
It certainly paints him very much in as a victim.

That said, I also think it's very clear how one sided this all is. Even her 'damning' audio recording where she tells him the world won't believe him if he says he's a victim of DV, she clearly says that they've had 'fair fights'. To me that means if he has been a victim then so has she...and since he is physically bigger and stronger than she is, then he is more capably of causing injury than she is surely?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 29/04/2022 16:30

I never found Monty Python funny.

Admittedly, I do. But the Monty Python team were not making twisted jokes about the defiling of burnt-out corpses. They were satirising unmerited witch hunts against women, and the herd mentality which often leads people to join them and bay for blood like sheep.

It's a pity Johnny Depp had absolutely no sense of irony when he used that as 'inspiration' for his repulsive texts. I'm also fairly certain it's not a comparison Cleese et al will thank him for.

He really doesn't give the impression of being too bright a bloke.

Indeed. And whatever the rights and wrongs of both sides of the case, this is something I find hard to forgive.

This is what I mean - you’ve picked this up somewhere and now repeat it as a truth.
the court of appeal rejected his application to appeal against the judgement. These documents are all linked up thread.

OnlyHippyInTheVillage · 29/04/2022 16:42

This is an Amber Heard fan. It's bias. And is based on the UK judgement. Which is based mostly based on Amber's word...
