I don't care what shade your politics are, you should be disgusted by the Daily Fail article claiming that Angela Raynor 'distracts' Boris Johnson by crossing her legs because her debating skills aren't as good as his.

OP posts:

I am seriously considering never voting for another man so long as I live, yes there are plenty of women with some dodgy misogynistic views, but for me it's my little protest. Hopefully I won't have to choose between a good male candidate and a dodgy female candidate. Although I can't remember the last time I saw a really good male candidate, maybe never

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/04/2022 22:41

Has PM Johnson tweeted anything about the serious level of sexual assault being investigated? Has Nadine Dorries?

What's the deal with the random capitals? I've seen it in a few places recently - is it meant to signify/convey something?

I'm sure you know, but I'll help you out with wiki:

Like the new bill they're about to pass to make the Electoral Commission no longer independent. twitter.com/MarinaPurkiss/status/1518134220400508930?t=OF5RDdydCcexdtPCMxQSXw&s=19

WTF? Shock

Thanks for the heads up.

I'd somehow missed that amid all the other chaos. (Itself an indictment.)

The Daily Wail's spade is clanging on the bottom as they try to reach a new low.

Did make me wonder what they were trying to distract us from. But at this point, that's so much wrong with Johnson's government it could be almost anything.

I totally agree, I used to be a Labour supporter myself but this is a worldwide issue at the moment.
America is having real issues, as is Australia.
Sajid Javid looks to be making positive steps as does Nadine Dorries.

This is the intellectual level of Tory supporters 😁

GreenLunchBox · 24/04/2022 23:05

The Tories have succeeded in passing their motion to making the Electoral commission under their control while people look the other way

They distracted us with this Angela Rayner' stuff

This government is disgusting and this country is finished

The people get what they vote for

Crikeyalmighty · 24/04/2022 23:06

@GreenLunchBox I totally agree-it's a bloody obsession with some.

My son is very well in with many who work at Westminster. They are convinced this issue is being pushed by rather clever PR who know that it's an issue labour could be seen to be a bit 'weak' on - and this 'what's a woman' agenda will actually annoy many women. It's not an agenda labour are themselves pushing-- it's being pushed to the fore by Torys and those that hate Starmer on the far left- because at the moment they don't have much other negative stuff to play on around him.

Sunflower987 · 24/04/2022 23:16

@GreenLunchBox I agreed with the poster, then stated what is happening..
Not sure how that makes me thick, I mean I am ACTUALLY capable of having a discussion with people rather than just insulting them...😀

This sounds entirely plausible. Labour are choosing not to put this to be thought aren't they? This will actually be (relatively) easily done (in my head anyway). Starmer needs to go as he's lost all trust and credibility. New leader who publicaly states that TWANW and offers unreserved apology for the misogyny which Rosie Duffield was exposed to. Why won't they take a pro-woman position and stop disenfranchising so many of the electorate?

PerkingFaintly · 24/04/2022 23:38

I've just seen that this story was not anonymous, it was by Glen Owen, the Mail on Sunday political editor.

Johnson's tweet states: “As much as I disagree with Angela Rayner on almost every political issue I respect her as a parliamentarian and deplore the misogyny directed at her anonymously today.”

Dorries' matching tweet also says "anonymously".

Does that mean the pair of them DO NOT deplore the Wail's misogyny?

Only that of anonymous commenters?

It was hardly an off the cuff comment, given they repeated each other so closely. And after all, Boris is a man with "Oxford Union debating training," so can surely construct a sentence in the English language which says what he means to say...

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/04/2022 23:42

If there was an alternative, I'd take it.

There are a number of alternatives. No ballot in this country contains just 2 names. If you feel disenfranchised by the main political parties, use the upcoming Council Elections to vote for an Independent.

Independents will never be in power and for me I need to vote to keep labour out until they change their anti-women stance so I don't see that as an alternative.

TooBigForMyBoots · 25/04/2022 00:19

Its Local Council, not Westminster election. A good independent local councillor can be worth their weight in gold. And it sends a message to all the main parties.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 25/04/2022 00:24

Yes for local council elections. I am predicting that nothing changes before a general election but god I hope I'm wrong.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/04/2022 00:42

A vote for the tories is not a vote for women. Quite the opposite.

I do wonder if those saying they are voting tory for the women would be voting tory anyway. Saves them embarrassment of admitting they vote for a party that demonises and mistreats women. I know you will answer 'well at least Boris knows what a woman is'....
Yep, this

To think the article about Angela Raynor demean all women.

Definitely this. The current Tories are pros at distraction politics and more so than Angela Rayner crossing her legs.

Although this type of BS starts in schools. Both my girls experienced this BS in classes with male and female teachers, who openly claimed that short skirts were a distraction when sat in front of a class looking at girls crossing/uncrossing their legs.

I agree with you 100% up to The people get what they vote for - we don't. Most of us (who bothered to vote) didn't want this shower of shit in charge.

Thatswhyimacat · 24/04/2022 14:47

I'm so glad we will all be able to call ourselves women when the tories screw us, our children and just about everyone else irreparably for generations to the point of causing actual deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. I'm happy that we will be able to say 'women' have had their rights dismantled when our right to protest or express our views is completely removed. My family will keep warm and feed ourselves with dictionaries.

Anyway, the fact that Boris has said something suggests to me he knows it's meant to be an attack on him.

You sum up my feelings perfectly, @Thatswhyimacat .

Tory policies have disproportionately affected women, who are more likely to be in low paid jobs than men, have sole responsibility for children than men, use the NHS more, are more likely to need care in old age than men, etc.

Moonmelodies · 25/04/2022 10:57

Thus any party's policies would disproportionately affect women.

Thatswhyimacat · 25/04/2022 10:59

Exactly @LakieLady

Will women's healthcare improve once our health service is sold off to whichever tory mate started a healthcare company that week?

Will abuse and violence against women be taken seriously with a home secretary who cares more about attacks on inanimate statues?

Will women's rights in the workplace improve under a small state, pro-big business, anti-regulation government?

Will black women be better off with a government that is making blm protests illegal?

I could go on. It seems to me like it goes like this for many:

Political party: we want to do something to make women's lives better
MN: does that include transwomen
PP: yes.
MN: don't want it then

Tories: we want to make all your lives substantially worse
MN: does it include transwomen
Tories: yes, but they aren't women
MN: yay! Vote vote vote.
