People (from what I am reading in a variety of places on the internet) seem to have decided this even before the trial has been concluded. Presumably, we won't know all of the evidence until the trial ends.

The previous trial in the UK concluded that there was indeed evidence that JD was indeed a wife beater. How come everyone feels that they are sure previous trial had the wrong verdict?

I honestly don’t k ow why the justice system bothers hiring trained and experienced Ed professionals when they could just pop onto Mumsnet and ask random posters to lead the system seeing as they know better 🤣

I wonder what kind of evidence people want before they accept that Depp is an abuser. Is it a case of ‘pics or it didn’t happen’? Is the video of him in a drunken rage smashing wine glasses round the room not enough for you? What would you say to a woman who came on AIBU to say her husband behaved like that?

agreed. It’s disturbing how attached so many people are to the fantasy that men are inherently good and women are inherently bad.

And we already have video footage but no, the misogynists stick doggedly to their narrative.

We don’t seem to have evolved as a society since the days of the Mike Tyson rape when the narrative was that the tiny young woman “deserved it”.

TheKeatingFive · 25/04/2022 22:22

If I was being physically abused by someone close to me I might well say something vaguely similar in texts to a friend.

You'd say you want to fuck their burnt out corpse? Really, you'd say that?

God sounds like you're a monster too.

PlasticineMeg · 25/04/2022 22:25

Isn’t it interesting how the same people who are saying “well there’s NO EVIDENCE he was violently (despite a video of him being violent) are the same people going “Ha! She ADMITTED to hitting him, case closed, she’s awful”.

the naivety around interised misogyny is absolutely astounding.

absolutely

ENoeuf · 25/04/2022 22:30

Someone suggested we watch it so I’ve just been streaming it. My god it’s boring. I can’t believe so much money is being wasted on these egos (I appreciate AH has little choice) - honestly they’ve got a bloody butler on there now. Who weirdly has said he took photos of notes JD left for AH.

Yes it’s highly disturbing.

on the other hand, if THEIR DAUGHTER was dating a guy frequently high on drugs and alcohol, smashing up rooms, who sent texts to his mates joking about setting her on fire and then fcking her burnt corpse I bet they wouldn’t then be saying “oh he was only kidding! Just a silly joke- we all go overboard sometimes tee hee!”. My guess is it wouldn’t be so “understandable” then….

Yes I agree, the earlier coverage was much more interesting.
I would not be happy if I was AH and that was my legal team though, her lawyer objected to an answer to his own question!!

The judgement in the U.K. trial is worth a read, if anyone would like to educate themselves beyond snippets picked up on SM.

Its really long and detailed, something like 12 incidents were judged to be assault on Heard (so wifebeater being an accurate descriptor) and 3 of which she was judged to be reasonably in fear of her life.

Thank you for sharing this link to the UK judgment. The contrast between the descriptions of the incidents the judge found to be true and the perception I had picked up from reading current headlines is truly shocking.

ENoeuf · 25/04/2022 22:37

^^ it just feels so wasteful when you have Ukraine, cost of living, Syria, Afghanistan. - endless real painful life and then this bloated fool pursuing his agenda through the courts.

Newrunner29 · 25/04/2022 23:02

So I'm reading the transcript and what I'm confused about is where is the evidence of these incidents? I mean is this just what she is telling court? Is this her just listing what JD has done? I'm not saying this as a JD fan . I'm not either fan I'm just confused as to the he abused her 12 times? Well did he really or is it what she claims?

hettie · 25/04/2022 23:04

Because Depp (or his team) hired experts to spread misinformation on social media (watch the David baddeil doc on hate and social media....).

Snaketime · 25/04/2022 23:06

Because we have done our research, listened to the audio tapes and not read everything we know about the case in the media.
Honestly give the audio tapes a listen, they will change your mind.

It is what she says. She has no evidence at all, no photos nothing. There are lots of photos of her after the supposed beatings with no injuries at all.
Oh and as far as the UK case, the judges son worked for Rupert Murdoch and when they went to appeal the 3 judges said that it was obvious that Amber lied but because he admitted to accidently headbutting her during an incident they couldn't reverse the decision.

This is what I thought, listing what she tells court isn't proof he abused her. I have no idea if he did too, it was obviously a very toxic relationship, I've been watching this trial and she isn't coming across as credible. I find the make up brand explaining it wasn't in stock at time, very interesting! Also her weird smiling with her lawyers then suddenly frowning when looks up bizarre,

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/04/2022 23:19

Of course there is evidence. There are witnesses that gave evidence, there are emails, texts, medical records, photos, videos and so on. It is then up to the judge to decide whether each claim of domestic abuse is proven to the civil standard. In 12 out of the 14 claims the judge decided they were proven. The court documents are long and detailed. It's not just Heard making claims and the judge accepting them at face value.

Newrunner29 · 25/04/2022 23:23

Also as I'm still reading there is lists of witnesses who seen AD around 22nd May 2016 when she said JD throw a phone at her, all of them saying there was no marks on her face and she wasn't wearing make up , including door men and other people around them not friends.

Newrunner29 · 25/04/2022 23:23

I'd also imaging those laying all the blame on JD if it was THEIR son being hit, being told he wouldnt be believed, false accusations of him hitting her so often they got good at covering it up . They wouldnt quick to defend her actions

Maybe his alleged assults on her was self defense . We dont know

Probably not. But we dont know

Bunty55 · 25/04/2022 23:33

My friend's daughter is friendly with a girl whose mum was a P.A to someone very well known and the general consensus of opinion is that Amber Heard is nuts.

Thank goodness your daughters friends mums employer knows the truth! If only they had been able to tell the judge in the UK court case they could have saved a lot of time hearing all that evidence, considering all that legal gubbins and writing a detailed summary of their judgement.

Seriously?? Is this what passes for rational thought these days??

it is so interesting to me that this is your focus, not the teams of evidence of JD’s violence.

The phrase clutching at straws springs to mind.

Exactly ! LOL
