I don't care what shade your politics are, you should be disgusted by the Daily Fail article claiming that Angela Raynor 'distracts' Boris Johnson by crossing her legs because her debating skills aren't as good as his.

Agree @Whatiswrongwithmyknee we most definitely cannot loose the ability to be able to define a woman.
It's an extremely important issue.

Samcro · 24/04/2022 12:46

i feel sad that people will still vote for them. it seems what ever they do, what ever rules they break, how they treat people, how sexist /racist disblist they are. as long as they pretend they know what a woman is(as long as they don't see their legs) people will still vote for them.

Blossomtoes · 24/04/2022 12:46

I don't .That's not the point. The really just need to avoid taking the overtly anti-women action which labour are taking

What is the point? Johnson has made a throw away comment which he most certainly didn’t think about and which all other evidence shows to be meaningless - clue, who did austerity predominantly throw under the bus? What action is Labour taking that indicates they intend to do the same thing?

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/04/2022 12:52

ChiswickFlo · 24/04/2022 12:24

@Whatiswrongwithmyknee

The tories will say whatever you want whilst it is expedient for them

DO NOT expect them to back it up with action

Only some of them do and it's a bit fluid. So Penny Mordaunt Minister for Trade is full on TWAW. Jamie Wallis, the UK's first trans MP (with a dodgy as fuck history) is the Conservative member for Bridgend. PM Johnson refused to say that only women have a cervix when asked by GB News. And Crispin Blunt is another TWAW Tory MP who reports women on the internet for tweeting about JKR.

PlasticineMeg · 24/04/2022 12:53

YANBU, the article is gross, but I take umbrage with people telling me what I should be disgusted by. That in itself is misogynistic. It’s only ever women who are told what they MUST be feeling

Seems so

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 24/04/2022 12:56

- clue, who did austerity predominantly throw under the bus

Thing is if TRAs get their way we won't know who they threw under the bus will we? 'women' will not longer mean women and there will be no language to group together the people (women) who austerity threw under the bus. Labour are actively working to remove this language. If you can't see the problem that will cause for female political action, then I can see why you don't get why people are going to vote for the despicable tories. It doesn't matter whether BJ is just using this as a vote winner. It is such a vital protection for all women across all future generations, that sadly I see no other viable vote to make. Labours direction will simply 'fix' all sex-based inequalities by hiding them.

PupInAPram · 24/04/2022 13:08

The suggestion was that she needed to do it because his debating skills are so superior. The fact is that despite his parents buying him the best education money can buy and Angela Rayner leaving her Comprehensive school early without qualifications, she more than holds her own against him on the floor of the House.

Christ alive.

I will not encoring labour despite having done so all my life as they don’t know what a woman is. But I won’t be voting Tory. How could anyone?

Anyway back to the original question YANBU and it’s appalling though as others have said reflects on BJ not AR

catgirl1976 · 24/04/2022 13:26

Voting not encoring ffs

but I wouldn’t give them an encore either to be fair

SpindleInTheWind · 24/04/2022 13:37

Being able to define the term 'woman' unambiguously is a fundamental building blcok of political argument; and yes, it is likely on the whole that the Tories won't change it.

But some of them have a had a bloody good go at it. @TooBigForMyBoots mentioned the MPs Penny Mordaunt, Jamie Wallis and Crispin Blunt. We can also add Maria Miller and Caroline Nokes, former and current Chairs of the Women and Equalities Select Committee.

And I do think Johnson was wavering, saying whatever shit he thought would be popular - the fact he pretty soon stopped doing that is very illuminating.

sst1234 · 24/04/2022 13:38

Exactly. Only a moron would think that this story is designed to make Boris look good.

Blossomtoes · 24/04/2022 13:46

Labour are actively working to remove this language

Do you have some evidence for this?

theDudesmummy · 24/04/2022 13:47

I like this tweet

"blame a woman for simply existing because the blancmange leading the country is an easily distracted pervert” says a misogynistic flannel"

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2022 13:57

absolutely disgusting - the article also is at great pains to point out what an lowly background she has - how she was a care worker etc - like she's some working class hussy using her knickers to distract the PM. Also inferring that the PM - as a man - regularly checks out women's crotches and is totally distracted by his hormones - driven to distraction by a womans legs - the whole things is so grim

and BJ's tweet has been retweeted verbatim by other Tory MP's - suggesting it's a press office memo rather than a deeply held view

Andouillette · 24/04/2022 13:58

The people on whom it reflects badly are 1. any idiot MPs who said anything like that 2. The Daily Scum for printing it. It does not reflect badly on 1. Tories generally who will mainly be every bit as sickened as anybody else, I know I am 2. the PM who has no actual involvement at all and 3. most importantly Ms. Rayner who has done nothing to warrant this crass nonsense. For the avoidance of doubt I would say exactly the same if it was a female Tory and the leader of the opposition.
If any MPs can be proved to have had a hand in this scurrilous misogyny they should be punished.

ghostyslovesheets · 24/04/2022 13:58

I liked this tweet from the secret Tory:

Just crashed into the front of a Tesco Metro because I saw a woman with some legs. Presumably she grew them to put me off because I won a debate about ladette culture at the Oxford Union in 1995

jcyclops · 24/04/2022 14:02

This story reveals more about the despicable MoS bosses David Dillon, Ted Verity, Paul Dacre and the non-dom owner Jonathan Harmsworth (Viscount Rothermere). All politicians are used to looking at c*nts across the aisle in the commons.

Hotzenplotz · 24/04/2022 14:04

Absolutely disgusting.

Blossomtoes · 24/04/2022 13:46

Labour are actively working to remove this language

Do you have some evidence for this?

Plenty - have you not been following what Kier Starmer said about women and what he did to Rosie Duffield?

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/04/2022 14:34

Rosie Duffield will not cross the floor though, despite having been personally invited to by Boris Johnson. That should tell you something. Paying lip service to women should not earn the GC vote for the Tories.

Not everyone is a single issue voter.

Why 'should it not'? Rosie is trying to move the labour party on from the male supermacist position it has taken from within the party. This does not necessarily make the statement you think it does. I can see that you won't agree with me on this and fair enough but for me, lip service or not, it is vital that the concept of women is not allowed to be eroded as that throws all women under the bus in so many ways and for so many generations that the outcomes will be catastrophic and I can't vote for any party (labour, lim dem, green) which are actively working to remove the language needed for meaningful political actions against female oppression.

Unsure33 · 24/04/2022 14:40

So why are we blaming the tories ? How do we know that this is just not a “ made up “ article by the Daily Fail ?

they can say what they want without proving a source .

AppleKatie · 24/04/2022 14:43

None of their words translate to actions that aren’t self serving.

we can only hope that with enough sunlight, Labour will change their stance if and when they get a sniff of power.

I certainly wouldn’t vote Tory counting on them not personally throwing each and every one of us under the bus.
